I've been experiencing a problem with Virtualbox on my Fedora 13.
When I try to setup virtual machine instance with Windows it just hangs the system with no reaction on keyboard commands with no respond to anything except physical halting. Please help what might be the problem?

which version of the virtualbox are you using, is the latest. Also you could try to re-install the software it may help you. One thing that usually helps is to delete the disk image file that you create for the image or use a different iso file to install your windows iamge.
Try one of those solutions, can't say what is the specific problem with your description

I have installed debian 9.3 on HP DL20 Gen9. When Debian 9.3 start, what happen is that the screen of the system appear like on the picture after the grub goes. any help?
Try booting your computer up in safe mode from Grub. Install updates and restart.
If it happens again you probably need to configure your graphics card for your installation.
Re-install Debian 9, when in the Software selection menu,
don't enable Debian Desktop Environment. If you need a desktop environment, simply enable certain Desktop environments.
In this case, I'm using Cinnamon. Until now there are no problems.
Thanks.
I find a solution. I used "nomodeset on the boot", and the screen appear normaly. I have used another tty2 and i get connected with the shell.
nano /etc/default/grub
i find this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet"
and i have changed it to this:
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet nomodeset"
I have a dell inspiron 5559 and i used to have a dual boot windows 10 and ubuntu 16.0.4.
After an update of windows 10 i got many problems like my graphic card driver didnt get auto-update and my cpu fan got some problem
After changing my fan windows would enter an automatic repair and before even starting it... it would jump into blue screen and enter a restart loop while my linux would work just fine
I tried installing or repairing windows but before the page for chosing language blue screen apears again and system jumps out of installation
I started a system diagnose and ram memmory test but there wasnt any error.
So i thought maybe its grub menu or linux's problem and i used rm rf root in ubuntu (that was a foolish mistake im really sad about this now) after that still i cant install or repair windows. and when i turn on my pc an error apears
//
Error: file '/boot/grub/i386-pc/normal.mod' not found.
Entering rescue mod...
Grub rescue>
//
I tried different windows dvd's for installation all had same problem. And i tried installing or trying ubuntu or kali live using an usb but various errors show up like bootmgr is missing or....
Can anyone help?
Sorry if my text had some english problems :)))
May be formatting the entire hard drive then install Windows or Ubuntu would work for you.
I ran into an error after installing VMware Fusion on my mac, that it couldn't find /dev/vmmon. After some digging, I've learned that there are only so many available character devices, and that other software I have has consumed them.
Since I actively use Viscosity and Virtualbox (for the time being), the only other one that I could find I had was Intel HAXM driver.
Instructions online suggest to run a script to uninstall it, however that script did not exist on my laptop.
I unloaded the driver with the command:
sudo kextunload -b com.intel.kext.intelhaxm
I wanted to determine if there is anything else I need to do, will this driver attempt to reload during boot?
Thanks!
The Intel HAXM docs show that as of 2018, there is an uninstall script:
sudo /Library/Extensions/intelhaxm.kext/Contents/Resources/uninstall.sh
I had the same issue, Tim Potter's solution fixed my issue ,
sudo kextunload -b com.intel.kext.intelhaxm
Thanks
Cannot find /dev/vmmon (VMware Fusion 8.5.1 on macOS 10.12.1)
I had the same problem.
After a lot of trial and error, and helpful support from VMware I got it to work by
Create another user on the mac
log in as that new user
start fusion
create a new virtual machine (custom, windows7, no actual OS installation)
If machine starts, then vmmon is restored correctly
switch back to your normal user, start fusion and your existing vm
I have not investigated WHY this works, and VMware-support couldnĀ“t tell me either. For now - I do not care. It works, and I can run my vms again.
I'm having some problems with my graphics cards driver and I hoped you guys could help me out. I mispurposeadly changed the x.org's driver to a propietary one and ended with my computer falling apart with the login loop problem, typical of Thrusty Thar. However, I managed via console to purge the fglrx driver using sudo apt-get purge and managed to access the desktop graphically. After that none of the usb ports or sd slot worked, nor did the graphics card, only the ethernet port, so I upgraded Ubuntu Thrusty Thar to Utopical Unicornwith the hope it would fix the driver's problem. It didn't. Can you help me find a solution to my problem?
In the worst case scenario, you can reinstall Ubuntu. This should fix your issue.
Alternatively, you can upgrade to the latest Ubuntu 16.04 LTS version and that should have some bug fixes that solve your problem.
I recommend using the open source driver that is already installed and in use when you first install Ubuntu. Only change the open source driver to a proprietary one if there are graphical glitches or other problems with your graphics. I have never had problems with the open source graphics drivers.
Finally, make sure that you install all the available software updates since they may fix some issues too.
I've been using ArcGIS 10.1 on my MacBook Pro (2011 model) via Boot Camp for a few months. A few days ago, I just installed Parallels 9 in order to use ArcGIS and my Mac programs at the same time and I've run into an issue with the license needing to be repaired. When I try to open ArcMap via Parallels, I get an error message saying something to the effect of "the license is in need of repair". When I installed Parallels 9, I chose to import my Boot Camp so I didn't have to reinstall anything. My guess is that ArcGIS thinks Parallels is a different computer and that's why the license is failing? Any ideas on how to resolve this issue? I can get a hold of another ArcGIS license so if it's a matter of using another license, I should be ok. Thanks.
You can not use ArcGIS on Bootcamp and VM with the same license key (single use license! - concurrenct use license with separat license server of course no problem). The license key is generated with some internal ids of your computer (eg ethernet MAC and other - you can match the ethernet MAC id in Parallels but thats not enough). You have to chose where you want to work with ArcGIS: bootcamp or VM (before licensing). Thats really annoying...
I had the same issue. Extremely annoying since it is without a doubt impossible to run both your BootCamp and VM versions at the same time. I never resolved it with traditional fixer.
If you are a student (hopefully you are) usually the person/department in charge of license distribution understand the need for both (rasters can be very sluggish on the VM side, but not always) when you are really putting the machine to the test.
SO, that is how i ultimately "solved" the issue. However, I believe the route issue to be the MAC address authentication, as I am experiencing the same problem in ArcGIS 10.2 when I tried to copy my VM from my MBP optical drive to my MBP sad - none of my tools are working.
When I first loaded the copied VM (by opening the VM file directly, not through Parallels) I was prompted if I wanted to use the same "......" (can't remember the actual term, but something along the lines of MAC id, or network address, etc.). Unfortunately I said no make a new one - WRONG ANSWER.
I'm trying to get it sorted now - just saved VM file, completely wiped Parallels, reboot, reinstall; and now I'm on the message boards trying to get this install right) [helpful ideal VM settings for ArcGIS specifically: http://maps.uky.edu/support/docs/BP_ArcGIS_on_Macv5.pdf ).
All that being said the first time I had this issue (month of nightmares, and late GIS homework) I had imported my VM from Bootcamp, which seems logical, but at that time (Parallels 8 and ArcGIS 10) it was still a license error I was receiving, but for some unremembered reason I was convinced it was because the VM calls its hard drive the "C" drive which it clearly is not - parallels merely translates this virtual C drive between the 2 OSs and their respective boot drives.
( I have not tried this next part yet) it might be worth trying to install your VM on the Mac side and then use the Windows or Parallels Migration Tool to create a Win migration file and then go to your BootCamp side (IMPORTANT - DEACTIVATE YOUR ESRI LICENSE BEFORE UNINSTALLING ARCGIS - if you don't do then you'll be mired in the "this license has reached its maximum allowable installations" or whatever they say).
If your Bootcamp side still has your ArcGIS, deactivate, then uninstall that version. Then try to import your migration file, but I've lost some of my Windows skills since switching to Mac, so I would do some research on that part. In theory since, your VM version was pointing to (for all intents and purposes) your "C" drive on the Mac side, hopefully the BootCamp install won't get as tripped up by the double installs as the VM did.
Just a thought, I realize as I finish this that you posted in October, so likely you've moved on, but if any of what I said is wrong, or if you found the best way to have it all, I would really appreciate your response.
