How can I set text direction [rtl] on load editor?
According to the docs, this should do it:
CKEDITOR.config.contentsLangDirection in the CKSource manual
Example taken from there:
config.contentsLangDirection = 'rtl';
Another way to do it is directly from your view file, the benefit of using replace() method is that you can use different direction and style for each of your view.
CKEDITOR.replace( 'article_area', {
contentsLangDirection: 'rtl'
} );
By using replace() you can also do other filtering stuff like allowing/disallowing tags and removing buttons from the editor. for a detailed description visit:
http://ckeditor.com/ckeditor_4.1rc/samples/datafiltering.html
If you use CKEditor version 5, the config block is like:
language: {
ui: 'en',
content: 'ar'
}
Where in this example, the editor itself will remain in english (both headings and orientation) and the content will be edited in arabic (therefore right to left).
I chose this example to illustrate that it's possible to use different languages for these two purposes (say if you build a CMS with the text editor and admins want to add arabic or hebrew translations for different site content but interact with the editor itself in english). But you could also set ui: 'ar' in order to mirror the editor itself as well (note that to do this I think you have to bundle in the languages in one of several ways, see the links below for reference).
The support for bidirectional text seems to be good (aka type something in Arabic and then type in english and it automatically switches to left-to-right only while you type in english).

CKEDITOR.replace('editor1', {

just change the ContentsLangDirection="Rtl" inside the CkEditor like below
<CKEditor:CKEditorControl ID="CKEdMainPageDescriptionWebsiteMobileappAr" BasePath="ckeditor/" runat="server" Width="100%" Toolbar="Basic" ContentsLangDirection="Rtl"
ToolbarBasic="|Bold|Italic|Underline|Strike|-|NumberedList|BulletedList|Outdent|Indent|-|JustifyLeft|JustifyCenter|JustifyRight|JustifyBlock|
|Styles|-|Format|-|Font|-|FontSize|
/
|Link|Unlink|-|TextColor|-|Undo|Redo|Cut|Copy|Paste|PasteText|PasteFromWord|"> </CKEditor:CKEditorControl>
As of version 5, the direction can be set by changing language settings. You can see more details here.

I am understanding this better but still not there yet.
I have a notes document with a rich text field. I want to edit it in Xpages, so that the user can enter text for an email that an agent will generate. The idea is that the user should be able to enter styled text, hopefully including pasted graphics, and this is saved to the rich text field in such a way that a later agent can copy that field to the body of an email.
On the form I have checked the field "Store contents as HTML and MIME.
In the Xpage I have bound the CKEditor directly to the field (can bind it to a scope variable if necessary).
The code in my agent is as follows:
Set rtItmFrm = emlDoc.getFirstItem("Body")
Set rtItmTo = New NotesRichTextItem(mail,"Body")
Set rtItmTo = rtItmFrm.Copyitemtodocument(mail,"Body")
Any further suggestions on reading up on MIME/CKEditor etc would also be much appreciated.

I just discovered how to modify the CKEditor in Xpages (the Rich Text Control). I have the full menu and one or two more things turned out. However, I am really puzzled by how it treats HTML. I would like to put a template for a nice HTML email (like a newsletter). Anything even a little complicated it munges and the output is messed up.
I read enough online to understand that it is not supposed to be a HTML editor, but I am really having trouble getting the results I want. I would love to put some basic skeleton HTML in there, but everything but the simplest code doesn't work.
Is there anyway to import HTML and it not get messed up using this editor?
as Per and Stephan said, Have a look at ACF filtering that is 'server side' (This is not related to CKEditor itself, but it is related to XPages).
If you have a look at the inputRichText control you will see 2 properties.
htmlFilter
htmlFilterIn
These properties determine how to filter Html on the way in to your data, and also on the way out.
This can be used to strip styling out, and also to prevent dangerous tags like some bad code here etc.
By Default the htmlFilter is set ACF (Active Content Filtering) if you look at the default rules, you will see it strips things like 'margin' out.
see /properties/acf-config.xml-sample
There is a filter called 'identity' which means don't filter anything, however beware if you use this you are not protected from and maliciously entered html.
You should look into defining your own set of rules for your ACF filter, this way you can choose which elements to remove. There is a section in Mastering XPages book about this.
If you still have any trouble, then there are some settings in CKEditor config which also control ACF (totally separate to XPages server side)
I don't think CKE changes the HTML, it is the writing back to a RT field.
Try and bind your RichText Editor to a scoped variable instead of a RichText field. This way you have access to the raw HTML and can use that to generate a MIME email. You might want to have a look at Mustache for mail merge.
Use this article series as starter how to prepare CK editor to make this possible.
And as Per mentioned: check the filtering.
Is there a way to add a tag to the format dropdown that would wrap the text in tags?
Editing config.js as follows causes a runtime error:
config.format_tags = 'small;p;h1;h2;h3;pre';
probably because is not block level?
The reason of the runtime error is, that js can not find CKEDITOR.config.format_small.
You have to do two things:
Search for CKEDITOR.config.format_h6 in ckeditor.js and add CKEDITOR.config.format_small={element:"small"};. Then the error is gone, but you can not see the entry yet.
open the languagefile you want (e.g. en.js) and add "tag_small":"small text".
now CKEditor supports the small tag.
This works for me, I hope it works for you too.
If I want to add a custom section tag to format tags, this work for me:
1. Go to config.js, add
config.format_tags = 'h1;h2;h3;h4;h5;h6;section';
config.format_section = { element : 'section' };
2. Then open the languagefile you want (e.g. en.js) -> lang/en.js
search for "tag_pre":"Formatted", and add "tag_section":"Section".
If you're looking to wrap text in a certain tag, you can also achieve this with the Style dropdown as well.
First, configure your editor to allow styles at /admin/config/content/formats/manage/full_html. Replace full_html with whatever editor version you want to modify
Drag the Styles button to the active toolbar if it isn't already there
Add items to "Styles Dropdown" tab under CKEditor plugin settings
Each option takes the form css_selector | Human Visible Name so in your case, you'd add small.my_element_class | Super Special Small or something similar.
Instructions abbreviated from this post: https://www.axelerant.com/resources/team-blog/drupal-8-custom-styles-in-ckeditor
In an Xpage running on Domino 9.0.1 I'm using a rich text control with some custom toolbar configuration using the control's "attr" property as it is described here: https://frostillic.us/f.nsf/posts/quick-and-dirty-ckeditor-toolbar-setup-for-xpages
I added the link toolbar template using
<xp:this.attrs>
<xp:attr name="toolbar">
<xp:this.value>[["Link", "Unlink", "Anchor"]]</xp:this.value>
</xp:attr>
</xp:this.attrs>
All three buttons are displayed fine, esp. I'm able to define an anchor link target.
But trying to reference the anchor target I find that the Link dialog is somewhat incomplete as I can't define my link to use a relative target on the same page. I tried entering a reference in the dialog's URL field as #myAnchorId, but that results in a link looking like this:
....
Here's an image of the dialog that pops up from my Xpage when I hit the "URL link" button:
And this is what the dialog looks like that I can test from the CKEditor Samples page:
I'm aware that the samples page uses CKEditor V 4, so the dialog is somewhat different, but even V 3.6 should be able to reference anchor links using the dialog.
I already looked up on the installed ckeditor's version; \DominoData\domino\html\ckeditor\version.txt says:
cke_version=3.6.6.2
cke_revision=20130606-1534
Question is: what's missing here? Do I have to somehow modify the dialog?
Oh my, finally got it to work; #IBM: this feature truly could use some proper documentation! I'll mark this answer as a community wiki.
Indeed a different dialog is used here, which btw appears to apply to all the dialogs in use with Domino's CKEditor implementation. The trick in my case is to use one of the custom toolbar items instead of the standard one; up to now I found three of those customized items:
use MenuLink instead of the standard Link item; this item
consists of two sub items ('URL Link' and 'Anchor Link'), each calling its own dialog version; the resulting toolbar definition then looks like this: ['MenuLink', 'Unlink', 'Anchor']
use MenuPaste instead of the standard Paste item; again, this
item consists of two sub items ('Paste' and 'Paste as text'), again
each calling its own dialog version
use LotusSpellChecker to add IBM's own spell checking feature, where CKE's standard spell checker isn't working
I found hints to those three custom items inside my local \DominoData\domino\html\ckeditor\config.js. Don't know if those are all custom items available to day.
EDIT:
IBM's Domino Designer Xpages User Guide mentions another means of customizing the toolbar; the section unfortunately is incorrect in describing the options for the toolbarType attribute: be aware that all named types must start with capital letters, e.g. Basic, Slim, Medium, Large, Full, while the also mentioned Lite type isn't working at all; mistyping or using a non-existing value results in the editor not being displayed at all.
The link dialog that you're using is not the default one, so you should check how to modify it or replace it with the default one.
I am using TinyMCE as editor on my Joomla website and I have a problem with the maximum font size.
When I insert some text into the TinyMCE editor I can change the font size but the maximum size seems to be: t (36pt), why?
I need to insert larger text into my pages. What can I do to fix?
Tnx
Andrea
There are many ways you could tackle this, but I would try one of these first:
You can change the dropdown font options using the theme_advanced_font_sizes option, in general, it is something like this:
tinyMCE.init({
...
theme_advanced_font_sizes : "10px,12px,14px,16px,24px"
});
For more info on this, look here.
Now, since you're using Joomla, you can try to pass your parameters in an array to the display editor call, like is explained in the official joomla documentation (keep in mind that you need to check this is one of the adjustable parameters) or you could also try to change the setting for the editor you're interested in by adding some javascript to a specific view, but I'm not sure it'll work. It should be something like: tinymce.get('editor_id').settings.theme_advanced_font_sizes="10px,12px,14px,16px,24px";.
Depending on what you want to do, you could also try using tinyMce indepently or duplicating the plugin with your own tweaks, so that it doesn't get overwritten when you update your site.
Don't do anything at all. You can control the appearance of any block by inserting css code directly, just use the code view.
I am Using CKEditor in my application where the users can write blogs, create pages etc..,
Source mode is disabled for the editor. Writing xml in the editor's text area is not retained after saving the content. I clearly see that the content got HTML Encoded and the same is supplied as input to the CKEditor's textarea.
Works as designed. Whatever you enter into the WYSIWYG area, will get HTML encoded. How would you want to behave it differently?
If you want a text editor for writing XML, maybe the answers to this question are useful: Textarea that can do syntax highlighting on the fly?
I too want CKEditor to support XML tags, but I understand that you can't just type them into the main window - anything typed here is assumed to be actual content, not tagging, and therefore gets encoded.
What I'd like to do is define a list of styles that cause a tag of my choosing to be used, e.g. if the user chooses the 'example' style, CKEDitor does <x>content</x>. Unfortunately I haven't had much success with this, despite hacking the dtd.js file.
My current solution is to define a list of styles but map them to a standard HTML tag, then put my desired XML tag name in as an attribute. I'll then need to write some XSLT that transforms the data later.
CKEDITOR.stylesSet.add('myStyles',
[{
name: 'Example sentence',
element: 'span',
attributes: {'class': 'example', 'data-xmlTag': 'x'}
}];
config.stylesSet = 'myStyles';
element specifies a standard HTML tag – I use if I want the XML to be inline and
if I want it to be block level. The data-xmlTag attribute says what XML tag I actually wanted to use (x in this case). The class allows me to define some styles in CSS and means I can group several XML tags under one class name. To define some CSS:
config.contentsCss = CKEDITOR.basePath+'tagStyles.css';
