XCode - I cannot seem to remove files from a project - xcode

When i highlight a file and choose Edit->delete nothing happens.
What is going on. This is in the XCode IDE for Max OS

Try right clicking (two fingers, or cmd click) the file and selecting delete. It may be that edit>delete only works for code editing.

Xcode 12 - Project Navigator width is stuck/locked, can't resize

Every so often the project navigator/left panel is stuck at a fixed width. This is very annoying when I have extensions in separate files named MainViewController+<Extension name>, because the <Extension name> is truncated.
PhotoSlide... what???
Pressing the "Hide or show the Navigator" button doesn't do anything either.
Quitting Xcode and restarting works. But this takes time, and I lose my place. Is there any other way to fix the stuck width problem?
Please follow these steps if you don't want to reopen the Xcode everytime:
Right-click (or control-click) on any file
Select Open in New Window
And ta-da! You can now resize the project navigator freely!
Instead of opening a new window, just use a tab:
Open a new tab (⌘+T)
Close the old one
This also annoyed me....finally I clicked around and found the show/hide navigator icon on the very top left next to the os icons and clicked it...after that it could resize.
it is to the left of the play button fyi.
I have had success by re-sizing the entire Xcode window - make it smaller then larger and the navigator becomes resizable again.
Sad to say it, but restarting Xcode worked for me..
Here is another workaround. When the navigator gets stuck or locked, click on the "Debug" navigator (or View > Navigators > Debug menu item). Voilà, you now should have the ability to resize.
NOTE: You may have to do this a couple times by selecting another navigator or two and then re-selecting the debug navigator.
UPDATE: This doesn't work reliably. #Senseful has the best solution so far.

Xcode hidden feature

Many times I have seen this screen in Xcode. However, I don't know how to reproduce this or use this feature.
It happens when you do SHIFT+ALT+CLICK on a file in the project navigator.
When this panel appears, you can click on the boxes or on the "+" to open the file in a different view.

Xcode doesn't open a project normally

I'm using Xcode 4.1 and it has always worked perfectly but today something wrong has happened. Instead of opening my project as it usually does it opens just code editor and nothing else. I have restarted my computer but it doesn't help. Other projects are opened normally. Can you give me a hint about what's going on and what should i do to fix it?
View --> Show Toolbar ,
View --> Show Assistant Editor ,
View --> Show Project navigator
and so on.
The solution, as others wrote before, is to reopen the missing panes and toolbar via the menu.
The cause of the problem is simple: If you open a source file in its own window (by double clicking it in the navigator or so) it just shows the editor pane. if you then close the main project window and the single source window afterwards, Xcode saves that last window state as the current view configuration in the project.
The intermediate solution is to never close the project window before closing all other source windows. But Apple should really fix this stupid bug. It has been around for too long.
Go to
View --> Show Toolbar.
I've had this before, don't know how it happened, but this fixed it.

Multiple editor windows in Xcode

When coding in Xcode, I double-click a file in the "Groups and files" list, and it opens a new editor window. I have several of these open at once.
Until today.
Today, when I double-click a file in the list, it opens the file in the last editor window I was using, meaning I can only have one editor window up at any one time.
I guess I've switched some option somewhere by mistake. How do I get it back to the way I like it?
I'm using Xcode 3.2.5
In the top right of the editing window is an icon that says "grouped", perhaps you clicked on it by accident.
Click on it so it says "ungrouped", and you'll be back to opening multiple windows.
perhaps preferences>General>Open Counterpart in same Editor

Editor doesn't open in Xcode

i have a weird problem with Xcode. Here's a screenshot:
When i usually clicked on the file in the left column it'd open in source code editor on the right. Now it doesn't happen. Does anyone know how to get it back the way it was before? it drives me crazy
greetings

What happens if you click on the Project, test, at the top, and then click in the columns on the right. Will it open the file in the editor?
Quit Xcode and relaunch it.
I see this is a little old now, but I had the same problem. The thing that I had to do was to open the "interface builder" program, wich is the editor for the file, then find and open the .xib file from that program. Next time I tried open it with Xcode it worked.
Drag a source file from the Groups and Files pane (usually on the left) over into the pane that says "No Editor". No need to reset the defaults.
