Below is the Property in my viewModel of Datetime,I want to display only date on the View,
Can any one help me out in formatting this. right Now Im seeing 01/01/2010 12:00:00 AM
public DateTime ModifiedDate
{
get
{
return Region.ModifiedDate;
}
set
{
Region.ModifiedDate = value;
}
}
#Html.TextBoxFor(model => model.ModifiedDate)
Model
[DataType(DataType.Date)]
[DisplayFormat(DataFormatString = "{0:MM/dd/yyy}" )]
public DateTime RecipeDate{ get; set; }
Edit Template
#model DateTime
#Html.TextBox("", string.Format(ViewData.TemplateInfo.FormattedModelValue.ToString(), Model), new { #class = "date" })
EditorFor doesn't allow for custom attributes, you must use a TextBox or TextBoxFor
I created an editor template (located in the Shared\EditorTemplates folder in my solution) that looks like this:
#model System.DateTime?
#Html.TextBox("", Model.HasValue ? Model.Value.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy") : string.Empty, new { #class = "date"})
And then when I want to use it,
#Html.EditorFor(model => model.RecipeDate, new { #class = "date" })
#Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.RecipeDate)
Seems to work pretty well for me.

I want to custom edit filed for KENDO UI grid with date.
I created grid like this:
#(Html.Kendo().Grid<TT.TT.Web.Models.ViewModel.WorkViewModel>()
.Name("gridAdd")
.Columns(columns =>
{
columns.Bound(work =>
work.Date).EditorTemplateName("WorkDate");
})
)
Editor template look like this:
#model DateTime?
#(Html.Kendo().DatePicker()
.Name("WorkDate")
.Value(Model == null ? DateTime.Now.Date : #Model).Format("dd.MM.yyyy")
)
And in TT.TT.Web.Models.ViewModel.WorkViewModel have this property:
[Display(Name = "Datum")]
[DisplayFormat(ApplyFormatInEditMode = true, DataFormatString = "{0:dd.MM.yyyy}")]
public DateTime Date { get; set; }
Everythink works, but when I click to edit date column, the value is always empty. I need to set default value due to value in non edit mode. Thanks!
When i look to DateTime modeli in editor:
#model DateTime?
#Html.Raw(#Model)
The value is always: 01.01.0001 0:00:00 and it should be 11.07.1990
i am very much new to MVC3 and working with MVC3 razor application. I need to validate a textbox on View in such a way that, the textbox will accept only those strings which are starting with characters "PR" and 4th character of that string must be "2". It would be great if anybody helps me. Thanks in advance
Well you need regex. I'm not exactly sure what the regex would be and what your string contains. But if you need to have 2 matches in there, you could split it and use 2 textboxes and join the values on post.
ViewModel:
public class MyViewModel
{
[RegularExpression("^PR[A-Za-z0-9]", ErrorMessage= "Invalid Text1")]
public string MyText1 { get; set; }
[RegularExpression("^2[A-Za-z0-9]", ErrorMessage= "Invalid Text2")]
public string MyText2 { get; set; }
}
Warning, this regex may be faulty. I invite others to edit/post comments and i can update it with correct regex
View:
#model MyProject.Models.MyViewModel
#using (Html.BeginForm())
{
#Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.MyText1)
#Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.MyText2)
<button type="submit">Submit</button>
}
Hope this helps
Model
public class RegisterModel
{
public int ID { get; set; }
[RegularExpression(#"^PR[a-zA-Z0-9]2([a-zA-Z0-9]*)$", ErrorMessage = "Please enter valid Name.")]
[Required(ErrorMessage = "Name is required.")]
public string Name { get; set; }
}
View
#using (Html.BeginForm("DYmanicControllerPage", "Test", FormMethod.Post, new { id = "FrmIndex" }))
{
<div>
#Html.LabelFor(m => m.Name)
#Html.TextBoxFor(m => m.Name)
#Html.ValidationMessageFor(m => m.Name)

I am new to MVC. I am facing problem to get Date of birth value from view into controller by using view model. I am using view model for getting form values and getting all other textboxes values. But I always get null value for date.
My view model is like this.
public class Student
{
[Required(ErrorMessage = "Date of birth is required")]
[DataType(DataType.Date), DisplayFormat(ApplyFormatInEditMode = true,DataFormatString = "{0:dd/MM/yy}",ConvertEmptyStringToNull=false)]
public DateTime? DateOfBirth { get; set; }
}
My controller which is called after form posting is:
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult StudentPersonalReg(Student stud)
{
DateTime? dateofbirth = stud.DateOfBirth;
return RedirectToAction("Registration");
}
My view is
#model eEducation.Models.UserModel.Student
#Html.TextBoxFor(x => x.DateOfBirth)
#Html.ValidationMessageFor(x => x.DateOfBirth)
Problem is that I always get null value for date in controller.
I have also tried setting DateTime.Now to the viewmodel when I am calling the view from controller.
I am not using strongly typed view.
Please help me in this regard.
I am passing my model to view by controller method
public ViewResult Registration()
{
var db = new eEducationEntities();
List<CountryMaster> queryCountry = db.CountryMasters.ToList();
List<StateMaster> queryState = db.StateMasters.ToList();
Student stds = new Student();
stds.Countries = queryCountry;
stds.States = queryState;
stds.DateOfBirth = DateTime.Now;
return View("~/Views/UserSection/StudentRegistration.cshtml", stds);
}
You need to be using a Html.BeginForm() on your view model. You can even specify the controller action it posts back to.
#model eEducation.Models.UserModel.Student
#using (Html.BeginForm("StudentPersonalReg", "ControllerName")) {
#Html.ValidationSummary(true)
#Html.TextBoxFor(x => x.DateOfBirth)
#Html.ValidationMessageFor(x => x.DateOfBirth)
<p>
<input type="submit" value="Submit" />
</p>
}
I have two classes, Vat and Product. Product has a property of IVat. I am trying to use editor templates in MVC to display a dropdown list of all the Vat objects when creating/editing a Product. For the dear life of me I cannot get this working.
I have the following code which displays the dropdown but it does not set the Vat for the Product when the form gets submitted.
Controller:
IList<IVatRate> vatRates = SqlDataRepository.VatRates.Data.GetAllResults();
ViewBag.VatRates = new SelectList(vatRates, "Id", "Description");
Add.cshtml
#Html.EditorFor(model => model.VatRate.Id, "VatSelector", (SelectList)ViewBag.VatRates)
VatSelector.cshtml
#model SelectList
#Html.DropDownList(
String.Empty /* */,
(SelectList)ViewBag.Suppliers,
Model
)
I would be grateful if anyone can shed some light on this or even point me to a good example on the web somewhere...I have been stuck with this for quite a few days now.
I would use strongly typed views and view models as it makes things so much easier rather than ViewBag.
So start with a view model:
public class VatRateViewModel
{
public string SelectedVatRateId { get; set; }
public IEnumerable<IVatRate> Rates { get; set; }
}
then a controller:
public class HomeController: Controller
{
public ActionResult Index()
{
var model = new VatRateViewModel
{
Rates = SqlDataRepository.VatRates.Data.GetAllResults()
};
return View(model);
}
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult Index(VatRateViewModel model)
{
// model.SelectedVatRateId will contain the selected vat rate id
...
}
}
View:
#model VatRateViewModel
#using (Html.BeginForm())
{
#Html.DropDownListFor(
x => x.SelectedVatRateId,
new SelectList(Model.Rates, "Id", "Description")
)
<input type="submit" value="OK" />
}
And if you wanted to use editor template for the VatRateViewModel you could define one in ~/Views/Shared/EditorTemplates/VatRateViewModel.cshtml:
#model VatRateViewModel
#Html.DropDownListFor(
x => x.SelectedVatRateId,
new SelectList(Model.Rates, "Id", "Description")
)
and then whenever somewhere you have a property of type VatRateViewModel you could simply:
#Html.EditorFor(x => x.SomePropertyOfTypeVatRateViewModel)
which would render the corresponding editor template.
this is my Model1 class
namespace chetan.Models
{
public class Model1
{
public string selectedItem { get; set; }
public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> items { get; set; }
}
}
this is my controller class
public class HomeController : Controller
{
private rikuEntities rk = new rikuEntities();
public ActionResult Index()
{
var model = new Model1
{
items = new[]
{
new SelectListItem { Value = "Theory", Text = "Theory" },
new SelectListItem { Value = "Appliance", Text = "Appliance" },
new SelectListItem { Value = "Lab", Text = "Lab" }
}
}; return View(model);
}
public ActionResult viewToController(Model1 m)
{
string getSelectedName = m.selectedItem;
return Content(getSelectedName);
}
}
this is my view...
#using (Html.BeginForm("viewToController", "Home"))
{
#Html.ValidationSummary(true)
<fieldset>
<legend>emp</legend>
<div class="editor-field">
#Html.DropDownListFor(x => x.selectedItem,
new SelectList(Model.items, "Value", "Text"))
</div>
<p>
<input type="submit" value="Create" />
</p>
</fieldset>
}
i want to add a drop downlist and i want to use selected value in viewToController action of homeController. and there is also one error in View page is "an expression tree may not contain dynamic operation" in (x=>x.selectedItem). Please solve my problem .
I don't understnad what you exactly need. You want to dynamicly add items to the drop down from the database?
I'm big fan of jQuery. You can do everything what you want with HTML using jQuery. So if you are looking how to automaticly add items to the drop down, take look at this: How do I add options to a DropDownList using jQuery?
