I'm currently implementing a blankContent SimpleDialog for jQuery Mobile.
This is the html:
<li>
<a href="#page1" id="searchdialog" data-theme="" data-icon="search">Search Routes
</a>
</li>
And this is the jQuery:
<script type="text/javascript">
$(document).delegate('#searchdialog', 'click', function() {
$('<div>').simpledialog2({
mode: 'blank',
headerText: 'Route Search',
headerClose: true,
blankContent :
'<div id="content" data-role="content"><label>Enter Your Search:</label><div data-role="fieldcontain"><fieldset data-role="controlgroup">' +
'<label for="textinput7">Start</label><input id="start" placeholder="" value="" type="text"/></fieldset></div>'+
'<div data-role="fieldcontain"><fieldset data-role="controlgroup"><label for="textinput9">End</label>'+
'<input id="end" placeholder="" value="" type="text" /></fieldset></div>'+
'<a data-role="button" data-transition="fade" data-theme="b" href="#page6" data-icon="search" data-iconpos="left" onclick="alert($("#start").val(),$("#end").val())">Search</a>'
})
});
</script>
I can not for the life of me figure out what is causing this error:
Uncaught SyntaxError: Unexpected token }
The error only occurs when the Search Routes link is clicked, which leads me to believe it's an error in the jquery. Interestingly, if I make it
onclick="alert()"
instead of
onclick="alert($("#start").val(),$("#end").val())"
Then it works, but I need to have a varient of the other along the lines of:
onclick="location.href = "/search/?start=" + $("#start").val() + "&end=" + $("#end").val()"
Thoughts on how I can accomplish this? Any quick and dirty solution will work. Thanks
your line:
'onclick="alert($("#start").val(),$("#end").val())"'
is causing the errors. You have conflicting quotes in your onclick attribute ( and a non-string comma! )
You would be better off creating a hidden / display:none element w/this hard coded info in it then simply referring to it.
OR assigning a handler # time that html is created (similar to your already delegated handler )
edit: Basically take this:
'<a data-role="button" data-transition="fade" data-theme="b" href="#page6" data-icon="search" data-iconpos="left" onclick="alert($("#start").val(),$("#end").val())">Search</a>'
and do this instead:
'<a class="some-wonky-alert" data-role="button" data-transition="fade" data-theme="b" href="#page6" data-icon="search" data-iconpos="left" >Search</a>'
$('a .some-wonky-alert').on('click', function()
{
alert($("#start").val() + $("#end").val());
});
Season as delegated # your convenience
edit2 : Or of course you could try to escape the quotes - but while that might work - it won't solve the bad practices being engaged in :)

I am using ckeditor in a web application, when I added the ckeditor.replace code in the html template I get an error " Uncaught TypeError: Cannot call method 'getEditor' of undefined ". On the same page if I endter CKEDITOR.replace('id_taskDetails'); in the console I see all the buttons.
BTW, I get the alert.
I tried the solution from here: Inline CKEditor with toolbar on generated code
This stops the error but still no toolbar.
What am I missing?
<script>
alert('foo');
CKEDITOR.replace('id_taskDetails');
</script>
<div id="content">
<form action="/createTask/Test1/" enctype="multipart/form-data" method="post" class="basic-grey">
<p><label for="id_taskName">Task Name:</label> <input id="id_taskName" maxlength="64" name="taskName" type="text" /></p>
<p><label for="id_taskDetails">Details:</label> <textarea cols="60" id="id_taskDetails" name="taskDetails" rows="40">
</textarea></p>
<input type="submit" class="button" name="save" value="Next">
</form>
Looks like I need to post a question on StackOverflow before I get it right.
I used the jquery load function to make sure the page completely loaded before calling the ckeditor replace call and it works fine now.
<script>
$(window).load(function () {
CKEDITOR.replace('id_taskDetails');
});
</script>
CKEDITOR.replace must be executed when the element which you try to replace exists, so after it.
<p><label for="id_taskDetails">Details:</label> <textarea cols="60" id="id_taskDetails" name="taskDetails" rows="40">
</textarea></p>
<script>
CKEDITOR.replace('id_taskDetails');
</script>
Okay, so I think i'm doing this wrong. I just started working with jquery and Ajax and cannot find any real good tutorials. so i'm basically working off Jquery code i've found and trying to get it to work.
Could someone explain to me why this isn't working?
(the login.php file is just a login script that returns "true" if it was run successfully and "false" if it fails).
<?php
include('./includes/config.php');
echo $_SESSION['uid'];
?>
<a href='logout.php'>logout</a>
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.10.2/jquery.min.js"></script>
<form method="post" id='login_form'>
<input type='text' name='username' id='username'>
<input type='password' name='password' id='password'>
<input type='submit' id='submit'>
</form>
<script type='text/javascript'>
$('#login_form').submit(
function()
{
$.ajax({
type:POST,
url:'login.php',
success: function(){alert('win!')}
})
})
</script>
In your code, it should be type:'POST' or type:"POST", not type:POST.
The official explanation page is actually quite good:
http://api.jquery.com/jQuery.ajax/
Just grab some of the sample code from there.
I have a kendo mobile form that I will be using to capture some information from my users.
I would like to post the data to a web service or aspx(test page) using ajax. It seems like overkill to use MVVM for a form that the user fills out and there will be no reads/updates/deletes.
The ajax call happens but I cannot figure out how to post the data . Nothing goes over if i use $(this).serialize(). If I hard code some data, then it works.
There are going to be a lot of controls on the page and i hope i don't have to manually build the form data. I cannot add a <form> tag as it breaks the styling of the page.
If there is a more "kendo" way of doing this please show me how. Thanks
Here is what I have so far.
//Submit Form
function submit_form(e) {
$.post('TestPost.aspx', $(this).serialize(), function (data) {
// This is executed when the call to web service was succesful.
// 'data' contains the response from the request
alert(data);
}).error(function (xhr, ajaxOptions, thrownError, request, error) {
alert('xrs.status = ' + xhr.status + '\n' +
'thrown error = ' + thrownError + '\n' +
'xhr.statusText = ' + xhr.statusText + '\n' +
'request = ' + request + '\n' +
'error = ' + error);
});
e.preventDefault();
}
//Example of html controls
<div id="checks" data-role="view" data-title="Foo" data-layout="checklayout">
<ul data-role="listview" data-style="inset" data-type="group">
<li>Floor
<ul>
<li>
<label for="Foo">
<input type="radio" name="Foo" id="FooOk" value="Ok" />
Ok</label>
</li>
<li>
<label for="Foo2">
<input type="radio" name="Foo" id="FooNotOk" value="NotOk" />
Not Ok</label>
</li>
<li id="Comment1" class="divComment" style="display: none;">
<label>
Comments
<input type="text" name="TextComment" id="TextComment" placeholder="Type Comments" autocomplete="off" tabindex="1" />
</label>
</li>
<li id="C1" class="divComment" style="display: none;">
<label>
Charges
<select id="Charges" name="Charges" >
<option value="nc">test</option>
</select>
</label>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
<ul data-role="listview" data-style="inset" data-type="group">
<li>Picture
<ul>
<li>
<label>
Select a Photo
<input type="file" id="kitFile" style="display: none;" />
<a data-role="button" data-click="select" style="float: right;">Select</a>
</label>
</li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
</div>
//Submit button
<a data-align="right" data-role="button" class="nav-button" data-click="submit_form">Save</a>
Here $(this) will give u only the button element. The easy way to do this is use the built in MVVM feature in Kendo UI Mobile. create an model as JS object and set data-model attribute of your view as this object. Now on click of the submit button, just send this object to your server using ajax. This way u are reducing the amount of data sent to the server.
Documentation on mobile and mVVM integration: http://docs.kendoui.com/getting-started/mobile/mvvm .
I have used a PageMethod previously.
http://encosia.com/using-jquery-to-directly-call-aspnet-ajax-page-methods/
Would something like this help your cause?
Let's take an example of such a method in the code behind:
[WebMethod]
public static string MyMethod(string Id)
{
return string.Format("Thanks for calling me with id: " + Id);
}
Things to note: the method must be static and decorated with the [WebMethod] attribute.
And on the client side you could invoke this method using the jQuery.ajax() function like this:
$.ajax({
url: 'default.aspx/MyMethod',
type: 'POST',
contentType: 'application/json; charset=utf-8',
data: JSON.stringify({ ID : ID }),
success: function (result) {
alert(result.d);
}
});
Make sure that in your WebForm you have actually added reference to the jQuery library before using it.
For example:
<script src="//ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.9.0/jquery.min.js" type="text/javascript"></script>
need a little help. My jQuery was going smooth today until I hit a wall. I am trying to have multiple forms (individual line items) editable on the fly via AJAX, with a text submission link or some kind of submit button. Problem is, I can get it to submit the form via the AJAX, but without any of the data from the form... i.e. hit submit, it sends the request, but no querystring. Can someone please help me identify what's missing?
Here is my jquery:
$('.submitLineChanges').click(function() {
var formID = $(this).closest('form').attr('ID')
datastring = $(formID).serialize();
$.ajax({
type:'POST',
url: 'update_ajax.asp',
data: datastring,
success: function(response) {
alert("Success " + id)
//$('#ContactForm').find('.form_result').html(response);
}//end ajax options
});//end ajax
return false;
});//end of click function
And my form:
<form id="line-item-<%= intRecID %>-form" class="submitLineForm">
<input type="hidden" name="UpdateLineItem" value="true" />
<span class="edit" id="edit-line-<%= intRecID %>" style="display: none;">
<span class="quantity"><input name="part_qty" id="part_qty_<%= intRecID %>" type="text" value="<%=FormatNumber(rs("quote_part_qty"),0)%>"></span>
<span class="partno"><input name="part_no" id="part_no_<%= intRecID %>" type="text" value="<%=rs("quote_part_id")%>"></span>
<span class="descrip"><Textarea name="part_descrip" type="text" id="descrip<%= intRecID %>" rows="3"><%=rs("quote_part_descrip")%></Textarea></span>
<span class="sellprice">$<input name="part_sale" id="part_sale_<%= intRecID %>" type="text" value="<%=FormatNumber(rs("quote_part_sale"),2)%>"></span>
<span class="margin" id="emargin_<%= intRecID %>"><%=margin%></span>
<span class="cost"><strong>Cost: </strong>$<input name="part_cost" id="part_cost_<%= intRecID %>" type="text" value="<%=FormatNumber(cost,2)%>"></span>
<span class="wt"><strong>Weight: </strong><input name="part_wt" id="part_wt_<%= intRecID %>" type="text" value="<%=FormatNumber(rs("quote_part_wt"),2)%>"></span>
<span class="update"><input type="button" value="Save Changes" class="submitLineChanges" /></span>
</span>
</form>
As you should be able to tell, I'm running this in ASP. The form is for each line item in a cart basically. Because of the nature of the page, I don't want to have a separate page to edit all the info. It seems this should work, but its likely I'm missing something through the tunnel vision I'm in now.
I should note, the form is for each line, I don't need it to submit all the forms, just the one.
Thanks
Change
datastring = $(formID).serialize();
to
var datastring = $('#' + formID).serialize();
You need to use a # prefix using the ID selector. Also - without the var keyword you polluting the global namespace for no reason.
Or even better ... you could replace
var formID = $(this).closest('form').attr('ID');
var datastring = $('#' + formID).serialize();
with
var datastring = $(this).closest('form').serialize();
Which finds the form and serialises it all in one go !!
Thanks to #MikeBrant for that suggestion.
I am trying to make a form submit through ajax and the JsHelper from CakePHP 1.3
I try to make a call to /eng/feedbacks/submit_feedback but instead in the console, i see a post to http://lang/eng/pa/homepage instead. The result returned is another instance of that page, rather than anything else.
This seems to be irrelevant to whether such submit_feedback exists or not. I have started that action with die("test"); and it doesn't change anything.
why is that, what is going on?
the form is in my layout (as i want it to be in my footer). Runs when the url is /eng/pa/homepage
Form code:
echo $this->Form->create('Feedback', array('url'=>array( 'controller'=>'feedbacks', 'action'=>'submit_feedback')));
echo $this->Form->input('Feedback.content', array('label'=>false, 'type'=>'textarea'));
echo $this->Js->submit('Save', array('class'=>'button blue',
'before'=>$this->Js->get('#sending')->effect('fadeIn'),
'success'=>$this->Js->Get('#sending')->effect('fadeOut'),
'update'=>'#success'
));
echo $this->Form->end();?>
<div id="success">xx</div>
In that #success DIV i get a related full page, rather than what I have defined in the controller action
Controller method:
function submit_feedback(){
if(!empty($this->data)){
$this->Feedback->set($this->data);
if($this->Feedback->validates()){
if($this->Feedback->save($this->data)){
// AJAX
if($this->RequestHandler->isAjax()){
$this->render('/feedbacks/success', 'ajax');
}else{
die('not ajax');
}
}
}
}
}
And the success template is:
<p style="background: lightgreen">Purple cow!</p>
What am i doing wrong?
NOTE: If I run the same form from the /eng/feedbacks/submit_feedback page, It works exactly as it should through ajax, and my database gets updated, i get the necessary 'success' template loaded and all is shiny and happy.
UPDATE: FORM SOURCE COUDE GENERATED:
<form accept-charset="utf-8" action="/eng/feedbacks/submit_feedback" method="post" id="FeedbackReadForm">
<div style="display: none;">
<input type="hidden" value="POST" name="_method">
</div>
<input type="hidden" id="FeedbackUserId" value="141" name="data[Feedback][user_id]">
<div class="input radio">
<input type="hidden" value="" id="FeedbackType_" name="data[Feedback][type]">
<input type="radio" value="suggestion" id="FeedbackTypeSuggestion" name="data[Feedback][type]">
<label for="FeedbackTypeSuggestion">Suggestion</label>
<input type="radio" value="problem" id="FeedbackTypeProblem" name="data[Feedback][type]">
<label for="FeedbackTypeProblem">Poblem</label>
<input type="radio" value="opinion" id="FeedbackTypeOpinion" name="data[Feedback][type]">
<label for="FeedbackTypeOpinion">Other Opinion</label>
</div>
<div class="input textarea">
<textarea id="FeedbackContent" rows="6" cols="30" name="data[Feedback][content]"></textarea>
</div>
<div style="margin-top: 17px; margin-right: 50px;" class="right">
<a onclick="javascript: closeFeedbackPuller(); return false;" href="#">Cancel</a>
</div>
<div class="submit">
<input type="submit" value="Save" id="submit-396027771" class="button blue">
</div>
</form>
UPDATE 2: JS generated:
$(document).ready(function () {
$("#submit-396027771").bind("click", function (event) {
$.ajax({
beforeSend:function (XMLHttpRequest) {
$("#sending").fadeIn();
},
data:$("#submit-396027771").closest("form").serialize(),
dataType:"html",
success:function (data, textStatus) {
$("#sending").fadeOut();
$("#success").html(data);
},
type:"post",
url:"\/eng\/pa\/homepage"
});
return false;
});
});
I see that the url is wrong, even thought the form url was right. How can this be resolved?
echo $this->Js->submit('Save', array('class'=>'button blue',
'before'=>$this->Js->get('#sending')->effect('fadeIn'),
'success'=>$this->Js->Get('#sending')->effect('fadeOut'),
'url' => '/eng/feedbacks/submit_feedback',
'update'=>'#success'
));
That may fix your problem, but I am not 100% sure. It seems that the Js->submit() method accepts a lot of the Form helper methods.
