I am developing a Windows Phone 7 application. I noticed the Genre tag in WMAppManifest.xml, but was unable to do anything useful with it. How can I categorize my application to be a game? And if it's possible add it to a certain category in the games section.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?>
<Deployment xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/windowsphone/2009/deployment"
AppPlatformVersion="7.1">
<App xmlns=""
ProductID=""
Title=""
RuntimeType=""
Version=""
Genre="How can I use this?"
Author=""
Description=""
Publisher="">

I have tried every single manifest example under the sun in order to get my small application to scale properly (on Windows 8.1). Here's my latest attempt, for example:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<assembly xmlns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v1" manifestVersion="1.0" xmlns:asmv3="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:asm.v3">
<asmv3:application>
<asmv3:windowsSettings>
<dpiAware xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SMI/2005/WindowsSettings">true/pm</dpiAware>
<dpiAwareness xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/SMI/2016/WindowsSettings">PerMonitorV2</dpiAwareness>
</asmv3:windowsSettings>
</asmv3:application>
</assembly>
Absolutely nothing has worked. So I was wondering if there's something else that needs to be done. My application is a COM Dll that's loaded out of process via DllSurrogate. Is there something else that should be added (maybe a commmand line flag or something) in order to get awareness to kick in? Calling SetProcessDpiAwareness(PROCESS_PER_MONITOR_DPI_AWARE) does work, actually, but the docs discourage making API calls in lieu of the manifest approach. Thank you for any help!
How to show the application name in the tiles.
As shown in the figure, i am developing the last application in the screen. For that i need to show the name of the application.
In PackageManifest file i have added all the images to show the images in the home screen.
Any help on this highly appreciated.
Thank you.

If you open your Package.appxmanifest and go to Visual Assets, you will see show name with check boxes. Check off appropriate box next to your asset.
See Screenshot for Example
If you are doing XML you can set the branding attribute to "name" as well. E.g like this:
<tile>
<visual>
<binding template="TileMedium" branding="name">
</binding>
</visual>
</tile>
I'm new to Xamarin. How can i design a pop up menu that looks like google play menu in Xamarin ? I.e see the image below :
There are several ways to go about making a fly-out menu, which is what I believe you are after. The very basic approach, is to add something similar to the following to your AXML:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<flyoutmenu.FlyOutContainer xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
android:layout_width="fill_parent"
android:layout_height="fill_parent">
<include
layout="#layout/MenuLayout" />
<include
layout="#layout/ContentLayout" />
</flyoutmenu.FlyOutContainer>

I hope this helps!
I have created an working WiX Patch but during it's installation it does not show the product background image.
The original product setup dialog shows the images and they are defined in it's project like:
<Product ...>
<WixVariable Id="WixUIBannerBmp" Value="gn_setup_dialog_banner.bmp" />
<WixVariable Id="WixUIDialogBmp" Value="gn_setup_dialog.bmp" />
The patch is created and works fine. The problem is that it does not show these images. It shows some default background for the dialog.
Here is my patch if this helps:
<?xml version='1.0' encoding='windows-1252'?>
<Wix xmlns='http://schemas.microsoft.com/wix/2006/wi'>
<Patch AllowRemoval='yes'
Manufacturer='xxx'
MoreInfoURL='...'
DisplayName='...'
Description='Small Update Patch'
Classification='Update'
Codepage="...">
<Media Id='5000' Cabinet='RTM.cab'>
<PatchBaseline Id='RTM' />
</Media>
<PatchFamily Id="HotFixPatchFamily" Version="1.0.1.0" Supersede="no" />
</Patch>
</Wix>
Thanks for helping.
For some reason the patch was delivering these two files as "new" ones...even tough they were not changed.
Anyway, I solved the problem by replacing the stock Wix dialog images, like it is suggested here (at bottom "Replacing the stock bitmaps"):

I am looking for a format of the location data used by the Windowws Phone Emulator Additional Tools. On the tab "Location" there is an option to save/open recorder data. I ask this question because I need simulate geo position change but Location Tab doesn't work for me. As a workaround I am going to create a file of the location data and open it in the emulator.
It's a simple XML file in this format:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<WindowsPhoneEmulator xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/WindowsPhoneEmulator/2009/08/SensorData">
<SensorData>
<Header version="1" />
<GpsData latitude="" longitude="" />
<GpsData latitude="" longitude="" />
<GpsData latitude="" longitude="" />
</SensorData>
</WindowsPhoneEmulator>
