I try to use the Stripes layout tags (layout-definition, layout-render, ...).
My layout include a header with a menu and a content under.
I render a form with Stripes validation in the content :
#ValidateNestedProperties({
#Validate(field="email", required=true, on="edit", converter=EmailTypeConverter.class), ...
If I use the validation I get an exception :
javax.servlet.ServletException: PWC1232: Exceeded maximum depth for nested request dispatches: 20
If I remove the validation of the form, it works...
Any idea how to be able to use both? Or probably I am doing something wrong?
Thanks!
Please post additional code for your layout. I do not believe this error has anything to do with your validation.
It could sound like you are calling jsp includes over and over again. e.g.:
a.jsp includes b.jsp which includes a.jsp etc...

I have a nice drop down area, but if I set that to class"dropzone" then the form elements are not sent.
If I add class"dropzone" to the form, then the form elements are sent, but the thumbnails appear under the form, the submit button, etc.
How please do I tell dropzone to use my template at id "#dropzone_thumbs_here" or class ".dropzone_thumbs_here". Do I have to fully write my own thumbnail handler? Or send form details separately? Or is there a better method !!
Sorry, I missed the answer because in the documentation it was under tips and not configuration.
In the config parameters, just added:
previewsContainer: "#myPreviewContainerID",
the page markup has
<div wicket:id="stepPanel" />
tag in it and when the page is first loaded it works great that is
add(new MyFirstPanel("stepPanel"));
works fine. But then when I trigger an Ajax event and request redrawing
addOrReplace(new MySecondPanel("stepPanel"));
target.add(MyPage.this);
i get the following error
Last cause: Failed to find markup file associated. MyFirstPanel: [MyFirstPanel [Component id = stepPanel]]
please note that it tries to find the wrong markup (should look for markup for MySecondPanel) and it fails regardless it succedded to do so before!
I instantiate panels using reflection, but could it be a problem here? No exceptions thrown.
Anwser:
Actually it was something else - I have noticed that one of my AjaxSubmitLinks had reference to a form that was no longer placed in a markup... so whatever you do just remember not to leave that reference.
You are adding MyPage after replacing the Panel causing MyPage to re-render.
There is a good example on how to replace panels here.
Yes you can call panels via reflection. I don't clearly know what you are trying to do with event here but if you want you can attach your panel with AjaxSelfUpdatingTimerBehavior and define the duration which will update this component in the given time period.
Hope its useful.
Please see jsfiddle for example, blank out First Name field to have validation tooltip show. In a normal form the validation tooltip positions correctly to the right of each element. But in the popup editor for the grid it still trying to position the tooltip below the element as if it where editing inline. I have tried <span class="k-invalid-msg" data-for="FirstName"></span>but it doesn't change anything. Is there a setting I am missing to get this working in popupeditor? I guess I could manually modify the .k-tooltip but I am hoping for something more built in that handles the positioning correctly, because I am not very good at css.
As you've discovered, the error template for the grid is different to that provided by the kendo validator when applied to standard inputs.
Unfortunately, the validator that is created internally by the grid does not pass along any errorTemplate that you might define in the options object and by the time the "edit" event fires, the validator has already been created and the error template compiled, hence why setting the errorTemplate in the manner you describe does not work. Really, I think the Kendo grid should respect any user defined errorTemplate option but until it does we have to hack a little bit.
The key is to define a custom template and to apply it in the edit event, but instead of using the options object, set the private instance directly. Not ideal, but it works:
edit: function (e) {
e.sender.editable.validatable._errorTemplate =
kendo.template($('#tooltip-template').html());
}
See this updated fiddle for an example of what I think you might be looking to achieve.
http://jsfiddle.net/nukefusion/eQ2j7/10/
(I would post this as a comment but not enough reputation yet...)
I'm successfully using nukefusion's solution. I, too, fought with the syntax error from jQuery for a long time and discovered through debugging that how you define the template is important. In particular, it appears that the template has to be written on a single line without any formatting, as in:
<script id="tooltip-template" type="text/x-kendo-template"><span class="k-widget k-tooltip k-tooltip-validation"><span class="k-icon k-warning"></span>#=message#</span></script>
If you try to make it "pretty" and format the html in the template, you get the syntax error. I don't know where the real bug is, as this sort of thing shouldn't cause an error. But it does and I stopped worrying about it once I got it to work correctly.
I have a wizard style page that I want to validate a page at a time. So before the user can move off the (partial) page I submit the inputs from the div for validation. Client side validation works OK but on some pages there are one or more fields I need to validate on the server. Yes I know about remote validation.
I can get the server side validation done without a problem. The issue I have is how do I display the errors on the correct fields? I can locate the fields in the div and find the span where the error message is suppose to go. But I just can't get the message to display.
I must be missing something when updating the field span. I would have thouht that there is a jQuery routine to add error information to a field. I need something similar to the controllers AddModuleError. So when I get return from my $.Post I can set error text on the appropriate fields.
Any suggestions?
A potential solution to your problem might be in this article "Client side validation after Ajax Partial View result in ASP.NET MVC 3"
Basically, once you get your html from the post you can invoke validation using jQuery.validator.unobtrusive.parse()
As per the example in the article;
$.post("YourAction", { data: <your form data> },
function(htmlContent){
$('#container').html(htmlContent);
jQuery.validator.unobtrusive.parse('#content')
}
Worth looking into
If you are using the included RemoteAttribute, or the version I linked to in my answer to your other remote validation question, then you should not have to worry about displaying the error, as both work with the ValidationMessage helpers to automatically display errors.
Have you added Html.ValidationMessage(...) or Html.ValidationMessageFor(...) for each field to be validated?
I'm requesting an ASP.net MVC view into a live box and the view contains form fields that have been marked up with attributes to be used by JQuery's unobtrusive validators plug-in.
The client script is not however working and my theory is that its because the validation framework is only being triggered on page load which has long since passed by the time the MVC view has been loaded into the live box.
Thus how can I let the validation framework know that it has new form fields to fix up?
Cheers, Ian.
var $form = $("form");
$form.unbind();
$form.data("validator", null);
$.validator.unobtrusive.parse(document);
// Re add validation with changes
$form.validate($form.data("unobtrusiveValidation").options);
You may take a look at the following blog post. And here's another one.
Another option, rather trick, which worked for me. Just add following line in the beginning of the partial view which is being returned by ajax call
this.ViewContext.FormContext = new FormContext();
Reference
For some reason I had to combine bjan and dfortun's answers...
So I put this in my view:
#{
this.ViewContext.FormContext = new FormContext();
}
And this execute this after the ajax call finishes:
var form = $("#EnrollmentForm");
form.unbind();
form.data("validator", null);
$.validator.unobtrusive.parse(document);
form.validate(form.data("unobtrusiveValidation").options);
I had a similar issue. I had a form that was using Ajax requests to re-display a part of the form with different form fields. I used unobtrusive validation by manually doing it on the client side using the
#Html.TextBoxFor
for my text boxes. For some reason the validation works when attempting to submit with invalid fields (i.e., the text boxes get outlined in red and the appropriate error messages display with the content I put in the
data_val_required
attribute, for example.
However, after I click a button that makes an Ajax request to modify the form with different fields and then submit again, only the red outline on the invalid fields display, but no error messages are rendered.
bjan's trick worked for me, but I still can't see what was causing the issue. All the HTML necessary to carry out the client-side validation was there I just can't figure out why the error message attribute values wouldn't display.
All I can think of is that the jQuery validation code doesn't make a second attempt to check the form fields after a submit was made.
