WinApi -> How to create a ComboBox (without resources) - winapi

Can anyone tell me how to create a ComboBox with a DropDownList (like the C# ComboBox Control with DropDownStyle = DropDownList) without resources and without MFC? I googled around 20 minutes but all codessamples I found created strange Controls for me (for example a plain area with a checkbox which cant be checked...). My code looks like this:

You have to call CreateWindow() again, specifying lpClassName = combobox and dwStyle = CBS_DROPDOWNLIST.
You can edit its content by sending messages to it, using SendMessage()

Why Windows is not giving me a window the size I asked?

I'm trying to create a window with the client size the same as the display resolution (1366 x 768).
For this, I'm using AdjustWindowRectEx to get the calculated width and height of the window to be created.
The first red circle in the top right is the actual display resolution that I want the client size of the window to have.
The second red circle is the width and height that AdjustWindowRectEx calculated the window to be created with (client size + borders and title bar).
The last red circle in the bottom is the actual client size that I got after the window has been created.
The height is not what I ask Windows to give me. I asked 768 and I got 749.
Is there some limit height the window can be created with? No matter how much I ask the height to be, it never give me more than 749.

In CreateWindow(), WM_GETMINMAXINFO information will be sent to confirm the size of the current form can be generated, you can refer to MINMAXINFO to view its specific structure. If the size of the created form is larger than its default setting, it will be overwritten by the default size. So it will be smaller than the size you set when it is created.
According to the WM_GETMINMAXINFO:
An application can override the defaults by setting the members of MINMAXINFO, and return zero if an application processes this message.

Use function GetSystemMetrics(...).
This function calculate size(resolution) of screen.

How to paint over white line between menu bar and client area of window?

I tried to color customize menu items (pure WinAPI). But there is a line in the menu bar which does not draw with MenuInfo.hbrBack color. If the mouse cursor hover above items a part of this line is redrawn. But if I resize the window the line will return. And in the area of menu bar where no items the line drawn constantly. How can I draw over this annoying line?

It seems to be part of the non-client area of the window. If that's the case then to paint there you need to handle WM_NCPAINT.
It is a single pixel line above the window's client area, so for example if I add the following code to your program I can paint it in red.

Now an issue with the above code is that it is over-painting the rectangle after the default non-client painting is done. In theory this could flicker; in practice I don't notice a flicker. If it did flicker, however, a safer way to do this would be to modify the WPARAM you pass to DefWindowProc(hWnd, WM_NCPAINT, ... ) such that it is the handle to a region that is the region passed to WM_NCPAINT minus the rectangle you want to paint. This doesnt seem necessary to me, for whatever reason.
If you are using themes / visual styles, which pretty much everything is nowadays, you can't override a lot of the menu styling without using a workaround like https://github.com/adzm/win32-custom-menubar-aero-theme which also uses the same approach to get rid of the white line. Note that you will need to handle this in WM_NCPAINT and WM_NCACTIVATE.

How to create a window in secondary monitor in win10 app

I am very new to the win10 dev, and I am trying to create a win10 app which will create a floating window in all the monitors the system is connected to. So far I am successful in using GDI API to create window in my primary monitor, but it is not working on my secondary monitor, I cannot get why it is not working even when I am using the API as mentioned in the microsoft page.

EnumDisplayDevices is the wrong API for this job. You need to use EnumDisplayMonitors which gives you the monitor coordinates directly.
You need to retreive the bounding rectangle for the desired monitor within the virtual screen, and then you can position a window within that rectangle as desired. Use EnumDisplayMonitors() to get the rectangle of each moinitor. Or, if you have an HMONITOR handle to a specific monitor, you can use GetMonitorInfo().

Drawing a window with a standard frame and transparent contents

For xtow, I want to draw a top-level window with the standard non-client area and the client area filled with a bitmap which has an alpha channel.
I now discover the way I have implemented this works on Windows 7, but doesn't render correctly on Windows 8.1, leaving behind images of the window contents when it is moved or maximized.
To investigate, I made a simple test program alpha-test, which
Uses DwmEnableBlurBehindWindow() to set a non-intersecting blur region, so that alpha values in the window are honoured, without blur.

Is this really broken? How can I fix my code? Is this a Windows bug/limitation?
Is there another way to achieve my goal of drawing a bitmap with alpha into a window with a border?
Update:
I did some tests using Direct2D and Direct3D to fill the client area with the
bitmaps, but they mis-rendered in the same way.
The DWM doesn't do blurring any more (this feature was deemed too power hungry and was removed in Windows 8), so I'd guess that it's not properly compositing the background area of your window any more - and therefore you aren't getting the "automatic" alpha effect it was giving you in Windows 7.
This is kind of an unusual way to draw transparent windows to be honest. Using UpdateLayeredWindow is the "official" way and would have the benefit of working on Windows 8 as well as Windows 7.

FillRect won't draw anything

Your code is fine. The problem is that you have
rect.left = 0 and rect.right = 0 and the rect.top and rect.bottom are also the same. So your rect is 0 size.
Try this
rect.left = 0;
rect.right = 100;
rect.top = 0;
rect.bottom = 100;
