Recently I've been tasked with standardizing the company signature for all employees. Outlook 2003/2007/2010 and figured in place of manually typing in and making changes for 200 employee's, it would make more sense to pull the data from our Active Directory and generate the signatures.
Getting in the info is easy.
Assigning the newly generated signature as the default is not. How can I tell Outlook to use the newly generated default signature?
For the HTML signature, can I use standard HTML or do I need to keep all of that Word HTML garbage?
How are you deploying the signature, a login script?
You can set the default signature in the registry, there're many guides on this on google. Under:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0/12.0/14.0\Common\MailSettings
Make an expanded string called NewSignature and assign the value of the signatures name.
To set the reply/forward signature you create an expanded string named ReplySignature
You can also think about using GPOs to make these registry changes, also there's an existing policy were you can choose what the signature should be standardlized in, HTML/RTF or TXT. This can also be set using the registry.

We have an add in that works with user properties set as Outlook.OlUserPropertyType.olInteger
I have been asked to integrate that with MSGraph.
According to this post if user properties are created in a VSTO add in this can be accessed through MS Graph but how can I go the other way? I need to use Outlook extended properties but I am not sure how
So far I am not sure how to add extended properties and how to pick them up in a VSTO add in
You need to use the GUID for dealing with user properties. See How do I retrieve Extended Properties from a Calendar Event using MS Graph? for more information. For example:
https://graph.microsoft.com/v1.0/me/events('AAMkADU4MzkxN2RmLTdiZDAtNDIwYS04NjQzLTUzNzMyMjM0Y2VkNQBGAAAAAABGjw0ByCaySL6aUxJmew3qBwDwiT27qO5xT6RMWiWBhwRzAAAADIqqAAAYpSJ8f1CATrNsRrtUbquzAAEOAONsAAA=')?$expand=singleValueExtendedProperties($filter=id%20eq%20'String%20{00020329-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}%20Name%20MyCustomData')
User properties are twofold: their definition is stored in a special blob (you can see its definition in MFCMAPI or OutlookSpy (I am its author) - click IMessage button) and their value is stored as a regular named MAPI property (see the OutlookSpy screenshot in Eugene's answer). The blob format is documented, but parsing or (even worse) creating it is a major pain. If you don't need the property to be present in the MailItem.UserProperties collection, you can read or set its value using MailItem.PropertyAccessor.GetProperty/SetProperty by the property DSL name (also shown by OutlookSpy). To read or set the value using Graph, you can use the link in your question.
I want to create a straightforward extension for Firefox.
User hovers over some word on any page
Pull the dictionary definition of that word from a file inside the extension
Display it while still hovered
I am new to Firefox add-ons and WebExtensions, so here's what I'm wondering:
I want the dictionary file(s) used by the extension to be local, instead of referring to some online website each time.
Any given user might be interested in a different part of the entire dictionary (it contains entries in different languages, users might only want their own 1 or 2 languages) so I want to avoid forcing every user to download the entire dictionary base.
The way I have seen similar add-ons handle that before Firefox 5.* is that they offer the search-and-display add-on separately from the dictionary files which are each available as add-ons in their own right, only actually doing stuff if you have the master add-on installed.
However, none of those examples seem to have been updated for the WebExtensions API and do not support more recent versions of Firefox.
I have also been unable to find how to communicate between web extensions so far.
My question being, how can I share information between 2 or more coorperating extensions to achieve what I described.
And actually, if this seems really stupid for some reason I'm unaware of, do point out any more reasonable alternatives that allow me to handle the dictionary files separately from the main extension.
Possibly related questions I found:
Communicating between 2 Firefox Add-Ons (Cross-Extension Communication)
This one is from 2010 however, thus out of date as far as I could tell.
Mozilla Addon Development - Communicating between windows with different domains
Kind of a similar situation, but they want to pull the definitions from an online source, rather than a local one.
The closest thing I found on the Mozilla browser extension website is communicating between add-on and some native applications, not quite what I need I think.
Communicating between add-ons is a normal part of the functionality of runtime.sendMessage(), runtime.connect(), runtime.onMessage, and runtime.onConnect.
Both runtime.sendMessage() and runtime.connect() have as their optional first parameter:
extensionId
For runtime.sendMessage(), this is:
string. The ID of the extension to send the message to. Include this to send the message to a different extension. If the intended recipient has set an ID explicitly using the applications key in manifest.json, then extensionId should have that value. Otherwise it should have the ID that was generated for the intended recipient.
If extensionId is omitted, the message will be sent to your own extension.
For runtime.connect(), this is:
string. The ID of the extension to connect to. If the target has set an ID explicitly using the applications key in manifest.json, then extensionId should have that value. Otherwise it should be have the ID that was generated for the target.
Both runtime.onMessage, and runtime.onConnect provide a sender property or parameter, either with the message, or as part of the port. This parameter/property is a runtime.MessageSender which includes an id property which is:
id
string. The ID of the extension that sent the message, if the message was sent by an extension. If the sender set an ID explicitly using the applications key in manifest.json, then id will have this value. Otherwise it will have the ID that was generated for the sender.
Note that in Firefox, before version 54, this value was the extension's internal ID (that is, the UUID that appears in the extension's URL).
How do I run/call/kickoff an external program (custom code) whenever certain attributes or objects are added or modified in OpenDJ’s database?
Here is my real world need. (Feel free to change my thought direction entirely).
Whenever a new email address gets created or changed in the OpenDJ database I want to initiate some java code that does some email verification/validation (send the “click here” link with a token to prove the user owns the email they just signed up with).
I know, I could use OpenIDM/AM to accomplish this but to take this a step further I need to validate other information and other credentials (custom) which users supply that are not supported by OpenIDM/AM suites.
Initiating/calling custom code upon ADD or MODIFY of specific objects and attributes is what I want and would like to know how to accomplish this. Preferably without having to scrape logs.
Please Help.
Chad
OpenDJ has a plugin interface where you can plug Java calls on Add or Modify. A sample of this kind of plugin is the attribute uniqueness which verifies that some attributes have a unique value in the directory.
The plugin interface javadoc can be found here : http://docs.forgerock.org/en/opendj/2.6.0/javadoc/org/opends/server/api/plugin/DirectoryServerPlugin.html
I am working on a simple portal application using the ASP.NET membership and login controls. I would like to use the PasswordRecovery control to send emails containing forgotten passwords, however my portal requires localization. I have an existing Content Management System that I am pulling the localized strings out of and I would like to link the PasswordRecovery control to that system.
But, it appears that the PasswordRecovery control will ONLY accept a .txt file for the email body...the property is PasswordRecovery1.MailDefinition.BodyFileName
I do not want to use a file on disk, I would like to use the localized content in my CMS.
Is there any way to do this? It occurred to me that I might be able to use the SendingMail event to send my OWN email through the normal System.Net namespace, but that seems sorta cludgy...
Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Max
Try handling the SendingMail event of the PasswordRecovery control. In that event, set the e.Message.Body and e.Message.Subject properties to your localized text.
Found this by googling "BodyFileName localization":
http://forums.asp.net/t/1118242.aspx:
Just bind the property to a key in
your page's localresource file. The
page's local resource file is the file
located in a subdirectory called
app_localresources in your page's
directory. Just use visual studio's
"tools -> create local resource"
option in design view for it be
created for you.
In that file, create a string
key/value pair with something like
Name: myBodyFileName
Value: myDefaultBodyFile.txt
Then bind this to the BodyFileName
property of the login control with
something like
'>
Then just create the sattelite local
resource files for other cultures and
map that key/value pair in those
resources to other body text files.
By the way, if you used visual studio
to create the resource file for you,
then the binding may have been done
for you automatticaly. Just search for
a
"MyChangePasswordControlResource1.BodyFileName"
key in the resource file or something
similar.

How would you suggest working with files that is stored on the note of a entity in Crm. Could you write a generic method that will enable you to access any type of file? Or would it be better to have a method for dealing with each type of file?
For example, we are going to be saving a mix of swf files and xml files on the entity, so would it make sense to have a method each for example:
GetXmlFilesOnAccount(accountid)
GetSwfFilesOnAccount(accountid)
When you upload an attachment to CRM the mimetype is also saved as part of the record information.
The following link contains a nice example of how to download the attachemt using a single method. http://crmscape.blogspot.com/2009/10/ms-crm-40-sending-attachments-to.html
The post is missing the actual query needed to retrieve the annotations but you can tell what columns are required from the method signature.
My suggestion using your methods:
* GetXmlFilesOnAccount(accountid)
* GetSwfFilesOnAccount(accountid)
Retrieve account activitypointers by regardingobjectid(in your case accountid guid)
Loop through returned activitypointers
Get attachments for each activitypointer (activitypointer.activityid = activitymimeattachment.activityid)
Store attachments (disk, etc)
You don't even need two methods. You can retrieve all attachment file types for a given note (annotation) with a single method.
Hope this helps.
I recently started an Open Source Project on CodePlex to accomplish exactly that. Feel free to check out the Project's Web Page at:
http://crmattachdownload.codeplex.com/
You can also view the source code under the "Source Code" tab of that same page.
