I'm trying to customize code window (Editor context menu | Code window) context menu in my VS 2010 Ultimate and there is no elements for edit there http://habreffect.ru/files/56f/cc371d8a9/Capture.png (In real context menu all the elements are exists, also elements are exists for most other menus in customize window) and VS crashes when i'm trying to add new menu
I have tried to reset all the menus in the customize window but this trouble appears again in a few days. This problem appears on both my PC and my laptop.
I suggest you send Microsoft a bug-report, at Microsoft Connect.

I recently applied an update to Visual Studio Community 2022 (64-bit).
Current Version is 17.3.4
We still use Web Deploy for some legacy asp.net sites and the Web Publish Activity window is very useful for switching between dev and production environments.
After a recent Visual Studio upgrade I noticed that the Web Publish Activity window was not visible, so I reopened it via View -> Other Windows... and it appeared as expected in the lower window, as a new tab along with Output and Error List.
But after closing my project and reopening it, the Web Publish Activity window is missing again. I tested other windows like PowerShell and Bookmark Window and they ARE maintained after closing and reopening VS.
I also tried saving a new window layout with the Web Publish Activity window open and then reapplying that layout after a VS restart but that had no affect.
It is very annoying to have to go though multiple levels of the View menu to reopen this window every time I open this project.
Does anyone have any advice on how to keep this window locked/pinned?
Is Microsoft trying to "encourage" me to stop using this window?
If there is another way to quickly change between publish profiles that would be acceptable as well, but I cannot find one.
Thank you.
This may be a bug with this particular window (the fact that it doesn't stay pinned after closing Visual Studio that is).
Perhaps as a decent workaround you can at least assign a keyboard shortcut to open this window:
Go to Options → Environment → Keyboard
Filter down to "View.WebPublishAcitvity" or find it in the list
Create a keyboard shortcut of your liking by typing it in the circled red box and then click the Assign button:
After doing that, you should be able to use that shortcut to open the window much faster at least.
I've been using Visual Studio since further back then I can remember. Over the years, each new release saw a trend of an ever-growing number of options added to the right-click context menu in the Solution Explorer. 99% of the time I use only 5% of these context menu options. I would like to know if it is possible to remove items from the context menu?
For example:
Open Visual Studio->Create a Solution->Add a project to it->Find the project in the Solution Explorer->Right click on the project->Observe a large number of right-click-menu options.
I'm currently using Visual Studio 2019 CE with a C# build environment.
You can delete items from the project context menu going to Tools - Customize - Commands - Context menu - Project and Solution Context Menus | Project:
I'm maintainig an old MFC application with Visual Studio 2013. Building the application works fine, but I'm unable to use the dialog editor.
When I open a dialog from the resource view, it displays correctly, I can click on the existing items, view their properties, move them etc.
But when I open the toolbox via the View-Toolbox command (Ctrl+Alt+X), all I get is an empty toolbox as displayed below:
Right click on the toolbar and "Reset Toolbox" doesn't change anything
Right click and then "Show all" shows an impressive list of tools, among those there is the Dialog Editor, but all items are inactive as shown in the picture below:
On the other hand when I create a new MFC project from scratch, the toolbox containing the dialog items works fine.
Does anybody have an idea what could be wrong?
FYI: in the meantime I use Visual Studio 6 (yes) for editing the resources.
There are two typical work arounds to get the toolbox back in Visual Studio. One is to reset the toolbox as you've tried. The other is to delete the “.tbd” files in your corresponding C:\Users\xxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\VisualStudio\12.0 folder.
We are working with TFS. Are there any plugins for Visual Studio 2012/2013 allow to create Work Items from code editor?
It's quiet annoying to get through several menus to create a work item.
You can customize the menu bar shortcuts for this so can have quick access directly from the IDE:
Right click the menu bar area in Visual Studio and check Work Item Tracking
Customize the menus and toolbars to add shortcuts to your favorite work item types.
I'm creating an Add-In for Visual Studio 2010.
I want to add the context menu item to the tab during Add-In loading
(in OnConnect method of the Add-In):
I do know how to add the menus using CommandBars.
I already added commands into "Tools" and "Solution Explorer" menus.
I just cannot find the CommandBar responsible for the menu, I need.
Can anybody help me?
Solution found.
You can enable logging of chosen menus.
