Does anyone have any tutorials on how to setup SQLCipher for Mono for android in visual studio 2010?
If so could you share it with me and possibly show how you would create and connect to an encrypted SQLite database including Connection String?

I am hoping to work with Xamarin for a project, primarily to learn a little about cross-platform app development, and would prefer to stick to developing on Linux. This led me to attempt to work with the JetBrains Rider IDE, something that I believed to be fairly well documented, as per these resources:

I've been able to install everything just fine, Android Studio and Rider were installed via JetBrains Toolbox (I also tried installing Rider manually, but it made no change), and I am able to create the project and configure the Android settings for the Xamarin project.
This is where my luck ends, since despite trying the various resources I've linked above, including reinstalling mono and dotnet-sdk multiple times, I get this error no matter what I try:
Xamarin SDK was not found: Rider was unable to find Xamarin SDK on
this machine. Xamarin-based projects will not be loaded. Please
install Xamarin SDK or change toolset.
I've tried following the instructions both on a manually installed Rider 2019.1.3 (Build #RD-191.7141.460) and Rider 2019.2 EAP (Build #RD-192.5895.291).
I'm fairly new to the world of Xamarin, so I'm not sure where to begin looking. What exactly is the Xamarin SDK (is it just Xamarin.Android?), and what should I be checking my setup for in order for Rider to detect the Xamarin SDK?
It appears that what Rider installs via its Environment page, is only the Xamarin Android package. Not the actually Android Studio SDK, which is needed to develop any android apps. You have to download that separately.
Some developers have told me about it's possible to create iOS projects in Microsoft Visual Studio thanks to an Xcode plugin.
However, I can't find the proper way to install it, I already have tried to download it from here and I installed it but it doesn't appear when I try to create a new project.
So, if anyone can tell me the steps I have to follow in order to install the plugin properly, it would great.

The xcode build tool you're trying to use has still a lot of issues and only few workflows are being implemented and supported. I suggest that if you wanted to create cross platform application and would like to use Visual studio code IDE then i suggest on using Xamarin its code base is c#. If you're using a mac computer then why not use xcode and if you're a windows user and wanted to create iOS apps then xamarin would be the best choice for you or unless you want to try frameworks like ionic etc. I hope i was able to help.Also , I can't comment because of still low repu , so I decided to post this as answer.
I'm a seasoned c# developer on Windows but have recently bought my first Macbook and have decided to do some c# development on Mac. I've downloaded and installed Xcode, MonoMac and MonoDevelop (Xamarin Studio 5.5.4). Some of the project templates seem to be missing (mac unified template being one). Can anyone point me to any resources to get me started with the classic template or instructions on how to get all the templates, or even alternative development environments for c# development on Mac ?
As mentioned on the website, the unified templates are not include in the stable version yet. So, you need to switch to the alpha channel to have access the the Unified API. Read more about this here: http://developer.xamarin.com/guides/cross-platform/macios/updating_mac_apps/

I am trying to install the MVVMCross.HotTuna.StarterPack on my Xamarin (Mac) Solution using the NuGet, but i ain't successful. The package was installed in the Xamarin.Android project successfully but while i try the same to do with the iOS and PCL project, it doesn't add. Any Idea on whats going wrong? Thanks!
That nuget package requires nuget 2.5 which isn't yet finished/released for Xamarin Studio - track https://github.com/mrward/monodevelop-nuget-addin/issues/13 for updates
It will also probably require fixes from Xamarin - they've not yet released PCL support, but it is in development. You can ask their forum and/or support for updates on this.
In the meantime:

For Xamarin.Mac/MonoMac support, there's no PCL support currently available - so the only way to get this working currently is to fork the MvvmCross solution and to compile the PCL libraries for the appropriate Mac project. I would like to know if it is possible to compile a Monotouch project that does not have any reference to any UI library in Visual Studio. This project only use the Monotouch framework.
I have done some research and I read that, if the project don't have any reference to the Apple SDK , I should be able to build a MonoTouch project using Visual Studio. If I can, do i need some particular configuration to achive my goal.

Even if your project doesn't have any references to MonoTouch libraries, it is still a MonoTouch library project. Visual studio doesn't recognize that project type and because of that you can't really compile the code.

There is a Visual Studio addin that may help. It hasn't been updated in a while though. Also, this would only help you write the code. To compile and run the code, you will still need MonoTouch and a Mac. https://github.com/follesoe/VSMonoTouch
Update : As of February, 2013 Xamarin includes Visual Studio support for developing iOS apps in their Business sku of Xamarin.iOS. You can fully develop on Windows + Visual Studio, but still need a Mac on your network to perform builds and run the simulator.
If you're talking about building a DLL or library in VS.NET that you could then use in a MonoTouch project, I believe the answer is NO. To be usable in MT, the code has to be compiled with MT.
The MonoDevAssist VS extension (search VS Extension Manager for "monotouch") seems to work perfectly. There are just a couple of easy steps to follow post-installation, which are documented here:
