I've looked everywhere for a feature like this. I use the Aptana IDE (which is based on Eclipse) for my php development, and I use the outline feature a lot.
I enjoy xcode's 'pragma mark' feature, which lets you group sections of your source code together in the outline view for quick reference. (Described here: http://cocoasamurai.blogspot.com/2006/09/tip-pragma-mark-organizing-your-source.html)
Is there anything like this for Aptana/Eclipse?

The closest I have found is to do one of these two things:
Create a dummy constant, or create a dummy function. Both will create entries in the outline. See screenshot. Personally, I think I like the constant better, because its icon in the outline makes it clear it isn't really a function.

I'm updating some legacy code, because of my unfamiliarity to it, Its very difficult to find structures, especially if I step away for a week for other projects.
To alleviate this problem I've gone back to my old-school roots and started adding ascii text-art as comments above sections of code, using this tool:

This allows me to see via my MiniMap the titles of functions or sections of code I might need to come back to
The Thought then occured.. well surely someone else has this problem, and since VSCode seems to be written by the community, maybe someone has already written a plugin that would search the code for function titles (like Javadocs?) and display the title in a readable size?
If not, would it be easily coded? i.e. is the minimap just a very shrunk down copy(not easy) or is it structured and can be parsed and tweaked?
As long as your language plugin supports it, you can use cmd + shift + o to go to function definition.
All functions should also be listed in the Side Bar under "Outline"
For example, I wanted to have a popover or something that would let me choose from a table (say, like the periodic table, IPA chart, etc.…) in a similar style as a graphical NSDatePicker. In addition, how could I make it select multiple cells at once?
Is there already a default Cocoa way to do so? If not, from what class could such a thing be done and maybe some pointers on from where to proceed?

It is very surprising, but on a lot of points, I think that OSX's GUI is very limited unlike iOS.
So, I'm afraid that you have to create your own component from scratch.

I would like to add Command's to a View's pulldown-menu (the triangle-shaped button in the upper right corner that the "Problems"-View in Eclipse also has).
Can anyone point me in the right direction how to do this declaratively in plugin.xml?
I found a tutorial that used a viewContribution (extension point org.eclipse.ui.viewActions), but unfortunately using this extension point i can only add Action's to this menu.
The functionality i wish is actually quite similar to the Problems-View (Showing Compiler-Errors and -Warnings in Eclipse):
I want to filter records within my View according to an Entry chosen in the pulldown-menu of the View.
For an example configuration you can use the implementation of the Problem View itself. It uses the org.eclipse.ui.menus extension point to contribute that menuItem through a dynamic contributor. You can check the details in the plugin.xml of the org.eclipse.ui.ide plugin. Look for the usage of the class org.eclipse.ui.internal.views.markers.FiltersContribution. In its "getContributionItems()" method it returns menu contributions dynamically each time the menu is to appear. Of course, doing it this way is not exactly declarative. For that try reading the guide at http://help.eclipse.org/indigo/topic/org.eclipse.platform.doc.isv/guide/workbench_cmd_menus.htm (you should use your command instead of the global ones, of course)

Is there a way to get colored checkboxes like in iCal without using custom drawing?
I have looked through the documentation but can only find how to change the background and text color.
You can achieve something at least similar to the colored checkboxes in iCal by enabling Core Animation for the checkbox and adding a "Hue Adjust" (in "Color Adjustment") content filter. If the color is static, this can be done entirely within Interface Builder, no code needed.
Be careful, though, as sometimes enabling Core Animation for various views causes strange bugs (for example, WebViews don't play nice with Core Animation views).
If you want to do it programmatically, take a look at the documentation for CIFilter (that's a link), which you use with the NSView instance method setContentFilters: (also a link).

I'm afraid not. I'm not sure if the AHIG forbids this sort of thing or not, (it probably does), but the reason iCal gets away with it is because, 'Hey! Why not?'. Also, it's an Apple application, so yeah.
It can still be done, of course, but not without custom drawing. Personally, I'd advise against it, and rather see if what you are trying to achieve could be achieved some other way. If not, you could possibly use some of the data files from iCal to build your checkbox. (Unsure of how kosher that would be, but 'Hey! Why not?'.)
I'm trying to create a very simple selection list widget based on NSOutlineView. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out how to display an icon and a label right next to it, which is really the expected behavior in all the mainstream implementations of that kind of widget out there (iTunes, mail, Finder,...).
So far I am just binding two separate cells, but then when I'm expanding the tree, the icon cell grows larger and a gap appears between the icon and its accompanying label. I know I can probably overcome this problem by extending NSCell and provide a custom class, but as what I'm trying to achieve is really the standard thing, I can't be resigned to accept that there isn't a simpler solution.

Sadly, there isn't a 'text and icon' cell that you can just use, fresh out of the box as you would like. However, when I was working on a project, I found that Apple released some sample code that implements this, since it is such a common idiom.
This can be found here, specifically ImageAndTextCell.h/m
It can help teach you about UI customization by reading through this example, but scratching that, just dropping the ImageAndTextCell straight into your project should do just fine.
