I'm rewriting the style for the PhoneTextBox, changing the default background to "transpanrent", the foreground to "White" and the BorderBrush to "White", because I want to design a Dark-Theme.
But a problem came up that the text-input-indicator disappeared. I thank the reason is that the foreground of the text-input-indicator is black, so the user can't see it. But I can not find a way to define the foreground of the text-input-indicator. Any tips will be appricated.
PS. I don't konw how to decribe the indicator, so I make up the word "text-input-indicator", which is shown below:
Nomal situation,the black Vertical line shows up.
After rewriting the style, the user can't see the black vertical line:

Probably you looking for CaretBrush, SelectionBackground and SelectionForeground. I don't know these properties are binded or not in toolkit:PhoneTextBox, but you definitely can restyle it manually in any case.

In following with current design philosophy, I'd like to be able to create flat button style that I can apply any phone accent color to. Essentially I'd like this to look somewhat like a tile, with the flat theme and an icon as the button's content. How might I accomplish this? I do not need to use the HubTile or any sort of secondary tile in my application, this is just for use as a button to be themed in this way. It will simply navigate a user to another part of the application. I am not sure how to change the default style template for a button control to create such an effect? My end result would be to have four of these stylized buttons along the bottom of the screen, each with a different icon as the content which would be intuitive to a user as to what the button's click event will proceed in doing.

I have tried to modify the shine Border at the bottom of the style to a single color (preferably a dark (possibly with an opacity of .7) grey that would nicely match the dark theme) but I still see effects of the glass button style, namely the top half of the button being lighter than the bottom. I believe the other changes I would like to do I can manage, such as removing corner radius of button style so that the button would be square and also the border around the button. Either way, any recommendations, tips, or advice would greatly help!
How about this:

I'm working on a Windows Phone 8 project. My issue with this button:

</VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<Button.Content>
<Image Source="/Assets/Player/sub_minus.png" Width="28" Height="28"/>
</Button.Content>
</Button>
is that none of the two animations gets trigged. I tried to change VisualStateGroup's name to FocusState and VisualState's name to Focused, but I didn't saw any change either. Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I appreciate your attention!
The problem is with how you're trying to modify the Visual States. These are actually part of the inner template of the button and not configurable in the way you are trying.
Instead you should look to create a new style which includes the visual state changes you want and they applying that style to the button.
Like this:
<phone:PhoneApplicationPage.Resources>
<SolidColorBrush Color="Aqua" x:Key="aquabrush" />
<Style x:Key="AlternativeButtonStyle" TargetType="Button">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent"/>
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="{StaticResource PhoneForegroundBrush}"/>
<Setter Property="Foreground" Value="{StaticResource PhoneForegroundBrush}"/>
<Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="{StaticResource PhoneBorderThickness}"/>
<Setter Property="FontFamily" Value="{StaticResource PhoneFontFamilySemiBold}"/>
<Setter Property="FontSize" Value="{StaticResource PhoneFontSizeMedium}"/>
<Setter Property="Padding" Value="10,5,10,6"/>
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="Button">
<Grid Background="Transparent">
<VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<VisualStateGroup x:Name="CommonStates">
<VisualState x:Name="Normal"/>
<VisualState x:Name="MouseOver"/>
<VisualState x:Name="Pressed">
<Storyboard>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="BorderBrush" Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBackground">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="{StaticResource aquabrush}"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="Height" Storyboard.TargetName="ButtonBackground">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="70"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
</Storyboard>
</VisualState>
<VisualState x:Name="Disabled" />
</VisualStateGroup>
<VisualStateGroup x:Name="FocusStates"/>
</VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<Border x:Name="ButtonBackground" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" CornerRadius="0" Margin="{StaticResource PhoneTouchTargetOverhang}">
<ContentControl x:Name="ContentContainer" ContentTemplate="{TemplateBinding ContentTemplate}" Content="{TemplateBinding Content}" Foreground="{TemplateBinding Foreground}" HorizontalContentAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalContentAlignment}" Padding="{TemplateBinding Padding}" VerticalContentAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalContentAlignment}"/>
</Border>
</Grid>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>
</phone:PhoneApplicationPage.Resources>
<Grid x:Name="LayoutRoot" Background="Transparent">
<Button Content="pressed?" Style="{StaticResource AlternativeButtonStyle}" />

I have a button on the listbox. I applied the style on the button. However, it doesn't fire on Pressed VisualState. I am sure the style is no problem because the another button used this style on other page. Would someone show me how to solve this probelm. Thanks.

Im not able to centre align password in a PasswordBox in Windows Phone. The centre align is disabled. Is there any method by which we can align the text to the centre?
I tried setting of the verticalcontentalignment and the horizontalcontentalignment to center but it does not have any effect. Or is it possible to give a spacing between the border of the password box and the password.

You can edit the control template to achieve that effect:

I want to change the background of a selected item in a listbox to some color, so i am changing the selection state in a style template:
<Style x:Key="ListBoxItemStyle1" TargetType="ListBoxItem">
<Setter Property="Background" Value="Transparent"/>
<Setter Property="BorderThickness" Value="0"/>
<Setter Property="BorderBrush" Value="Transparent"/>
<Setter Property="Padding" Value="0"/>
<Setter Property="HorizontalContentAlignment" Value="Left"/>
<Setter Property="VerticalContentAlignment" Value="Top"/>
<Setter Property="Template">
<Setter.Value>
<ControlTemplate TargetType="ListBoxItem">
<Border x:Name="LayoutRoot" BorderBrush="{TemplateBinding BorderBrush}" BorderThickness="{TemplateBinding BorderThickness}" Background="{TemplateBinding Background}" HorizontalAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalAlignment}" VerticalAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalAlignment}">
<VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<VisualStateGroup x:Name="CommonStates">
<VisualState x:Name="Normal"/>
<VisualState x:Name="MouseOver"/>
<VisualState x:Name="Disabled">
<Storyboard>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetProperty="Background" Storyboard.TargetName="LayoutRoot">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0" Value="{StaticResource TransparentBrush}"/>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<DoubleAnimation Duration="0" To=".5" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Opacity" Storyboard.TargetName="ContentContainer"/>
</Storyboard>
</VisualState>
</VisualStateGroup>
<VisualStateGroup x:Name="SelectionStates">
<VisualState x:Name="Unselected"/>
<VisualState x:Name="Selected">
<Storyboard>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetName="ContentContainer" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Foreground" Duration="0">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame.Value>
<SolidColorBrush Color="White"/>
</DiscreteObjectKeyFrame.Value>
</DiscreteObjectKeyFrame>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
<ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames Storyboard.TargetName="border" Storyboard.TargetProperty="Background" Duration="0">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame KeyTime="0">
<DiscreteObjectKeyFrame.Value>
<SolidColorBrush Color="YellowGreen"/>
</DiscreteObjectKeyFrame.Value>
</DiscreteObjectKeyFrame>
</ObjectAnimationUsingKeyFrames>
</Storyboard>
</VisualState>
</VisualStateGroup>
</VisualStateManager.VisualStateGroups>
<StackPanel x:Name="border" Orientation="Horizontal">
<ContentControl x:Name="ContentContainer" ContentTemplate="{TemplateBinding ContentTemplate}" Content="{TemplateBinding Content}" Foreground="{TemplateBinding Foreground}" HorizontalContentAlignment="{TemplateBinding HorizontalContentAlignment}" Margin="{TemplateBinding Padding}" VerticalContentAlignment="{TemplateBinding VerticalContentAlignment}"/>
</StackPanel>
</Border>
</ControlTemplate>
</Setter.Value>
</Setter>
</Style>
However, when i add this template to the listbox, it loads empty which is incorrect.
Also, i am binding the items in the listbox to the following itemtemplate:
<DataTemplate x:Key="FlightsTemplate">
<StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal" Margin="3" Background="#FF171717" Height="35">
<TextBlock FontSize="19" Margin="1,0,0,0" TextAlignment="Center" Width="60" Text="{Binding Time}"/>
<TextBlock FontSize="19" Margin="1,0,0,0" TextAlignment="Center" Width="80" Text="{Binding Flight}"/>
<TextBlock FontSize="19" Margin="1,0,0,0" TextAlignment="Center" Width="150" Text="{Binding City}"/>
<TextBlock FontSize="19" Margin="1,0,0,0" TextAlignment="Center" Width="90" Text="{Binding Status}"/>
<TextBlock FontSize="19" Margin="1,0,0,0" TextAlignment="Center" Width="70" Text="{Binding Expected_Time}"/>
</StackPanel>
</DataTemplate>
You need to change ListBoxItem Template.
