Is there a legal way to re-install windows XP without the cd but I have the cd key. I would like to download a legal ISO image but I can't find one. There is no image of windows already installed on my computer by the way.

unless you have a MSDN developer login, you won't be able to find those ISOs "legally" (or directly from Microsoft). Just download one from "disreputable" sources, and install using your CD key. Nothing wrong with that, as long as you don't crack the OS, or are using a stolen key.

Is your CD key not working because it is an OEM key? This is, a key that is locked to a computer you bought. For example: I cant buy a dell, then install windows on another computer with the windows key that came with that machine.

I want to ask, if I format my computer (currently running windows10 genuine) and use some other OS for a while and then again install windows10, will I be able to reactivate my windows with the same key which is working currently on my pc ?
That should work just fine, provided you can install the same version. A key for Home won't work on Pro and vice versa, and there are also OEM versions and Volume License versions, so make sure which exact version you have.
If you have an installation CD or an ISO for the right edition (the one you have the key for) you'll be fine. You can re-install from that CD multiple times.
If Windows came preinstalled, you'd better make an image of the hard drive which you can restore later.

I bouth laptop with pre-installed windows 8.1 a half year ago.
I copied license key and erased the system.
I installed windows 10 and I want to activate it with my key, but it does not accept it.
Is there any way to convert the key?
Because I do not want to install windows 8.1 with my key and then upgrade to windows 10.
You can't do this unfortunately.
You will have to re-install Windows 8.1, then upgrade to Windows 10, then use the Reset Process in Windows 10 for a clean install.
To reset your Windows 10 PC, open the Settings app, select Update & security, select Recovery, and click the “Get started” button under Reset this PC. Select “Remove everything.” This will wipe all your files, so be sure you have backups.

I have been trying to work out how this is possible to very little avail.
I'm on Mac OS X Lion and need to encrypt CD-R for Windows user.
All I want to do is encrypt a folder containing important website files to CD-R so that I can safely send the files via the post on a CD.
truecrypt is a freely-available, cross-platform solution that should work for you. It can be configured to encrypt directories or special block files, that are only accessible with a password.
Presumably you could put the Windows installation files on the CD-ROM as well, in order to make it easier for the recipient to access the data.
Another approach would be using GPG, to encrypt a .zip or .tar.gz file, or even zip itself using AES encryption.

I have a program installed on windows 7 in my laptop. I wish to install the same program on windows 7 in my desktop. unfortunately, I don't have the source file with me anymore. How can I copy the entire program from one machine to another machine and make it run?
It depends on the program if that's possible or not.
You would have to know, which parts the installer copied to your computer and to which directories. Even then it is possible that the installer checked for prerequisites, found them on the laptop, but are missing on the desktop computer.
You can try to copy the files from the %ProgramFiles% directory, but it is poor luck if that works and you can't be sure that it works correctly. So your best option is to organise the installer package again.
see How to Copy a Program From One Computer to Another Without a Startup Disk.I hope it will work.

I am attempting to install Windows XP on my Macbook. I use bootcamp assistant and partion 32GB for windows. I insert the XP disk and I go through the initial blue screen disk formatting screens. After the partion is formatted (side question: which option is correct to choose: NTFS or FAT?) and the files are copied, it claims it will shutdown and continue installation after restarting. The computer boots up the normal way with OSX Leopard. What am I missing? The only choices I'm really given are for partition size and File System. Is there a way to continue setup using a hotkey as it boots? I figured that having the CD in the drive would be what would tell the computer to continue setup. Help?
You have to hold down the Alt button (between Ctrl and Cmd) when the Mac Gong sounds at bootup, and it should present you with OS choices. If not, use the latest version of BootCamp and use the same sequence.
