single server installation of Dynamics CRM - dynamics-crm

i want to create a single server VM installation of MS Dynamics CRM.
Can anyone point me to a tutorial or walkthrough on this?
thanks

There is a single server VM installation created by Microsoft. I am sure you can find it online. The problem is that it is extremely slow and very very large.
If you just want to play with Dynamics CRM, I have had better luck using Sun's Virtual Box and building an Active Directory box, and then building a second box with CRM, and the DB.

Good question - I often wondered myself, found this procedure, and plan to try it today:

I will post my results later. Please let me know your experience.

Visio 2016 - Creating a Site Map

I've used Visio for many years now and having just installed Visio 2016 Professional, I tried to create a sitemap in the normal way but couldn't find the option to specify a URL/address to use - the wizard isn't automatically invoked, etc. It's definitely the "Professional" edition so the option should be available unless Microsoft have "streamlined" the product still further.
Does anyone know how to access/enable this feature or if it's even included any more?
The online help is utterly useless and I can only find one relevant article via Google which, unfortunately, doesn't provide a solution.
Thanks for looking :)
For anyone with the same issue, downloading and installing the Visio 2016 SDK was the solution. Now, when I select "Web Site Map", under "Software", the wizard automatically runs and I'm able to enter a URL and generate a sitemap.

Siebel Open UI Environment

I am looking for a quick and easy way to setup Siebel Open UI so that I can test it out before implementing it in my company's environment. We are currently using 8.1.1.5 and are interested in upgrading to 8.1.1.9. We have heard that Siebel Open UI will allow you to use the CRM in Google chrome and other browsers. We also heard there is more freedom to change the UI and that we don't have to stick with the SWSE templates.
Here is the link for Oracle Siebel VM. This will give you a Siebel 8.1.1 version which you will have to upgrade to the latest available IP. (8.1.1.10 is the latest available as on this date)
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/vm/siebel-092480.html
Look at Bloomspire. They can easily set up Siebel environments including 8.1.1.9. They are a lot cheaper than Oracle's cloud solution.
How about using the VM oracle provides?
VM sounds like a good idea, but i too couldn't find those on delivery. Oracle now has cumulative 8.1.1.9 installation, meaning you only need to install it once, and it will have OpenUI. Unfortunately, OpenUI is still work in progress, so you need to apply a lot of HotFixes to make it work properly. Unfortunately , Oracle doesn't provide any way to apply them un-attended, so there is no way around some manual patching.
We've just been through an internal upgrade for OpenUI, and now running 8.1.1.10
Seems that the jump from .9 to .10 is a major hurdle..
If you are still in need of assistance, feel free to contact me.

MS CRM 2011 deployment Automation tool

I am looking to automate the deployment process for CRM between different Environments eg.Development Env, Test Env and UAT.
I am wondering if there is existing tools(s) available on market to automate the deployment for me?
If NO, Is it possible to automate the CRM deployment between different environments and what is the best practics for doing that?
Thanks
Where I work we are currently working with the exact same issue. I spend quite some time initially looking for of-the-shelves products that could help us, but I have not found anything promising. Therefore we have undertaken the task ourselves.
Some guys from Microsoft made a short "whitepaper" on the subject which I found quite helpful. It can be found here at Deploying Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2011 and CRM Online Solutions from Development through Test and Production Environments.
I will not claim that we are using "best" practices, but we have chosen to try and script everything in PowerShell or through .net based CmdLets in our own PS-module. CRM server comes with a PowerShell snap-in that sports some basic functionality for creating/removing organizations, but you are more or less on your own when it comes to actually "deploying" CRM-customization, configuration data, users etc.
It would be interesting to know, which approach you choose (if any)? And if you have any specific question, please don't hesitate to ask!
How about this?
The xRM CI Framework is a set of tools that allows you to quickly and easily implement Continuous Integration for your Dynamics CRM solutions.
PowerShell and the XRMCI framework will serve you well for solution deployments, the downside being that for Standing or configuration data that cant be added to a solution (or for solution items that are currently buggy in CRM 2015 e.g. Case Creation Rules, SLA Items etc.). In this case, my client and I have created powershell C# CmdLets that use the SDK and API to create standing data such as Users, Teams, Memberships, Queue's, Case Creation Rules (although its unsupported, the API does allow it), and to configure mailboxes etc.
So in combination, the XRMCI framework, C#, and PowerShell can be used to automate a deployment of one environment to the next. The key is to take it slow, manually execute the scripts to begin with and build trust in the process, tweak and add more elements. Once that trust is achieved, move onto integrating it with TFS in as a CI/CD process.
As for best practice, my own research suggests that this is still a "he/she who dares" area with no real "best practice", in time the players such as Chef, Puppet, Octopus and Microsoft (with DSC) will contribute, but for now....

SharePoint - Developing on a standalone machine without sharepoint server

I want to start learning SharePoint and I need my system setup.
I know I need a SharePoint server, whether on a physical server or a virtual machine. I have done this in the past for the company I worked for. But now I want to use my system to develop but the requirements doesn't meet the SharePoint server specification
I have seen this link and several others on serverfault and they always recommend the Virtual Machine approach
Where is the Location of Microsoft.Sharepoint.dll
I have also obtain a link to Microsoft Hyper-V pre-installed virtual machine but it's too heavy for my machine.
I have read article that says I should download dlls from a SharePoint server and paste in a replica directory structure on my system
http://www.techerator.com/2011/02/how-to-perform-sharepoint-development-on-a-client-workstation/
I see that a lot of developer are faced with this challenge and I wish to know if there is now a workaround. Also, what are the limitations?
Do yourself a big favor and upgrade your development box so that it can handle a VM with SharePoint. Hardware is cheap these days, and a SharePoint capable laptop doesn't break the bank.
The amount of time you spend on trying to come up with a working Gaffa tape solution will soon fall apart again when you need to debug something in a real life scenario. That time is then wasted and you wish you had gone for a proper setup instead.
Check out CloudShare. It is worth the price. There is a 14 day trial.

Dynamics CRM Provisioning Options

Our business is looking to automating Dynamics CRM hosting. We've been looking at the options. At the moment, it seems like HMC/MPS would be useful. However, from the looks of it, the frameworks are nearing end of life and are also. HMC/MPS also seems to be based around exchange. Would it make sense to use HMC/MPS to provision CRM or is there another framework. Would we be better off talking directly with the Active Directory and CRM Deployment Service APIs?
I work for EMS-Cortex and this is what we do. Please have a look at our website www.ems-cortex.com and if you are interested get in touch.
Please remember HMC/MPS has been cancelled, and if you invest in it now you are investing in technology which will have disappeared in about 12 months.
Kind Regards
Daniel Thurston
