How to share visual studio boomarks between developers? - visual-studio

I've recently stumbled across the ability to use boomarks in Visual Studio. (http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/42973/Using-Bookmark-in-Visual-Studio.aspx)
As far as I've googled, I've found out that the bookmarks are stored in the .suo file of the project, that holds userspecific information is that therefore not stored in sourcecontrol.
I'm guessing maybe someone found a way around it or created an addin for this purpose. So how can I share bookmarks between developers?

Bookmarks are poorly supported in Visual Studio extensibility interfaces. There is no way to enumerate them. Only Clear/Set/Next/PreviousBookmark methods are available. Not good enough to do what you want to do.

Quickly open/switch Visual Studio Solutions

Does anyone know about a plugin (or built-in) functionality for quickly switching Visual Studio Solutions?
I'm working in a multi-solution project and need to switch the solution quite often (by reusing one of the open Visual Studio instances)
Any ideas?
If not, how hard would it be to write a plugin on my own?

Sync Extensions in Visual Studio 2013 between multiple machines

I'm sure this is a common problem, but I can't find much info about it.
Problem
I have a work computer, a home computer, a surface, and maybe some Azure VMs that i'd like my visual studio 2013 extensions synced across them. I seem to have to refresh/wipe a computer fairly often, and re-installing all the extensions I like to use is sort of a pain. I initally thought the new VS Profiles would do this, but apparently they only sync themes/general settings.
Attempted/Outdated Solutions
There used to be an extenstion that apparently did this
Extension Sync
But that looks like it's only for VS 2010. There was also a blog post that showed the location that the extensions were saved in.
http://www.larswilhelmsen.com/2012/01/08/syncing-visual-studio-extensions-and-settings-with-dropbox/
Which looked like a perfect solution, except in 2013/2013 the extensions location must have changed, and I cannot find them.
Question
Does anyone know how I could sync my extensions across multiple machines? Or possibly know the location that the Extensions are stored in and if it's possible to change that location to something like Dropbox/Skydrive/Google Drive?
If you've upgraded to Visual Studio 2015 there's a new extension that Microsoft just released for it called the Roaming Extension Manager.
It sounds like this is what you are looking for.
https://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/7b421a95-c32c-4433-a2be-a41b276013ab?SRC=Home
There's something called the "User State Migration Tool" that is intended for preserving state in corporate PC desktop deployments for wipe-and-load, similar to your Azure scenario.
If you know something about the way the extension settings are saved (as shown in the blog), it's not too hard to construct an XML descriptor and use the deployment tool to apply the settings. The tool is command line so it is easily automated.

This solution has increasing value when you have more than just Visual Studio to migrate into your VM.
there is new Extention for Visual Studio 2022 there which allow to import/export

Is there a "Favourites" section or equivalent in Visual Studio to facilitate the location of regularly opened files?

Someone asked the question "I have a Visual Studio solution with many projects; how can I organise them so I can easily find the projects I work most on?" ( Favorite projects in big solution in Visual Studio
)
My question is similar: I have a (C++) project with many files across many filters and it's cumbersome to locate certain files that I use a lot. Is there a favourites or equivalent that I can reference these oft opened files so that finding them is a breeze?
Your help is much appreciated!
--Edit--
BTW I'm using VS2008 at work and VS2010 at home.
You didn't mention what version of VS you're using, but this add-in looks promising for 2005 and 2008.
Or there's this one for 2010!

Extending the extension manager

I want to extend the extension manager in Visual Studio 2010. I'd rather know if that is at all possible before I get into it, but am unable to find anything about it.
All the extensibility options I've read about mention nothing about being able to actually change the function of an existing VS2010 tool like the extension manager.
I'd appreciate any relevant links.
There are no supported interfaces for extending the Extension Manager in Visual Studio 2010.
What specifically did you have in mind though? Perhaps there's some other way you can accomplish what you're trying to do...

Visual Studio 2008 Plug-in / Add-in development - Getting Started

In relation to this stackoverflow question, how would I go about creating my own Visual Studio 2008 plug-in?
I've checked the Visual Studio Developer Centre on MSDN, but the amount of info is overwhelming. There are loads of project types, and I don't even know where to start.
Where should I start looking if I want to write something which meets the following requirements:
A plug-in that runs like a "service" in Visual Studio, and is able to poll Visual Studio for information, and handle Visual Studio events.
The info I'd like to access from VS are things like, what projects are currently open, who has them open, and other solution/project file based info.
The events I'd like to be able to handle are things like, the opening/closing/editing/creating/deleting of Solutions / Projects / individual files.
I'd also like to be able to handle any interaction with VS on a per solution basis. So, I'd like to handle any interaction with files, even code editing, but also, just other interaction, like with the menus, or just the IDE itself.
As well as these, I'd also like to be able to store data somewhere. Where is this usually done? Can I add Metadata to the Solution file? Or, does it make sense to save this info to a small local instance of a database, that is somehow attached to the solution..?
I just need a push in the right direction, is any of this possible? What part of the Visual Studio Developer Centre should I focus on? What APIs should I check out?
cheers!
An add-in can do most of that. There's a template in VS2008 for creating a base add-in.
I have an add-in that you can download that hooks into the solution/project load events etc - it is free and comes with source code ( http://www.huagati.com/projectloader/download/huagatiprojectloader.zip ). This particular add-in detects when projects/solutions are loaded and pre-loads referenced assemblies to work around a CLR bug that can cause VS2008 to crash. Anyway, the source code for it shows how to detect some of the events you're looking for.
Other than that, the definitive resource on add-in development and all the little quirks and tricks involved is Carlos Quintero's blog ( http://msmvps.com/blogs/carlosq/ ) and the "howto" article series on his website ( http://www.mztools.com/resources_vsnet_addins.aspx ).
Craig Skibo's blog ( http://blogs.msdn.com/craigskibo/ ) also has some useful tips.
