I recently launched CodeIgniter based website for someone who wishes to be advertised and linked to by affiliates, in E-newsletters and the like. This type of linking generally attaches tracking code on the end, in the form of querystrings for analytics.
blah.com/?utm_source=MailingList&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Blah+OCt+II
Of course if you hit that, Code Igniter displays an error about disallowed characters in the URL.
It seems that I can get around this by setting this in the config.php:
$config['uri_protocol'] = "AUTO";
This at least stops the error from being displayed. I only need it to be enabled for the homepage so I read online that you can set this in the controller of choice:
parse_str($_SERVER['QUERY_STRING'],$_GET);
I'm assuming that will then let the vars be parsed so the analytics JS code will pick up on it.
Does that all seem safe and logical?
Use the latest version of CodeIgniter, 2.1 has no problems with $_GET at all and 2.0.x should have been fine too.

I am in the process of building a shop on wordpress using woocommerce. All is well except that at checkout there is an endless spinning wheel blocking the payment processing.
I have checked the error logs - which show no errors
I have disabled all plug ins - which makes no difference
I have reverted to the default woocommerce shopfront theme - which has the same result.
The console shows no errors.
I have also followed the instructions here https://docs.woocommerce.com/document/endless-loadingspinner-on-the-checkout-page/ which assumes its a memory limit issue. This did not work.
So, after a bit of digging I found some reference here https://mikejolley.com/2015/11/12/debugging-unexpected-token-in-woocommerce-2-4/ and here https://www.maxsangster.com/blog/woocommerce-endless-loading-spinner-on-checkout/
Referring to these two pages I have been able to see that the json response from /?wc-ajax=checkout is just returning HTML which I would imagine is where the issue is.
However I am running an Apache server rather than Nginx as has been mentioned in some threads and articles. Assuming there is a server misconfiguration of the server or something that needs changing what might that be? Bearing in mind that I do not have direct access to this, so will need to be asking someone else to sort it out for me.
And finally if there is something else I can try what might that be?
Thank you to #plushyObject for generating the spark for this one.
The issue turned out that I had a legacy static html holding page in place as the site's homepage rather than having one set up with wordpress. Simply removing the .html page and letting wordpress's homepage take over solves the problem.
The moral of the story create your holding page in wordpress.
Go to Google Developer Tools, then Go to the Network tab. Click the button and make the request and let that bad boy spin out.
You mentioned the response is returning HTML. Click on the request that goes out that appears to be taking forever (/?wc-ajax=checkout) and then click on the Preview tab to display that HTML. I bet it shows an error or a clue, anyway.
In my case the checkout was working fine on Desktop but not on Mobile. After many search on internet I read the solution of #UntitledGraphic.
I had set a redirect in ht-access. The redirect was showing a different home page for mobile. When I removed it, the error gone. I checked back & forth and was sure the ht-access redirect was the problem.
If you have set any redirect in the Htaccess then remove it. This will solve your issue in this case.
I also checked the redirect code on function.php instead of htaccess again the problem appeared. So finally removed the redirection.
In my own case the redirection was the issue. So I had to delete the redirect I created via Cpanel.
Edit : I don't know if it actually loads from cache, so I can't create the question named "prevent from loading cache".
Problem : Browsers sometimes save my code and keep loading only the code they saved(Maybe it saves in the cache). When this problem occurs, browser is like caching the old code and won't change anything. This is to say, It won't load any new code I updated.
Information: This occurs in HTML, CSS, Javascript on all browsers. I am using Apache in XAMPP as an appserv.
Deleting cache in all browsers won't fix this.
My first way to stop this is to delete the file, refresh browser and replace it.
The second ways is changing the pathname.
After the fix, the problem will occur again at anytime :(, so I would like to know how to prevent this.
Edited: If possible, please explain for newbie because I am very young beginner.
Try adding a variable like current timestamp to each url in its query string.
Just use querystring e.g. http://www.domain.com/style.css?version=1 for first version.
Now you update the stylesheet and you would like to reflact changes to all users browser who have cached version of old stylesheet. for this just change version querystring value to 1.1
e.g. http://www.domain.com/style.css?version=1.1
This works for javascript, css and all other files called in by your html page.
Also for all files like html, css, js, you can eTag header. More information can be found here.

I am using the redirect plugin that is included with Joomla 3.5. It works for regular urls but when there is an older 'missing category' url it fails.
Short of adding my own rewrite rule is there a php code fix for this in index.php?
This is what is happening. Unlike the usual behavior of a no longer existing page, your page is hitting this:
if ($category == false)
{
return JError::raiseError(404, JText::_('JGLOBAL_CATEGORY_NOT_FOUND'));
}
if ($parent == false)
{
return JError::raiseError(404, JText::_('JGLOBAL_CATEGORY_NOT_FOUND'));
}
Which is basically a hard coded 404 found in /libraries/legacy/view/category/.
This is because of this weird aspect of the api where even though it says com_content it doesn't check for the article first, it checks for the category first. I think it's a bug in support of long deprecated url structures and should be fixed to encourage migration, but that's just me, the question is what can you do.
So what you want to do I think is to intercept that before it happens and then allow the normal operation of the plugin. How I would approach that really depends on how many of the urls with this structure you expect to have to support. If it is just a couple, you could hard code. IF it is a lot you could do a plugin really early in the stack and have it update the request to the url that you want by modifying the JInput object. You could possibly do that by copying and then adding to the redirect plugin or by making your own separate system plugin. I haven't looked closely enough at the redirect plugin in recent years to know if you can just modify the error handling there but that would be the place to start.

I am developing a website using Microsoft MVC3, and have built it upon the default MVC3 Application template. It accesses an external database and works on localhost.
I have deployed it to a shared server I rent from storminternet via the publish tool using ftp method (storminternet do not yet support web deploy), and it runs well. It accesses the database okay and get requests work fine.
However, any form that submits via POST protocol returns page not found error 404 (this is on actions where I have asserted [HttpPost]).
Storm internet assure me that POST and GET are allowed by default, and since the helpdesk are not developers, I'm unsure who to turn to. I don't have an excellent understanding of web.config, although I can read and understand xml and see what's going on by reading through and googling. I have tried adding the protocols to the root web.config, and I think I might be barking up the wrong tree.
Has anyone else had this problem, or might anyone know how to help me?
To replicate my error, my site is here... 213.229.125.117/$sitepreview/ase-limited.com/Dev (sorry it isn't blue. The dollar gets parsed to % something)
and the quickest route to a POST request is to click 'Add Building' at the top of the left-hand side and then click 'Save' at the top of the dialogue box.
Any help will be gratefully received. I've been stuck on this for days without luck.
Best Regards
Nick
STOP-PRESS-STOP-PRESS-STOP-PRESS-STOP-PRESS-STOP-PRESS-STOP-PRESS-STOP-PRESS-
It turned out to be a known issue with sitepreview. Switching to the proper domain sorted everything.
I have noticed that you have some 404 javascript errors when performing your AJAX requests. For example you have a request to:
http://213.229.125.117/$sitepreview/ase-limited.com/BuildingManager/Employees/2
instead of:
http://213.229.125.117/$sitepreview/ase-limited.com/Dev/BuildingManager/Employees/2
Notice how /Dev is missing. That's because in your javascripts you have hardcoded your urls instead of using url helpers to generate them. For example you wrote something like this:
$.ajax({
url: '/BuildingManager/Employees/2',
....
});
which works fine on localhost because you don't have a virtual directory name but doesn't work when you deploy on your server because now the correct path is:
$.ajax({
url: '/Dev/BuildingManager/Employees/2',
....
});
For this reason you should absolutely never hardcode urls like that.
And when I try to POST the form in tries to post to http://213.229.125.117/Dev/BuildingManager/SaveBuilding which seems a very weird url as it is missing the whole beginning. Once again: never hardcode urls. Always use url helpers.
I am starting to set up a personal website, and I would like it's layout to look something like
-------------------------------
- Page Header & Menus Go Here -
-------------------------------
- Main Contents -
-------------------------------
- Footers -
-------------------------------
The main question is that I would like it to be a single-page interface in which the main contents are loaded and displayed with a combination of AJAX and jQuery to produce a nice effect. However, I would, of course, like to have the contents bookmark-enabled and indexed by search engines. I have skimmed throught the Single Page Interface Manifesto which explains some nice ways of achieving this, but I wouldn't really like to have my URLs like
http://www.mysite.com/index.php#!section=section1
http://www.mysite.com/index.php#!section=section2
I would, of course, like to re-write them as
http://www.mysite.com/section1
http://www.mysite.com/section2
My questions are this whether this approach is correct/doable and if AJAX URLs are compatible with URL rewriting. What URLS would be indexed by, say, Google anyway?
If you want your page to work without reloading and update at the same time the page's URL, the only way to archieve this is by changing the hash in the URL (location.hash = 'whatever').
URL rewriting cannot be used since the hash is not sent to the server, it's only available in the browser's scope.
Check Facebook or Twitter URLs. They are prettier than #!section=section1 but still need the hash.
Cheers.
If you want to load different content/tabs/some content of page without reloading browser,
Now It is possible with pjax..
you can use something like http://padrino-pjax.heroku.com/
you can try it, go to the link and click on any of links home,dinosaurs,aliens
and you will see It will change url and some content without reloading full page
It is achieved using ajax+push/pop of url in browser
I'm looking for a solution myself for a similar problem (I have a client site with an AJAXed wordpress theme, and these dreadful #! stuff on the URL prevent all the Social sharing plugins I have tried so far, from working correctly).
Apparently, there is a solution (with some drawbacks ofc..). I found about it here: http://moz.com/blog/create-crawlable-link-friendly-ajax-websites-using-pushstate
I know it's like two years since you've asked, but it could be helpful for someone else, or you may wanna check it out just for the sake of the curiosity itself! :-)
