My customer wants an interesting application. The basic functionality is quote generator. the user writes the best quote he knows, the end result is a nice image of quote. he would like that user can:
- change background color
- change font color
- change font size
- preview function, so the user can see what he made - this can probably be html preview with jquery...
Does anybody knows similar script or see something like this made before? Any tips where i should start? I will defenitly post the code when im done :)
Thank you :)

I have a website that incorporates a logo in to the header. This logo has a background that is the same colour as the background of the header, yet in Firefox the colour is different.
I can find various articles alluding that the 'colour profile' being the culprit, but I cannot find out how to fix this issue.
Quite why anyone would think that changing the colour of an image is the way forward I don't know, but it looks very poor, so I'd be grateful for some suggestions on how to fix this.
To create the original image I used GIMP, and it has been exported as a PNG.
Here is a section of the header so that you can visually see what I mean -
Since you do not provide the original image, I have to make an educated guess:
Your image most likely has a (broken, incorrect) color profile embedded. Fix or remove the color profile and you should be good. See the documentation of your favorite tool on how to do that.
You should use some tool like tweakpng to check if the PNG has a color profile, and remove it.
Ey. I've seen the other post about Lightbox gallery effect for Flex, but after having played around with it I cant seem to get it to work 100% (The image is as small as the thumb, and I cant make it bigger). And this also lacks some functionality I'd like to have.
So, one example would be, of course, this: http://lokeshdhakar.com/projects/lightbox2/
If you click any image on the image set you can swap between them with an arrow. This is what I'd like to have.
Also, it would be nice if it was possible to display the thumbnails for the other images in the same set under the bigger picture(when one image is already clicked).
I've tried to search for components like this, but I cant seem to find any other.
If any of you know of any nice components or snippets of code for this kind of effect then please let me know! =)
Kind regards,
Stian Berg Larsen
EDIT:
So I've searched around and tried a number of examples, but I cant seem to get any of them to work. There is always an error, and none of the examples are exactly what I want.
I simply need a way to show images like Lightbox. With a prev/next arrow and maybe a close button. Nothing more than that. How would I go about making this, or use an existing component?
Im using a TileGroup to hold all my thumbs (so that they will fill out the width of the Group with more images if there are room for it). If it's possible to generate this list of thumbnails dynamically too then that would be great, but basically what I need is to show images with a Lightbox style when I click them.
Thanks! =)
I ended up just making my own lightbox effect. :)
Created an Actionscript class (based on Group) and added image loading functionality, prev/next/close buttons and borders and such. Works like a charm :)
I know the idea is to make the text somehow hard to read for the users but still they complain and I've seen how the control used here in stackoverflow doesn't have the dark circles contrasting with the text in recaptcha.
How can I replicate this?
Thanks.
You can't.
If you want more control over how the CAPTCHAs are generated, you may want to take a look at different library.
In Latex how can you make the background image to occupy the whole sheet on every page except a certain stripe on the inner side of each page? I can't figure it out.
I have a background image I'd like to be seen in whole on each page after printing/binding.

There's some rather scary LaTeX hackery involving putting a picture environment under every page and using \includegraphics to put an image into that environment. You'll have to adjust the size of the image using the width option, and if you want even and odd pages you'll have to check the page number to know whether to shift the image right or left by changing \put(0,0) to \put(3,0) for example.
For page number testing try something on the order of
\ifodd\count0 ...stuff for odd-numbered pages ...
\else ... stuff for even-numbered pages ...
\fi
This isn't really a full answer but will be enough to get you started.
Honestly, I'd just add the white space in the image :)
Well, I was thinking of something like this.
Is this really so rare need to have? I myself need such a thing for the first time now but I don't feel it a so big oddity. It's strange for me that if you want a background to change over even and odd pages, just like normal text do, you need to feel betraying Latex logics. Or maybe I'm too fanatic of this challenge of mine and I want to feel the whole tex world change to fulfill my wishes. :)
Thank you for the answers!
I've been admiring StackOverflow's default quilt-like profile pictures (which I notice are also on the Fail Blog) and am curious what program both are using to generate them.
But what I really want to know is: If you were to design the system to create default profile pictures, how would you do it?
I'm looking for ideas on what algorithm you'd use, as well as things like how you would related the image to the user, be it related to their username, or some portrayal of their progress (ie the image gets more complex, or larger, as they gain reputation).
FWIW, the default pictures are generated by gravatar, which is why you'll see them on more than this site.
It's called an Identicon. On Stackoverflow it Gravatar uses your IP address to generate the image.
This is an editorial, not necessarily an answer.
Those auto-generated avatars on this site come from a service (Gravatar) that focuses exclusively on providing avatars and is therefore the core of their business. For apps that aren't specifically intended to generate and display avatars, I would just go with an empty placeholder (like Facebook). It's a neat feature, but is it worth your development time when a simple placeholder would be just as effective?
A very good source of images would be flame fractals. They are rather computationally expensive, so simply sourcing them from a project like electric sheep or having them be rendered by the user's computer should be considered to offload the work.
Who wouldn't want default profile pictures like these?

Use a Julia set or something like that and set the initial conditions to a hash of the user's email address.
I'd use a jpeg server tool (aspjpg or similar) to manipulate the image on load so it displays their badges within their profile pic.
In fact, using any tool to dynamically generate images is pretty cool. Applying some sort of 3d or flash technology to dynamically create images using random variables for eye spacing or facial structure would be pretty wicked as well.
But ya this is a weird question. hah!
I did something similar years back, I used POV-Ray to generate little 3D scenes with torusses (torii ?) and spheres. There were lots of parameters to tweak such as the position, size and colour of each object.
POV-Ray is a scriptable 3D render engine, you can find it here.
Unfortunately my images all looked too similar to each other. I love Gravatar's identicons as uses on this site. I think the symmetry helps and the shapes are unique enough that you can identify users fairly clearly.
In ruby there have a library http://github.com/swdyh/quilt to generate it!
