Windows Phone 7 UserExtenedProperties opinion… - windows-phone-7

I was thinking of a way to some how connect my phone user base to my site user base. Right now if an item gets added to the site via the phone the userId is generic and the site displays it as SmartPhoneUser. I was thinking it might be cool to display the unique phone id by using the UserExtenedProperties, however, after reading Nick Harris's blog about it I'm thinking it may not be a good idea as I don't want users to think I'm up to anything nefarious.
So I'm wondering if there are any suggestions out there on how to accomplish this task. Right now my site uses the JanRain module that allows multiple logins from other sites (Facebook, Yahoo, Google etc.). I'm letting users log in to their own accounts and using the information from those sites to populate my user table. I'm not sure if WP7 has something similar I can use.
Any thoughts on how I can accomplish what I want to do without using the ExtendedProperties?

We can accomplish something similar by creating a unique guid/DateTimeStamp KEY the first time the app launches and stored it in Isolated storage.
Reusing the same KEY by reading it from Isolated Storage should work.
[N.B. : Anybody with other ideas please do suggest/comment/contribute. Tx.]

Should my customer register Google reCaptcha, or should I do it for my customer?

An Customer ask me to implement it at his Webpage, because he don't have the technical Skills to do so.
I wonder, what's the right way to do this.
On other Google-Services (like Google Search Console) the User can sign into his account and grant me permissions as Guest (he invite me as guest to his account and gave me permissions).
This is a clean way to do, because If I stop working for this customer, he can easily remove the permissions of my login and all is fine.
But how does it work at Google ReCaptcha?
Looking forward to hear, how you solve this.
it better to use the user's credentials for this purpose, just take client's primary or secondary email (or create a email for the project) and make it base for everything that's needed for your project like recatcha, search-console etc. you can use it as long as you are working, and client can simply change n give the credentials to next developer and he can continue.
i am web developer and i face this situation many times, this is best solution in my opinion.

Is there a way to change a Google Account name/email?

I have ran into a problematic situation, which I really hope I can get help with.
I'm working on Jive Software solutions and we have a product that integrates Google Drive and Gmail.
This integration product was once part of a startup that was acquired by Jive and as such, the Google api project we are using for the integration belongs to a Google Account of a specific person which no longer works in Jive (we do have the credentials for the account though).
The problem is, that we want this account to be ours, i.e, a Jive software one.
So, one option I have, is to create a new account and replace the api account I'm using in the code to use the new one. This is bad, as it will break all the current authenticated clients, and will force them to take the oauth process all over again.
The other option I see, is to convert the existing Google account we are using to a jivesoftware one, so it will not be associated to any specific person but it will still be the same account.
Specifically I'm interesting in changing the Name and Email of this account.
Any suggestions of how we can achieve that?
A third option could be moving the api project to owned by another google account, but I couldn't find such an option in the UI, any clue?
There is no way to change a gmail address. You can forward all email to a new address with the name and email address you would like though.
This way you access all the email from an account that is a Jive software one but it is being forwarded from the old one still. However no one directly accesses the old one.
Check out https://support.google.com/mail/answer/10957?hl=en for more info.
According to the documentation, if you use Gmail with your Google Account, it's not currently possible to change your Gmail username after you've registered. with your username being the full email address you used to create your account. You can, however, change your nick name by going to https://myaccount.google.com and clicking Personal Info.

Windows Phone 8.1 user ID

I have a problem with getting User ID but I mean programmatically. Is any chance to get User's Live ID or something like that ? Because I want use trial experience with expiration time but is only one way how to do this. Storing all user's ID's and after installation check their identity. I don't want to use advertisement ID because it is not working in every case. Not every user is using this kind of ID.
So any ideas ?
You won't get any personal information without asking the user.
But the windows store features a trial mode with expiration. Check out the topic on MSDN.
Otherwise there is an overview on Idendity on Windows and you can use WebAuthenticationBroker on the Phone.

ASP.NET Membership - Is Switching the Application Name in the Web.Config a good idea?

I came up with an interesting way to solve the following problem and I want to know if there is a better way to achieve my objectives.
Basically, I'm creating a basic cms system users can register for their own microsite and have their own users. I'm using the asp.net membership api.
I wanted a way to isolate users of the various microsites from eachother so that a user authenticated with www.mysite.com/johns-site wouldn't also be authenticated with www.mysite.com/pauls-site.
I also wanted a way to associate a username with a microsite so that if a user is registered as bob on one site, it doesn't stop another user registering as bob for a different microsite.
To achieve this, I noticed that in the asp membership tables a user belongs to an application. Every time I receive a request, I have a method that switches the applicationName in the web.config based on the url.
This does meet my objectives in an easy way but feels a bit hacky. Is there an alternative way to switch applications for the membership provider?
It is possible to get/set the ApplicatioName property at run time however according to the below MSDN post it is not recommended as the property is not thread safe i.e. if multiple users are creating accounts for different applications at the same time it may not correctly allocate the ApplicationName per user.
Syntax:
Membership.ApplicationName = "MyAppName"
OR
Membership.ApplicationName = "MyAppName";
Further reading:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.security.membership.applicationname.aspx
Note:
You are updating the contents of the web.config file from the application code? If so this is most certainly "hacky". Plus editing the web.config will drop any active sessions (if your app uses session state of course).
I agree, it is a hack that will likely make you pay at some point.
The proper way to accomplish this would involve each virtual directory (or microsite as you say) each defining a <membership> element with the same connection string but different applicationName attribute.

Updating App with Web Information

Hey everyone, I am sorry if this question has already been asked/answered
But I have a Cocoa program that has different arrays of models. Each model hold just Strings and one Image. Archiving and Loading works great.
Each model represents a web account, that is, it holds the username and password, and some other information related to the website. Moving forward I would like to be able to update information in each model by accessing the information from the website. For example updating a balance ($). I am wondering if there is a way to do that programatically that is:
Automatically log into web account using the entered username, pass, and website url
Update the balance based on the information following log in.
Thanks for the help in advance!
Tamara
There is no single approach to log into any arbitrary website. You will need to know what the API for the given website is. If the website provides a web service to query things like balance, then you would connect using that web service (REST-based if at all possible; SOAP is more of a pain in Cocoa), and update your model based on the results. If the website provides no web service, then you would have to scrape through the HTML responses looking for what you want, and this is generally very complex and fragile. There is no general answer to this question; you'd have to know what form the website is in.
On another note, make sure that you are not storing user passwords in unencrypted files. User passwords on Mac should always be stored in Keychain. There are many posts on SO about how to best use Keychain.
Rob, isn't it possible to just look through the login page's html source and see what are the names of the fields for user and pass, and then just send a POST request to that page from code ?
