In one of my new codeigniter project, one of my colleague wrote a helper method array_to_object so that he can call the variables in views as $row->field instead of $row['field'].
I thought codeigniter default behaviour allows us to retrieve data from database in $row->field (as object). Can anyone pls enlight me data flow in codeigniter?
Codeigniter supports both an array and an object oriented style to retrieve data from DB so both of these styles are equal(from the user guide):
oop style
$query = $this->db->query('SELECT name, title, email FROM my_table');
foreach ($query->result() as $row)
{
echo $row->title;
echo $row->name;
echo $row->email;
}
array style
$query = $this->db->query('SELECT name, title, email FROM my_table');
foreach ($query->result_array() as $row)

The order of the views change wen i make a call to a database. In this case i make a Formulari.php that is a Controller.

I am trying to simply iterate though a result set in laravel on the controller side. This is what I tried but I get the following error:
Cannot use object of type stdClass as array
Controller snippet:

You need to use it as an object:
$result = DB::select($query);
foreach($result as $r){
echo $r->email;
}
Or if for some reason you want to use it as array, you need to convert it first:
$result = DB::select($query)->toArray();
foreach($result as $r){
echo $r['email'];
}
After pulling data from database you can convert it to array but it is optional, it's depends on your necessity then you can simply use the foreach to loop through to each distinct object and get access their property
$data = DB:: table('categories')
->where('parent_id', $request->value)
->get()->toArray();
$output = '<option value="">Select '.ucfirst($request->dependent).'</option>';
foreach($data as $row){
$output.= '<option value="'.$row->id.'">'.$row->title.'</option>';

The Laravel Collection class supports the standard methods for iterables: map, sort, filter etc. see: vendor/laravel/framework/src/Illuminate/Collections/Collection.php
if you're querying on a model:
$results = MyAwesomeModel::where('something' '=' 'other')->get();
//this is valid
$results->map(function($result) {
echo $result->field;
});
//this is also valid
for($i = 0; $i < sizeof($results); $i++){
echo $results[$i]->field;
}
I would suggest avoiding ->toArray() on hydrated results (instances of models) because you loose all the model properties.

Change this:
echo "<pre>"; print_r($result);exit;
To this:
echo "<pre>"; print_r($result); echo "</pre>";
Basically remove the exit. Exit aborts the script.
You should never have a good reason to call the model from the view. Model data should be passed to the controller, to then pass to the view.
Since this is MVC (Model View Controller) you shouldn't call a model from a view.
You should be calling the Model inside the controller then passing to the view as an argument.

I'm writing a Joomla 2.5 component that I had been developing in Joomla 1.7. I have been using code like this:
$user = JFactory::getUser();
$groups = $user->get('groups');
The $groups array would contain a list of ids with the group name as the index. Joomla 2.5 seems to have scrapped this functionality. I have been unable to find out how to get the group names without directly querying the database. Is there any method for getting a list of the groups a user is a member of without having to resort to querying the database?
The code I generated below gets the names of all the groups the user is a part of and stores them in the variable $groupNames separated by line breaks:

This will print all the user group names to the screen. The user group names are the "keys" of the array $user->groups.
