I'm about to embark on a new project which will require linux hosting, so I was hoping for some recommendations. The full technology stack is yet to be finalised, but it very likely to feature: nodejs, ruby and some form of NoSql(couchDB/mongoDB).
As well as supporting a variety of technologies, the hosting also needs to be scalable. Also, it could do with being as cheap as possible.
Any suggestions?
Thanks
Iain
From my personal experience I highly recommend Linode. They're probably the best on the VPS market. If you don't mind starting with a little bigger server, you can try Amazon EC2, which is also a great service.
I haven't had a single problem with Linode in over 2 years, and every time I needed something on tech support, the reply was almost instant.

I'm making a simple website for a family friend. I'm still new to the whole coding world, so I'm still trying to figure basic stuff out.
In terms of hosting the site, I've found quite a few hosting services with different options. For example, I could get a BlueHost premium account and then be able to host all of my future websites.
My main question, from a business perspective, is how do companies or freelance front-end developers host sites? Then, on top of that question, should I do the same with this personal site.
If you currently are looking only for personal use, with very less traffic then the best that I can think of is HEROKU (also free tier is available).
For professional use I would recommend still recommend Heroku for a very troublesome free hosting, but if you need professional type control, I would like to recommend GCP/AWS (both of them equally).
Other Hosting to be considered Netlify.

By this question I like to ask how legal is to track the installation of a free Joomla Module.
I already have create some Joomla Modules, and I like to track the amount of installations.
The only purpose of the trackink will be to track the web sites that using that module, nothing more, nothing less.
But I am wondering, is that legal ?
I wouldn't ask for legal advice from a programmers community. Best advice is to ask a laywer.
But if I were to guess, NOT allowed without the explicit user permission.
Not really the place to be asking this type of question.
Instead of tracking amount of installations, why not track the amount of downloads from your website? Would be much easier and ethical. Could be done with a simple bit of PHP or JS.

I havent had extensive use of vps before. I was wondering, if I purchase one node from Linode, can I run deploy multiple instances? Similar to Amazon EC2? Or would I have to purchase another Linode separately?
Thanks!
Yes, you will—you're paying for guaranteed resources in a particular location, so another Linode it is.
I understand what you trying to say, under single VPS linode instance multiple deployment not possible as of now.

Microsoft Exchange market share is generally quoted to be very high.
What are the technological factors which put Exchange at an advantage over its competitors, that is, other alternatives? Are there any open-source options?
http://www.thehostingnews.com/xs-benefits-exchange-enterprises.html
Because there is such a huge market of people using Outlook as a client. If that is an enterprise wide fact, then the techies find it easier to go with an integrated solution.
A core advantage of Exchange is that it integrates very easily with Microsoft Active Directory. (Same vendor benefit)
Lotus Notes is the main competitor (in the enterprise).

My current employer wants to use JavaDB for his new project. Allright with it, as my favoured SQLite isn't working very well with java and I, er..., don't really feel like arguing about it. Anyway I can't find a decent free tool to manipulate JavaDB or Derby databases. All I have is Netbeans. I've tried others but all the free ones are really tame tools and the pricy ones are good, but my employer doesn't want to pay a dyme (......).
Suggestions?
Perhaps http://squirrel-sql.sourceforge.net/ ?
Been looking for one too. I'm currently eying on this one http://www.razorsql.com
