I have both VS2008 and VS2010 installed and then I installed DB2 with the VS Add-ins. Now the Add-ins show up just fine in VS2008 but they do not show up in VS2010.
So, does the DB2 Visual Studio Add-Ins work with VS2010?
Also VS2008 is VS2008 Shell (integrated mode).

Yes, they do work with VS2010. You'll need the latest version: 9.7 fp4 or later i believe. IBM also has a forum for .Net stuff: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/forums/forum.jspa?forumID=467 See the first thread in that forum which announces 2010 support.

I have started to prefer SSDT to SQL Management studio. But suddenly when I needed it I could not find SQL Server Object Explorer in view menu.
Not sure who took it away, I recently pushed update-2 for visual studio.

According to this blog post on MSDN SSDT is now an integrated part of VS:

When I looked at the Extensions and Updatesin VS2013 I had an update available for SQL Server Data Tools and when I clicked it I got a downloadable installer (SSDTsetup.exe) which might be what you are looking for.

I have installed VS2012 Ultimate on a fresh PC. I tried adding the Crystal Reports file in my project but there is no crystal report .crt Item avaliable into Add New Item menu of the VS2012
Is there a version for VS2012? or do I have to install an extra setup file for crystal reports which is redundant since I already have VS2012 installed.

To integrate “SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio” you must run the Install Executable. Running the MSI will not fully integrate Crystal Reports into VS. MSI files by definition are for runtime distribution only.

This post is right from SAP on Sep 20, 2012.
In short, they are still working on a release of Crystal Reports that will support VS2012 (including support for Windows 8) It will come in the form of a service pack release that updates the version currently supporting VS2010. At that time they will drop 2010/2012 from the name and simply call it Crystal Reports Developer.

I would also add that I am currently using Visual Studio 2012. As long as you don't edit existing reports they continue to compile and work fine. Even on Windows 8. When I need to modify a report I can still open the project with VS2010, do my work, save my changes, and then switch back to 2012. It's a little bit of a pain but the ability for VS2010 and VS2012 to co-exist is nice in this regard. I'm also using TFS2012 and so far it hasn't had a problem with me modifying files in 2010 on a "2012" solution.
There is also someone who managed to modify CR for VS.NET 2010 to install on 2012, using MS ORCA in this thread: http://scn.sap.com/thread/3235515 . I couldn't get it to work myself, though.
"SP25 work on Visual Studio 2019" is an exaggeration. It is extremely unreliable and should be avoided at all costs. I currently have to maintain a second development environment with V2015 for report development.
I'm planning to develop an application targetting the Honeywell Dolphin 6100 running Win CE 5.0. The documentation for the platform SDK and device SDK say that VS2005 is required to use them.
I don't have a copy of VS2005 and since it's not sold or supported by MS any more, I'd much rather buy VS2010. Does anyone know if the Honeywell D6X00 SDKs are compatible with VS2010?

You can get access to VS2005 or VS2008 by purchasing VS2010 Pro with a MSDN subscription. You can then download old versions of VS and other stuff from the MSDN site. This is the path I have taken as there is lots of info on the web about how VS2010 does not support Win CE 5.0. If you plan to only write straight C++, you can use embedded visual c++ 4.0 which you can download for free from MS. If you have a lot of UI code, you may want to get VS2005.

Visual Studio 2010 removed support for developing Windows Mobile devices (instead replacing that with support for Windows Phone) - you would need to get hold of Visual Studio 2008 (or 2005, as you mention), which should still be available.
Is Windows Phone 7 Development SDK available for other versions of Visual Studio 2010 than Express?
If I already have the Ultimate version do I still need to download VS2010 Express to use WP7 SDK?
When you install the Windows Phone 7 SDK it installs everything including "Visual Studio 2010 Express for Windows Phone" even if you have another non-express version of Visual Studio 2010 already installed.
If you have another version of VS2010 installed. the installer will NOT create any shortcuts for the express version. Nor will it set any file associations for it.
This has two effects:
The installer is simpler (It just gets everything and only needs logic around setting shortcuts) and so should be less buggy. - Most people have no issues with it. The few who do have problems have mostly fixed them with a repair of the install.
You can use both the Express and other version of VS2010 on the same machine. I find this particularly useful when looking at open source or demo projects which were created with the express version.
The WP7 environment will install into your existing instance of Visual Studio if you have one (and will install an Express edition if you don't)
Yes, you would need to download the full SDK. But nothing to worry since installing the SDK would automatically take care of installing the templates, and you should be able to work with your Ultimate edition with all the goodness :)
Microsoft could verify that the Visual Studio (not Express) is already installed on the machine BEFORE you download the Express version!
Still, the Express version does not interfere with your other version of Visual Studio.

You would need to keep VS2008 installed if you target Windows CE (via Compact Framework, native smart device projects, etc.)

Also if you want to write native applications that run on versions of Windows before XP SP3 and Server 2003 SP2, this is no longer possible with VC++ 2010. The same applies to managed code written for the .NET Framework 4.0, but you can still use Framework 3.5 with VS2010 for projects with managed code only.
And Intellisense for C++/CLI code is gone (MS promises to remedy that in the future, whether a service pack or the next version I cannot say).
If you open a VS 2008 solution or a project in VS 2010 it will be converted to VS 2010 and you will not be able to open it in VS 2008.
If that is not a problem then you don´t have to keep VS 2008, unless you are using a addin or some other third party application with VS 2008 that is not compatible with VS 2010.

VS2010 allows you to specify the target framework that you'd like to develop on. There should be no reason to keep VS2008 installed unless you've become accustom to some handy plugins :)
