Problem
I have created a blank report (mychart.jrxml).I cannot figure out how to add a chart to my blank report in the designer view.
What I have tried
I went into the samples folder under the iReport folder of the installation and opened up one of the samples that has a chart. In that example (charts.jrxml) the chart definition is expanded in the Summary section on the left tree navigation bar.
So I go to my blank (mychart.jrxml) file and try to right click "Summary" to see if I can add any type of component but I cannot.
UPDATE
I have noticed that in the main navigation bar the the Palette menu item under tools is empty.
Does anybody know how? Do I have to get the pay edition to accomplish this?

I'm new and following a tutorial when I misclicked on the "Show the Version Editor" button instead of the Assistant Editor all my graphics I've made in the Main Storyboard is now blank! I can find them in the tree but they are "grey" or "faded", so I can't drag and drop anymore.
I guess it's just a view setting or something but I can't find how to restore it to normal?
Please help, looks like I can't post a screenshot of it since I'm new :(

I fixed it myself! I just had to change the canvas size to what I had before running the Version Editor (for all iPhones) and then all the objects appeared again! If I also disabled Auto Layout I got some objects back, but in wrong locations, so this was better!
how can i find the specific button on design mode where i have several buttons ie: hundered of buttons so that they all like spaghetti and one button may be under another button or a groupbox (i might be playing with the visibilities ) and i want to see my button number 83 on the design. how can i see him? where is he hiding? :) i use visual studio as an IDE. thanks.

Use Document Outline (View - Other Windows - Document Outline)
Just pick the button from the tree and voila.
PS: this works for other types of designers (WPF/Silverlight, ASP.NET)
You can access it via the Properties Window. There is a drop-down that will list all of the items in your form in design mode.
Then use the drop-down. The drop-down will list all of the items on your form so you will scroll through the list to find Button number 83.
Images were pulled from MS Visual Studio: The properties Window which contains an explanation of the window.

In VS2010, I've created an rdlc report that I want to view using the reportviewer. On the report, I want to use a scanned image underneath all the text (since it must look like the agency's letterhead), and this image must take up the whole page. The problem is that the text boxes on the report are all bumped down beneath the image. Can someone help me figure out how to make this work?
Right click the image, select Layout, Send to Back.
I'm doing this in VS 2012 now, but I think it's the same in VS 2010.
Right click the body of your report (in design mode),
Select "Body Properties..." and from there you can specify a Background Image.
You can place text above the image at design time. When ReportViewer display the report, it will look bad, but if you export the report in PDF format will look the same as you wish.
I know my answer does not resolve the problem. After working a lot on the subject, it is all I could get.
I have now tried in VS2013. No change.

To add an action for the button . . .
In Xcode, select the view controller’s nib file (MyViewController.xib).
Display the Assistant editor.
Make sure Assistant displays the view controller’s header file (MyViewController.h).
Control drag from the button in the nib file to the method declaration area in the header file.

EDIT: As of the latest version of Xcode this has changed.
In XCode 6.2 it seems they've changed the icons again. I was having trouble finding it but I didn't realize where the buttons were until the dumb old me trying to pick up iOS thought I was missing a view, so here I am posting this for any passerby who needs some visual confirmation.
To be fair, I was looking for something based of some instructions I had read that referenced the two circles, and it didn't occur to me that two circles meant a split view / assistant editor, and not until after finding this post and figuring it out did I realize a suit was a reference to a butler AKA assistant :D
I'm using the RDLC Report Designer in VS2010 10.0.3 RTM release.
I'm trying to turn on the gridlines in RDLC design view. I can turn on the rulers, but I can't seem to find the option to turn on grid lines.
Anyone know how to do this?
Unfortunately they dropped the grid in the VS2010 report designer and replaced it with simlilar lining up/space between functionality you see in the Form Designer.
In my opinion this was a mistake as there are many times when you want to work on an "absolute" grid as opposed to lining up "relative" to other elements, especially when trying to replcate existing reports.
I realize I'm posting an answer to an old post, but I was also looking how to do the same thing for my SSRS reports and tried:
Tools -> Option -> Windows Forms Designer -> General the Settings by default:
LayoutMode=SnapToLines
ShowGrid=True
SnapToGrid=True
The grid snap worked but no grid showed up.
The next best thing or work-around I found would be to also have the ruler show up so at least I could see where the snapping was taking place.
Next to the zoom dropdown on the designer is a ruler icon. Clicking that toggles the ruler on and off.
Hope this helps others trying to find a solution to the missing grid lines.
Right click on the blank section outside of the report, click View then Ruler.
