I have an MVC3 C# .Net web app. The app works fine when launching the website from external browsers (i.e., the browser on my machine and other users' machine). However, when launched on the web server itself, I receive the following error
'sessionStorage' is undefined
...when loading an web page. It's the type of error that displays the little yellow icon at the bottom of the browser.
Any ideas? I must be missing on the server's browser.
IE7 doesn't support sessionStorage. You can use it starting from IE8.

I am currently working with a classic ASP web application. What I'm wondering about is how it knows which browser to launch, I've looked over everything and am unable to find anywhere that it says to Launch Firefox in order to open the application. If i have firefox uninstalled, then it launches Chrome, however, when I hvae both Chrome and Firefox, then Firefox launched even if I have Chrome set as my default browser. Anyone have an idea?
your asp code has no connection whatsoever with what browser is used, it's browser independent. in order for you web app to run, you must open a browser FIRST, then go to the url of your web app, which will then fire off the asp code. It would be a huge security issue if i went to a web site, and it decided to open a different browser on my computer!
if you want to set Chrome as your default browser, follow these instructions:
https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95417?co=GENIE.Platform%3DDesktop&hl=en
for firefox - https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/how-change-your-default-browser-windows-10
for IE - https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17435/windows-internet-explorer-make-default-browser
Your default browser is a different setting than the "open this file type with this program" setting. If double-clicking an .asp file opens in Firefox, then that's the latter type of setting.
To change it, right-click an .asp file, choose the "Open with >" option, then "Choose default program...".
That all said, 99.999% of users will never have occasion to double-click an .asp file, because most of us don't use web servers as our normal everyday computers.
I was trying to getting drop box login to work through my Universal Window Platform App. I have followed the steps through the following guide : https://microsoftedge.github.io/WebAppsDocs/en-US/win10/CreateHWA.htm , where it turns my website into a Windows Store app but I can't seem to get dropbox login working. When I try click on the icon which allows users to login, it crashes the app. On the website it works perfectly.
I have tried adding https://www.dropbox.com to the URI but it didn't work. I checked through the console and got the following problem:
Dropbox:APPHOST9624: The app can’t use script to load [website url] url because the url launches another app. Only direct user interaction can launch another app.
I never encountered this problem through the website.
I also encountered another error which I don't recognise the source of which was:
APPHOST9603: Can’t load the ActiveX plug-in that has the class ID '[Class id here]'. Apps can't load ActiveX controls.
I work on an asp.net mvc app.
This morning I was able to debug my server side code from a Google Chrome browser instance. I simply select Google Chrome in place of Internet Explorer in my VS2012 then click on it to run the app. When a breakpoint was reached (for example in my controller) it switch automatically to VS2012 for debugging.
This afternoon I am not able to do it again with Google Chrome. Only able to debug with Internet Explorer.
Any idea what's wrong?
It shouldn't matter which browser you tell VS to open your website in. If your debugger is attached to your C# your breakpoints should be hit as long as you're using the correct URI defined by your MVC app. I use fiddler and postman to debug my controllers all the time. Are you sure you didn't make any changes that would cause Chrome to make an incorrect request? Or perhapse the browser has cached old code and that's why the breakpoints are not being hit? I always open Chrome with ctrl + shift N to avoid having any caching issues.
I'm currently working on a project that renders emails in HTML format to a Silverlight 5 app. The app is intended to be viewed via a web browser and not an 'Out of browser' app. The WebBrowser control was initially used, but I'm having issues with it. A message stating that IE needs elevated permissions and such. After reading how to properly implement the WebBrowser control by signing the .xap file and installing certificates it seems to work when I run it locally, but when I publish to the server (Windows Server 2008), it doesn't seem to work.
I tried to implement an alternative I found -> http://blogs.msdn.com/b/delay/archive/2007/09/10/bringing-a-bit-of-html-to-silverlight-htmltextblock-makes-rich-text-display-easy.aspx, but that didn't seem to work as the HTML I'm trying to render has many tags not supported in that example.
I also took a look at the Frame control http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.windows.controls.frame(v=vs.95).aspx but not sure if that would solve my problem either.
So if anyone can guide me into the right direction of either how I can get the WebBrowser control to work when pushed to the server or perhaps another alternative it would be greatly appreciated.
Has anyone encountered the following problem: I have IIS7 running on my computer. On that same computer, I open IE7 and the website works (http://localhost/web.site/Default.aspx). Put that same url in Firefox 3 and I get the welcome screen of IIS7, a big image with IIS7 in the middle and 'Welcome' in several different languages. Clicking on the image leads you to http://www.iis.net/.
One browser accesses your server via 127.0.0.1, and another via your external IP.
Make sure virtualhost works with all network interfaces.
Perhaps your browsers have different locals set , only guessing as I have not used IIS7
Strange. That happened to me this morning (April 9, 2009), but the other way around. I was trying to get to Dell.ca. IE7 brought me to that IIS7 Welcome screen and Firefox brought me to the correct site. Happened 3 times before it corrected itself.
I do not have IIS anywhere on my network and my default home page is Google, which came up without a problem. The redirection occurred when I typed the new URL. I wonder if Dell is using IIS7...
