I am trying to use codeigniter cookies so that i can bookmark some topic , i don't know how to get cookies vale and use it to display bookmarked item in the user browser , it doesn't work when i try to display cokies value using print_r(); please help how to proceed. Thanks
function index(){
$this->load->helper('cookie');
$data['title'] = 'some bookmark';
$cookie = array(
'name' =>'mycookie',
'value' => 'some val',
'expire' => '86500',
'domain' => '.localhost',
'path' => '/',
'prefix' => 'something_'
);
set_cookie($cookie);
$this->load->view('bookmark', $data);
}
Browsers have trouble dealing with localhost (or .localhost) as the domain for cookie storage - they expect a domain to have at least two dots. Try setting the domain to FALSE (or don't set it) while testing.
If that still doesn't work, can you show us how you're retrieving the cookie data?

i have a multi-tenant app and i am trying to add Facebook linking in it i have tried the process using laravel socialite but i have a problem that when i use dynamic redirect url like so
return Socialite::driver('facebook')
->with([
'redirect_uri' => "https://" . $dynamichost . "/social/facebook/callback",
])
->redirect();
or this way
return Socialite::driver('facebook')->redirectUrl('https://' . $dynamichost .
'/social/facebook/callback')->redirect();
facebook returns error url mismatch. Note i also have set a value for redirect_url in .env
then i have services values like this
'facebook' => [
'client_id' => env('FACEBOOK_APP_ID'),
'client_secret' => env('FACEBOOK_APP_SECRET'),
'redirect' => env('CALLBACK_URL_FACEBOOK'),
'default_graph_ve`enter code here`rsion' => 'v3.3',
],
my guess is socialite somehow set the redirect url equal to the value which is coming from .env and when i change it dynamically it still thinks that url will be like the value of .env and i have tested this scenario the request get success response if keep the redirect url static.
Any suggestions how can i overcome this. thanks.
if you want to use custom redirect-uri dynamic :
use Socialite;
use Laravel\Socialite\Two\FacebookProvider;
$socialite = Socialite::buildProvider(
FacebookProvider::class, [
'client_id' => 'your_id',
'client_secret' => 'your_secret',
'redirect' => 'url',
'default_graph_version' => 'v3.3', //not sure if this needed as far as i know, in socialite the version is defined
]
)->redirect();
well it was dumb mistake i had to match the redirect url in callback handling method. its fixed now thanks.
Here is my code to set cookie
$cookie = array(
'name' => 'City',
'value' => $city,
'expire' => 86400 * 30,
'domain' => '.localhost',
'path' => '/',
'prefix' => 'picker_',
);
$this->input->set_cookie($cookie)
and i loading cookie helper in constructor of a controller.
my cookie is set form 1 month and i check in browser my cookie is set name
'City' and value = '10'. the problem is when i retrieve the value i get the blank page nothing is printing
here the code of fetching value
echo $this->input->cookie('picker_City');
i also try var_dump
var_dump($this->input->cookie('City', false));
it return false
what is the error.
You have to load the helper cookie first before using set_cookie
$this->load->helper('cookie');
and then use set_cookie
If you are using cookies very often , its better you load it in the autoload.php in the config folder.
in the autoload array
$autoload['helper'] = array('cookie');
Did you load it?
NOTE:
For local testing, leave the domain value blank.
'domain' => '',
This is my first post in stackoverflow and i'm really excited about that.
Actually i have problems with codeigniter cookie helper.
Take look at my codes:
$this->load->helper('cookie');
$cookie = array(
'name' => $nid,
'value' => 'checked'
);
$this->input->set_cookie($cookie);
echo $this->input->cookie();
// print_r($this->input->cookie();
as you see a declared an array called $cookie, then i set the cookie with that. but it seems that i made a mistake in setting cookies, because , the cookie doesn't set !
the immediate calling $this->input->cookie() returns nothing !
Does any one have any suggestion, where do i misunderstand the cookie helper of CI !?
var_dump() $this->input->set_cookie($cookie); // This returns NULL !
You need to give expiration time also in $cookie array and you are not echoing cookie what have you set. try this code
$this->load->helper('cookie');
$cookie = array(
'name' => $nid,
'value' => 'checked',
'expire' => '86500'
);
$this->input->set_cookie($cookie);
echo $this->input->cookie($nid, TRUE);
I'm trying out cookies for first time in CI. Cant get it to work. Here's my code:
class Site extends CI_Controller {
public function index(){
$this->load->view('input_view');
$this->load->helper('cookie');
$this->test();
}
public function test(){
$cookie = array(
'name' => 'Test',
'value' => 'The Value',
'expire' => '86500',
//'domain' => '.some-domain.com',
'path' => '/',
'prefix' => 'myprefix_',
'secure' => TRUE
);
$this->input->set_cookie($cookie);
var_dump(get_cookie('Test'));
}
var_dump... returns false. I understand it does this the first time but should'nt it be true after reloading the page? I can't see any "Test" cookie in my web tools in Chrome either. Do I need the "domain" row? I googled some and if I understood it was optional? If it isn't, what am i suppose to write there? Localhost? In my config file i have this settings for cookies
$config['cookie_prefix'] = "";
$config['cookie_domain'] = "";
$config['cookie_path'] = "/";
$config['cookie_secure'] = FALSE;
I'm guessing you're not running https for development.
The secure flag on your cookie forces the cookie to be sent over HTTPS only;
Secure:
If this cookie can ONLY be sent over HTTPS (SSL), set this value to true.
Set it to false, and the cookie should work.
I have two cakephp2 applications running on same database, but having different Auth tables and different $this->Auth->userModel values accordingly.
Authentication works well and users from one app can't log into other.
BUT.. as apps uses same CAKEPHP session cookie, this happens:
when user from app 'one' logs in, it can access any Auth protected action in app 'two'!
I will probably use different user roles and cookie names.
But still, why Auth component is ignoring Auth->userModel settings when checking the session? Is there a way to configure it to work right in this situation?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
If not configured otherwise, AuthComponent will write the authenticated user record to the Auth.User session key in CakePHP 2. But it can be changed:
AuthComponent::sessionKey
The session key name where the record of the current user is stored. If unspecified, it will be "Auth.User".
(In CakePHP 1.3 this was different: Auth.{$userModel name})
So, if your apps share a Session, which they do, if cookie name and Security.salt match, the logged in record will be shared.
There are two possibilities to solve this:
Separate the logins
Simply set a different AuthComponent::sessionKey for your two models. This will allow them to keep the logged in user separately
Separate the sessions
Configure different Cookie names and Salts for both apps, so their sessions cannot override each other. This is probably the cleaner solution, because it also covers the risk of other session keys being double-used.
I have a similar issue which is why I've started a bounty on this question. Basically I have a public facing part of the application which lets users login from one table and an administrative part of the application which lets admins login using a different table. My AppController looks something like this:
public $components = array(
'Session',
'Auth' => array(
'autoRedirect' => false,
'authenticate' => array(
'Form' => array(
'userModel' => 'User'
)
),
'loginAction' => array('controller' => 'users', 'action' => 'login'),
'loginRedirect' => array('controller' => 'users', 'action' => 'overview'),
'logoutRedirect' => array('controller' => 'users', 'action' => 'loggedout')
)
);
and I have another AdminController where I have this:
public $components = array(
'Session',
'Auth' => array(
'authenticate' => array(
'CustomForm' => array(
'userModel' => 'Admin'
)
),
'loginAction' => array('controller' => 'admin', 'action' => 'login'),
'loginRedirect' => array('controller' => 'admin', 'action' => 'index'),
'logoutRedirect' => array('controller' => 'home', 'action' => 'index')
)
);
But as mentioned in this question, sessions from the two don't get along and overwrite each other. What's the best way to overcome this?
Extend the Model/Datasource/Session/DatabaseSession.php session handler with something like MyDatabaseSession and overwrite the write and read methods. Maybe simply copy the existing code of both methods and add something like
'app_id' => Configure::read('App.appId')
to the read() conditions and do the same in the write method. And do not forget to add the field to your session database schema and to configure the session to use your handler.
<?php
App::uses('DatabaseSession', 'Model/Datasource/Session');
class ExtendedDatabaseSession extends DatabaseSession {
public function read($id) {
$row = $this->_model->find('first', array(
'conditions' => array(
'app_id' => Configure::read('App.appId'),
$this->_model->primaryKey => $id)));
if (empty($row[$this->_model->alias]['data'])) {
return false;
}
return $row[$this->_model->alias]['data'];
}
public function write($id, $data) {
if (!$id) {
return false;
}
$expires = time() + $this->_timeout;
$record = compact('id', 'data', 'expires');
$record[$this->_model->primaryKey] = $id;
$record['app_id'] = Configure::read('App.appId');
return $this->_model->save($record);
}
}
I do not know your app, so were you write the app id to the config data is up to you, bootstrap or beforeFilter() maybe. You should add it before the session gets initialized I think or you'll need to re-init the session or something. I leave it up to you to look the right point up. :)
