In Setting up offline viewing using the cache manifest from Lynda.com, the author states that IF I'M USING AN APACHE SERVER, then I need to put my cache.manifest file in a subfolder with an .htaccess file so that the cache.manifest file isn't cached itself.
Q: If I'm not using Apache, but IIS instead, then is there an equivalent file, or maybe there's no need for an .htaccess file to ensure that my cache.manifest file is not being cached.
web.config is the IIS version of .htaccess.
Here's a doc on some of .htaccess conversions: http://learn.iis.net/page.aspx/557/translate-htaccess-content-to-iis-webconfig/

I have a GoDaddy web hosting account with a cPanel access. I am trying to figure out where should i upload my php files.
I have created a new folder inside the public_html folder as fortnox_invoicing and have copied all the code (PHP/HTML/JS) files in that folder.
But when i try to browse the php files it doesn't work instead i get "ops, this page does not exist" message.
http://example.com/fortnox_invoicing/index.php
Following is how the public_html directory looks like for now:
You can upload your PHP files in public_html if you want to browse your website like:
http://example.com
You can also upload PHP files in subfolder if you wish to browse it like
http://example.com/subfolder
If you are receiving error 404 while browsing subfolder, locate .htaccess file and check if there is any rules that are restricting index.php to load and causing 404 page. If .htaccess file is hidden, you'll have to enable the show hidden file in while opening cPanel File Manager. Try renaming .htaccess file and load your website again. Also make sure that root folder contains index page and it is listed as default page in .htaccess file.
You see this page because your website doesn't have "index.php" or "index.html" file in public_html folder.
for example
-public_html
-index.php
**-subfolder**
-aboutus.php
-contact.php
-service.php
**-subfolder**
-thankyou.php
Most service providers use the above hierarchy.
I am trying to install Magento on localhost.
actually, I am a beginner of Magento and stackoverflow.
I have followed guide book and I downloaded Magento sample file.. and unzipped the file at c:/xampp/htdocs/magento
also modified the host file..
whenever I am trying to enter the
www.localhost.com/magento
index of magento page shows up.like ftp server.
How can I open the Magento file as well guide book..
I do not use xammp so I don't know how it's directory structure looks like, but: it looks like you are installing Magento in a subdirectory, right?
If you do so, you have to edit .htaccess. Change RedirectBase to the name of your subdirectory. So here it should be /magento/ And if the RedirectBase line in .htaccess is commented out delete the # at the beginning of that line.
Once magento zip file is unzipped drag the unzipped file in
c:xampp/htdocs/(magento unzipped folder) --->> this is root directory of magento
Now we web browser hit this url
http://localhost/(magento unzipped folder name)
if you are hitting this url first time it asks for configuration and admin url name
to access admin panel
http://localhost/(magento unzipped folder name)/admin url name
That seems to be related with your webserver configuration, and not Magento. If you have Apache, for instance, have a look at your configuration file httpd.conf, and check the line that starts with "DirectoryIndex".
You need to have "index.php" as a valid index file. If you don't, just add it right after DirectoryIndex, restart Apache and it should work fine.
/etc/httpd/conf -> usual location for the httpd.conf file (standard installation, RedHat/CentOS family)
Depending on configuration in the .htaccess file, you might need to specify index.php in the url as such: localhost/magento/index.php or (www.localhost.com/magento/index.php as per your comment) to access it.
Check your virtual host configuration file for the domain name that you are using. If the directory index is missing in the configuration then the apache server will not be able to determine the entry point for the website and will list all of the files.
I'm trying to upload files to my domain that I'm hosting with Dreamhost. I connected to the server with FileZilla and I'm pretty sure I put the files in the right spot.
Their tutorial says to create a directory with your domain name like this: 'mydomain.com' and put your files in there. I put an index.html, p.css, register.php, login.php, and logout.php file in there. However, when I navigate to mydomain.com in Google Chrome, all I see is this:
Does anybody know what could be causing this?
BTW I didn't actually create a directory called "mydomain.com" I used the domain I own.
UPDATE:
The directories are set up like this:
/
mydomain.com
public_html
register.php
main.css
logout.php
login.php
index.html
Can you make sure you have group read permissions on the file you are attempting to fetch?
You want permission each file has a 755 permission, here is how you would change a file permission in FileZilla.
Also, make sure everything is in the public_html file.
public_html/index.html
public_html/p.css
public_html/register.php
public_html/login.php
public_html/logout.php
Try adding a file named .htaccess to your public_html directory. In this file, put the following line:
DirectoryIndex index.html
Assuming the webserver is Apache (or a work-alike) this tells the server to send index.html whenever someone asks for /.
I finally figured it out. For some reason it wasn't working when the directory was labeled mydomain.com. I changed it to mydomain_com and it fixed it for whatever reason. Thank you to cevaris and Amazed for helping me.
I am using Magento ver 7. I have changed the server of my website with the same URL.
So, I export the database from old server and Imported the same database to new server. Apart from this I have also uploaded all the files to the new server.
I have also changed the database credentials in the /public_html/app/etc/local.xml file.
But now when I am open the URL, it shows an error that "Not Found, The requested URL /index.php/ was not found on this server."
I don't know why this is happening.
It works for me.
turn off url rewriting from magento admin configuration>web> Search
Engines Optimization > Use Web Server Rewrites > No
RewriteEngine comment this line in In your .htaccess in the root of your installation
I tried many solutions to resolve this issue.
One thing I did was I removed the local.xml file from the app/etc directory and reinstalled Magento. While reinstalling, in the third step I checked the two check boxes. One is skip base url and the other for url rewrites.
Then it worked like charm.
I also got this problem when I was restoring a backup of the magento folder, The problem was that I copied the files with the wrong command:
cp -R /something/folder/* /folder
This command does recursive copying of all folder but ommits the files which start with ".", therefore the files which make a redirection like ".htaccess" where not copied.
Instead use:
cp -R /something/folder /folder
I've added some additional sites to my apache config today, however the default document root should serve the "It Works" index.html.en apache default page. However I must of altered something by accident as it now displays the directory listing by default instead? If I navigate to index.html.en it successfully loads, but not by default when I enter 127.0.0.1 for example.
I'm sure the .en language files are resolved by httpd-languages.conf, I have doubled checked that files dependancies are included in httpd.conf 'mod_mime' & 'mod_negotiation'.
The problem shouldn't bother me to much but I would like to discover the cause if possible?
Specify your DirectoryIndex by putting:
DirectoryIndex index.html.en
in httpd.conf or .htaccess files.
