Cannot compile code using Intel Cilk - visual-studio-2010

I use Intel Parallel Studio XE 2011 .It says it supports Cilk.When I include a cilk_for statement in the code it does not compile.It says symbol undefined.I have included the cilk.h at the beginning of my code and also under include directories I put the location of cilk.h (C:\Program Files (x86)\Intel\ComposerXE-2011\compiler\include\cilk).Can someone tell me what am I missing? How can i successfully compile my code.

My guess is that you are not picking up the cilk header correctly. Try using the cilk keywords (_Cilk_spawn, _Cilk_sync, and _Cilk_for) instead and see if that works without the header. If it does, at least you know that the Cilk stuff in the compiler is working and it is the header. Then try using "#include <cilk/cilk.h>" and using cilk_for to see if it picks up the header correctly. You shouldn't have to be specifying the location of the cilk.h file yourself if everything is set up correctly. Are you doing this on the command line or using Microsoft's Visual Studio? If you are using MS VS are you sure that you are specifying to use the Intel compiler?

mingw32 posix threading library

I have installed MinGW on my windows7 machine, using instructions from here. Basically I used the GUI installer assistant called mingw-get-setup.exe. The installation manager allowed me to select a package called mingw32-libpthreadgc which installs bin/pthreadGC2.dll and bin/pthreadGCE2.dll.
To my knowledge that is not sufficient to compile code depending on the pthread library. E.g. trying to compile a file with a header-include like #include "pthread.h" - to no surprise - results in a "file not found" compile error. I can't find that header in my MinGW directory. If I use includes/headers from elsewhere, I'm afraid they might not match with the DLL's interface. How is this meant to be working?
(Furthermore I like to use CodeBlocks as the IDE. How would I set up a simple "HelloWorld"-like pthread program to get it all to work? There seems to be a lot of conflicting messages out there on how to set it up. Use "-pthread" vs "-lpthread". Set it in compiler and linker settings, right? Copy-paste the DLL's? What else???)

How to compile opencv 245 with visual studio 2010 and openCL support?

I have much trouble compiling OpenCV 245 with GPU support. With some effort I managed to have cuda support up and running, but now I am stuck on opencl, here is the problem:
At some point during the compilation, the file kernels.cpp is generated, containing all kernel functions as strings. For what I understand, they are converted automatically from the .cl files with the cl2cpp.cmake script.
What I don't understand is that one file is excluded from the build: nonfree_surf.cl (which is on my disk, alongside all other .cl files) is not included, either in the visual studio project, or in the kernels.cpp that is automatically generated. This leads to an undefined error at link time.
I have tried manually adding the nonfree_surf.cl to the visual studio project. This does not change anything. In the CMakeLists.txt for ocl module, all the cl files seem to be automatically added with the line:
file(GLOB CL_FILES "${CMAKE_CURRENT_SOURCE_DIR}/src/kernels/*.cl")
I have tried manually adding nonfree_surf to CL_FILES, with no effect.
I have very little knowledge of CMake, hence I don't understand well what is going on. Can somebody give me a clue how I could find the reason of this behavior, namely:
Why are all .cl files added to my VS project, except nonfree_surf.cl ?
How can I correct this ?
Maybe I can execute cl2cpp.cmake script manually ? If so, how ?
Managed it by manually running the script:
cmake -DOUTPUT_PATH=c:/opencv/kernels2.cpp -DCL_DIR:PATH=c:/opencv/modules/ocl/src/kernels -P "c:\opencv\modules\ocl\cl2cpp.cmake"
For some reason (probably the same that makes nonfree_surf not be processed), not every necessary function are processed this way, so I juste copy-pasted the nonfree_surf string into kernels.cpp, and proceeded with the build.
If anyone needs the binaries, since they are a pain to compile, here they are:
Opencv 2.4.5 binaries compiled with VS2010 x86 (WIN32) including ocl and gpu library.

I have installed WxWidgets, but PgAdmin cannot see it

There was a similar question (here or on some related SE site), but I didn't find so I ask a new question (if you find it, send a link and vote to close this question if they are too similar).
I have finished installing WxWidgets (configure; make; make install), but while installing PgAdmin III 1.16 the make console doesn't recognize WxWidgets as installed. I found that absence of Unicode might be a problem in this case, but I have enabled the Unicode. What else should I do?
I have 32bit Windows XP and WxWidgets 2.9.4. Including PostgreSQL 9.1.3 went OK.
EDIT: I tried another way - through Visual Studio and Visual C++. I don't know if my problem is the same or just similar, but Visual Studio reports this error:
error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'wx/wxprec.h': No such file or directory
followed by 100 of other errors which seem to be conclusion of this one (mostly undefined types/functions with names beginning with "wx"). I added semicolons to the header (as was suggested here - fourth entry after "all replies"), but it didn't help. I also tried to add "include" and "lib" directories in WxWidgets to include path for every project, but no joy here.
Do anybody know how to solve it?
You need to point pgAdmin to wxWidgets installation under Windows. Its build instruction should explain how to do it but you must set up the include path (-I compiler option) and the libraries path (-L linker option) for it to compile and link properly.
Notice that for the include paths you must put the directory containing the wx/setup.h file generated during the build by configure first and the directory with all the rest of wx headers later.
Also, it probably goes without saying, but you must use the same compiler to build both wxWidgets and pgAdmin, so if you built wx using configure+make you can't use MSVC for pgAdmin.

Compiling libexif as static lib with Visual Studio 2010 - then linking from Visual C++ project

Is it possible to compile libexif with Visual Studio 2010? I have been trying to do so and have been running into a whole slew of problems. I cannot find any information about whether anybody has successfully done this before. I know I can use MinGW to compile the library, but I am in a situation where I need it to be compiled with Visual Studio and then need to link to it from a Visual C++ app. Is this possible?
To answer your question: Yes it is possible... but it is a bit of a hack. Libexif uses functions that MSVC has chosen not to implement. See my working example VS2010 project below (if you don't like downloading files then skip to my explanation of what needed changing to get it to work below):

To elaborate, the issues that needed a "hack" (as hinted in the LibExif readme-win32.txt documentation) are:
Libexif uses inline in several places which is not defined in VS for C, only C++ (see this)
Libexif uses snprintf extensively in the code which is not defined in VS (see here)
You need to create the config.h yourself without a ./configure command to help you. You could read through the script but most of it doesn't make sense for Windows VS2010.
You will need to define GETTEXT_PACKAGE because it's probably setup in the configure file. I just choose UTF-8, whether that is correct or not I'm not sure.
There was a random unsigned static * that needed to be moved from a .c file to the .h file as C in VS doesn't allow you to create new variables inside functions in the particular way they were trying to do.
Read the "readme-win32.txt" file. Advice is:
hack yourself a build system somehow. This seems to be the Windows way of doing things.
Don't get your hopes up. The *nix way of doing things is the configuration script that needs to be run first. It auto-generates source files to marry the library to the specific flavor of *nix. The configuration script is almost half a megabyte. Three times as much code as in the actual .c files :) You cannot reasonably get that working without MinGW so you can execute the script. Once you got that done, you've got a better shot at it with a VS solution. As long as it doesn't use too much C99 specific syntax.

Cmake add_library with boost source files introduces references to non-existant files

we're building a cross-platform utility which must have a small footprint. We've been pulling header files from boost as and when we need them but now we must link against some boost C++ thread code. The easiest immediate solution was to create our own custom library using CMake's "add_library" command to create a static library composed of some boost thread source files. These compile without any problems.
The difficulty arises when I try to link to this library from an executable. Visual Studio 2008 returns an error saying that it cannot link to "libboost_thread-vc90-mt-sgd-1_40.lib". What really puzzles me is that I've grepped through all the source code and CMake config files and I can't find any reference to this libboost library, leading me to think that this has been autogenerated in some way.
This works OK in Linux, can anyone point out why I'm experiencing these issues in Windows?

You found the correct reason for your problem, but not the correct solution. The BOOST_AUTO_LINK_NOMANGLE is an internal, i.e. for library authors, definition to control the auto-linking. The user level definition is BOOST_ALL_NO_LIB which when defined disables the auto-linking feature for all Boost Libraries code you use. This is described in the user.hpp configuration header (see user.hpp near the bottom and the Boost Config documentation). You can also control this on a per library level as describe in that header.
Ok, well, it turns out that Boost uses this auto-link feature for Visual Studio which embeds references to a mangled (ie, platform-compiler-mult-threaded, etc) boost library name.
The header file which controls this is called "auto_link.hpp" which lives in the config directory of the boost include tree. There's a special preprocessor definition called "BOOST_AUTO_LINK_NOMANGLE" which toggles this behaviour.
Another triumph of mediocrity for Microsoft.
