I've seen a great deal of games on windows phone featuring the xbox mark and a lot not featuring it. I have some questions about that:
1) What is the difference between the 2 types of games? As i see it, i think that the xbox versions can award achievements for some tasks on the users xbox profile. Is there more?
2) How can one add a game to the marketplace and make it xbox-able?
Any tutorial or web source could be of great use!

To get Xbox live approved, I think you have to work with Microsoft - you have to get your company approved - see http://www.xbox.com/en-US/developers/wp7 for more details.

While most articles and posts I have been through discuss about Native vs Xamarin or Native vs Hybrid(Phonegap) I searched around and very few with Xamarin and Phonegap.
Me and a group of my friends are developing a photo-sharing app of sorts and we want it to be cross platform. But we're stuck with the dilemma of going with Phonegap or Xamarin.
While price-wise both are free(except for iOS development) and we're familiar with the languages and technologies used by both, we're at a stalemate arguing on points such as;
Developer support
API availability
Ability to debug and update easily.
Whichever platform which delivers the best of all of this is what we hope to go with.

I have a few questions for building apps.
Can u make apps using c++?
How do I get an app from my testing environment onto my windows phone 8?
Do I have to worry about cross phone compatibility?
paying $200 to put apps on the marketplace is extremely out of the question. I just want to test my app on my actual phone.
I assume you are trying to develop windows phone 8 apps, and yes you can develop using c++, but you have to read up on async await, as the sdk have tons of it in order to give the fluid user experience.
And the last time I checked, the developer account only costs $25 now
Well Yes!
You need to unlock your Windows Phone to actually test in on a Hardware Device.
You don't need to worry about the compatibility, but you should take note of the High-Res Phones that are in the Market too.

I am interested in how does shazam or soundhound work.
How does it record a voice and makes a fingerprint that is so simmilar to their database of fingerprints that it finds a match?
I am about to start writing some software in C/C++ but not sure which libraries to use, seen there is some Speech SDK from Microsoft. Dont you have some suggestions, where to start 'understanding' the process of analyzing voice and playing with it?
I would be thankful for every tip or idea you will share :]
There are some existing pieces of software you could look at:
AudioDB: C++
mercurial repo: http://code.soundsoftware.ac.uk/projects/audiodb/
Sonic Visualiser: SV Libraries are written in C++ using Qt4

Does anyone know how you see how many downloads/purchases of your Windows Phone 7 app you've had?
The reports in the App Hub don't show me a anything!
Cheers,
Ash.
Other than AppHub you can use the Microsoft-endorsed solution called Runtime Intelligence Service. According to their website:
Application monitoring and
analytics
Number of application sessions
Number of unique users
Feature usage counts and duration
General system and stability statistics

I have a requirement that I need to restrict my kids from browsing some sites . I want to be the adminbstrator for my machine, but other users have limited access to internet. Is there any software / proxy for this ? i want solution for both windows / linux and mac
My brother managed his daughters' access on Macs like this:
Restrict Safari from going to sites not in the Bookmarks
Only an administrator can create bookmarks
His user is an administrator; theirs aren't.
Kids can be pretty smart, though, and once they're sufficiently motivated to figure out how to get around your access controls it's not worth continuing the arms race.
