I made a project on one particular machine which works just fine, but when I try to run it over a network (as an .exe and by opening the project itself) it flashes for a second and then returns to it's default state. In VS C# it doesn't even turn on a window. This only happens for some projects though, others can run on any machine I want. Recreating the entire project fixes this issue, but I hope this isn't the best solution out there :).

I need some help. I have put in dozens of hours into a VB.NET project, it has been built in release mode and distributed. Now I have to make some changes to it, and I am unable to debug it properly. My code changes result in behavior where my code is not even recognized.
Also, I installed Visual Studio 2013 recently (moving from 2010), but this project behaves the same in both environments.
I believe that my code has become 'optimized'. The error window tells me that code is being skipped over, and that my code is optimized and JIT is checked.
I have turned off JIT, and I have tried everything to make this project work again that I could think of. I am desperately wanting to know how I can get this project to be in a state where it will debug each line of code again when I make changes.
I can even purposely write bad code, and the debugger does not see it.
This project is now in debug mode, not release. I have checked and followed threads on every thing that other people have done to solve this issue, but nothing works for me.
Either my project launches and works properly as it is coded, or if I change any code only the form launches with no code being run - at all.
please help.
I finally figured it out. The applications that I was struggling with were all built in Visual Studio 2010 on Windows 10. I was trying to work with these in Visual Studio 2013 on Windows 7.
Once I tried to work with them on Windows 10 (visual Studio 2013 this time), they started working and debugging just fine.
I think it may have been DLL assembly paths? Took me more than a week, but I figured out my issue by moving from Win7x64 to Win10x64.
We're working with a solution which has multiple projects which references NuGet packages from other solutions.
Every time we do get latest from the TFS server on the solution, Visual Studio (2015) starts reloading each project in the solution which takes a really long time. Now this wasn't always the case, since this started happening only a few weeks back (the solution is a year old).
We have other solutions which were already experiencing this problem and our solution is to close the solution, then do get latest, then reload the project which is much, much faster.
Can anybody explain why this is happening and how to fix this issue?
This has been reported as a bug to MSFT, see Slow project reloading & Reload of projects is slow after call to TFS to get latest changeset. It seems your project files are updated from outside VS, which causes VS to load all them. More details please see the reply from VS IDE team:
Main culprit is, your project files are being updated from outside
VS, which causes VS to load each of them one by one. This is
extremely taxing process and it happens on the main UI thread. Hence,
this ASL logic is on-by-default to alleviate unresponsive solution
loads. Essentially, you’re pointing out a limitation in our ASL logic
that we hadn’t considered. This will be considered for a future
release, thank you.
In the meantime, one way to mitigate the problem would be to force
solution reload by touching the solution file, the *.sln file, which
will trigger ASL to kick in, basically VS thinking you’re doing full
solution load and it will optimize responsiveness time as much as
possible.

Please try these steps:
Open Visual Studio installer and install the most recent available update for 2017 version.
Open %localappdata%/Microsoft/Team Foundation/7.0/cache and delete all files, then restart Visual Studio and retry.
I don't know when this started, but I discovered that Visual Studio 2013 Update 5 aborts when attempting to open properties for a project within a solution. It seems to only happen when we have more than one project in the solution.
I've been able to reproduce it in two circumstances:
The first project is C++ and the second project is Fortran. Right-clicking on the first project and selecting Properties crashes Visual Studio without a crash dump or any kind of pop-up notification. Visual Studio just ceases to exist. Right-clicking on the Fortran project brings up the property sheet without any problem.
The second circumstance is with two projects, both C++. In this case, I'm able to open properties successfully for the first project, but not for the second one.
In every case I've tried where there's a one-to-one solution and project, it's working fine. A colleague who's working with VS 2013 Update 4 verified that the crash occurs for him as well.
We don't know when this started, but historically, we've opened these property sheets many, many times. However, it's probably been a few months since I've worked on a mixed-language process, and same with my colleague.
I've turned on logging and there was a complaint in the log about two versions of the Desktop SDK having the same internal ID. I removed one of those altogether, but that didn't seem to affect anything. It's also not clear if that error has any relationship to the crash.
I've also done a repair on Visual Studio, and that did not correct the problem.
I've also tried deleting the .suo and .user files. Again, no luck.
I've done quite a bit of googling but haven't found anything that matches this specific problem.
Any ideas?
Thank you,
Doug
I'm working on a Project (c#) and have the following problem when debugging a succesfull build.
When putting breakpoints in the Source Code or pausing the execution of the application
strange things happen...
I'm using the "Local" Tab at the bottom to check and control the values in the objects and variables, but the output at this position looks like a mess ^^
Actually i tried almost everything i know to change and setup the configuration of the Visual Studio.
I also tried to start a new c# project and repair and reinstall the VS and so on.
But nothing really worked.
But on an other PC and working with the same VS-Edition and the same Project, everything is fine.
attached there are two screenshots of the failure... so i need your help.. any ideas..?
correct one:

Strange Visual Studio (TS 2008) problem: The IDE completely freezes whenever I switch from Release to Debug mode in a specific project. It happens right as I switch, before I try to build or do anything else.
The whole thing started out of the blue, without any abnormal change I can think of.
I tried to clean the solution, but it didn't help.
Anyone ran into this before?
If everything has worked fine and then stopped, usually it means there was some problem even though it had passed unnoticed.
Things I would try one after another:
Check which files were changed (why and how) after update from a source control engine
Review the list of extensions and plugins. Try to disable all or some of them
Close Visual Studio and kill all the development processes: devenv, mspdbsrv, vcpkgsrv, msbuild, msvsmon, vshub, vstest etc
Remove .suo, .ncb, .VC.db, .VC.VC.opendb files of the solution as well as .vs directory, which sometimes cause problems
Remove project setting files, sort of YourProjectName.vcproj.DOMAINNAME.LOGINNAME.user or YourProjectName.csproj.user. The setting file name depends on a project kind you use
Run "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio [vs_version]\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /setup or "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio [vs_version]\Common7\IDE\devenv.exe" /setup for x64 environment
In some complex cases, it helps to remove user settings, located in home %USERPROFILE%\AppData\[Local|Roaming]\Microsoft\VisualStudio[vs_version] and in registry HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio[vs_version]
It should reset all things to the beginning state. If it won't work, so there are additional tools to investigate. Download Process Explorer and once IDE freezes, start the Process Explorer, find the devenv process, double-click on it and go to Threads tab. Check, which thread has the biggest switch delta in case of the freeze, double-click on it and take the name (or offset) of the top function. It gives additional info where the problem may be.
Moreover, sometimes it helps to repair Visual Studio in the "Add or Remove Programs" wizard in Control Panel.
Had this problem in 2017. I ran VS 2017 as Administrator and it worked.
I've encountered this in VS 2017 (15.8). Upgrade to the newest version (15.9 at that time) resolved the issue.
VS seems to be doing a lot behind the scenes and putting project-specific files in App Data and who knows where else. I had this experience: I had a project which had two sets of identical code in two different directories: one for production, one for development. The development project started hanging on debug, the production did not. Tried all kind of settings and deleting .suo files, but no help. So I renamed the directory that the development version was in and presto, eveything worked without hanging.
In my particular case, I tried many other answers with no luck. It turned out that a call to this was hanging the debugger:
Log4NetExtensions.AssertFail("Error");
I managed to narrow it down to this line of code by bring up the threads window under [ Debug > Windows > Threads ] and clicking on the current thread to browse to the line of code it was hanging on.
