Linq assign values from one table into another - linq

I am trying to lookup a value of an column from another table and later use the new looked up values in my where clause. For example, I have the following tables below
ID Name
1 Jan
2 Feb
3 March
Product Customer Start End
A C Feb March
A B Jan March
B C March Jan
In the example above, I need to query for the list of records where Start ID is greater than the End ID. For example, B-C-March-Jan is the record I am looking for.
Should I be using join? Also, if possible a query syntax would be very helpful.
My query:
var vInvalidStartEnd = from p in vRecords
where (from t in vTimePeriods where t.Name == p["Start"] select t.TID).First().Cast<int>() > (from t in vTimePeriods where t.TName == p["End"] select t.ID).First().Cast<int>()
select new
{
Product = p["Product"],
Location = p["Location"],
Start = p["Start"],
End = p["End"]
};
Thanks

Assuming ID defines what name is later than another. Tim's issue in comments is probably because, first, it's unusual to use the name value as your link instead of the ID, and second, ID is a poor indication of which month is greater than another. If I had to use month names the way you are, I would probably have an id, a name, and then an order value in the vTimePeriods table.
from p in vRecords
join start in vTimePeriods on p["Start"] equals start["Name"]
join end in vTimePeriods on p["End"] equals end["Name"]
where (int)end["ID"] < (int)start["ID"]
select new
{
Product = p["Product"],
Location = p["Location"],
Start = p["Start"],
End = p["End"]
};
I don't know the specifics of Linq to Dataset, but it would look something like that.

Oracle Apex get Multiple results from checkboxes

DB = Oracle 11g
Apex = 4.2.6
In the form I have various items which all work great. However I now have a set of check boxes(:P14_DAYS) one for each day of the week.
What I need to do is get all records between :P14_START_DATE :P14_END_DATE, but only within the days select that's checked.
Below is also a sample of the DATE_SETS table
http://i.stack.imgur.com/YAckN.png
so for example
dates 01-AUG-14 - 5-AUG-14 But only require Sundays AND Mondays date would bring back 2 refs.
BEGIN
UPDATE MD_TS_DETAIL
SET job_for = :P14_JOBFORTEM,
job_type_id = :P14_JOB_TYPE_VALUE,
account_id = :P14_ACC_VAL,
qty = :P14_HRS,
rio = :P14_RIO,
post_code = :P14_POSTCODE
WHERE id IN (SELECT D.id
FROM MD_TS_MAST M
LEFT JOIN MD_TS_DETAIL D
ON M.mast_id = D.md_id
LEFT JOIN DATE_SETS
ON ms_date = dt
WHERE eng_id = :P14_ENG_VAL
AND ms_date BETWEEN :P14_START_DATE AND :P14_END_DATE
AND DATE_SETS.col_day = ANY instr(':'||:P14_DAYS||':',Return)
END;
Any help would be much appreciated .
I found this example: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B31036_01/doc/appdev.22/b28839/check_box.htm#CHDBGDJH
As I can understand, when you choose some values in your checkbox list, item :P14_DAYS receives value, that contains return values of chosen elements of the LOV with delimiters. Then you need to replace this string in your query
AND DATE_SETS.col_day = ANY instr(':'||:P14_DAYS||':',Return)
with
AND instr(':'||:P14_DAYS||':', ':'||DATE_SETS.col_day||':') > 0
Here function instr searches substring DATE_SETS.col_day in string :P14_DAYS. It returns position of substring if substring was found or 0, if not found. Then you compare result of function with 0, and if result > 0, it means that DATE_SETS.col_day is among selected values.

Entity Framework returns wrong data after execution of two similar queries

I have two similar queries, the first one:
var activatedSerialNumbers = (from activation in entities.Activations
where !canceledActivationsIds.Contains(activation.Id)
where activation.CustomerId == customerId
join licenseConfiguration in entities.LicenseConfigurations
on activation.Id equals licenseConfiguration.ActivationId
where licenseConfiguration.ProductId == productId
join activatedSerialNumber in entities.ActivatedSerialNumbers
on activation.Id equals activatedSerialNumber.ActivationId
where deactivatedSams.All(dsn => dsn.ToLower() !=
activatedSerialNumber.Name.ToLower())
select new SamWithLicense
{
Name = activatedSerialNumber.Name,
Features = licenseConfiguration.LicenseFeatures
}).ToList();
The second:
var activationsForSam = (from activation in entities.Activations
where !canceledActivationsIds.Contains(activation.Id)
where activation.CustomerId == customerId
let activatedSerialNumbers = activation.ActivatedSerialNumbers
.Select(sn => sn.Name.ToLower())
where activatedSerialNumbers.Contains(loweredSn)
join licenseConfiguration in entities.LicenseConfigurations
on activation.Id equals activatedProduct.ActivationId
select new SamWithLicense
{
Name = selectedSerialNumber,
Features = licenseConfiguration.LicenseFeatures
}).ToList();
In some situations I execute them one after another and in most cases it works fine, but somethimes - not. In the result of second query Counter takes from another row:
Visual Studio - Quick watch
SQL Management Studio
I guess it's a matter of a EF cache or smth, but don't know how to fix it properly.
In your first query you are joining the Activation Id (PK) to LicenseConfigurations ActivationId (FK)
join licenseConfiguration in entities.LicenseConfigurations
on activation.Id equals licenseConfiguration.ActivationId
in your second query, it looks like you are joining on a value defined outside of the query "activatedProduct"
join licenseConfiguration in entities.LicenseConfigurations
on activation.Id equals activatedProduct.ActivationId

LINQ - How to select and count the right results

I have 3 tables: DiaryPosts, DiaryImpressions, Impressions.
Impressions is a small list with some fields: 'like', 'dislike', 'agree', 'disagree'. The user can vote according to what he thinks about the post.
DiaryImpressions is the table that handles the relationship between the posts and the users who vote.
My problem is, I have to count results of each impression vote for each post, so maybe for one post 13 users voted for like, 2 for dislike, 34 agree and 1 disagree.
I have no idea how to perform the query in some way I can get this specific count results for each impression.
Can anyone help me with that?
You can do this via the GroupBy method. It allows you to automatically "group" the elements based on the impression, and count the results per group.
var post(from c in posts selec c)
string post1like;
string post2dislike;
string postagree3;
string postdisagree3;
foreach (var item in posts)
{
var ipressionslike=(from c in imressions where impressioid=item.id where c.impressionID='LIKE' select c.userID).Tolist()
var ipressionsdislike=(from c in imressions where impressioid=item.id where c.impressionID='disLIKE' select c.userID).Tolist()
var ipressionslike=(from c in imressions where impressioid=item.id where c.impressionID='LIKE' select c.userID).Tolist()
var ipressionsagree=(from c in imressions where impressioid=item.id where c.impressionID='disLIKE' select c.userID).Tolist()
post1like+=item.id+""+ipressionsdislike.count;
post2dislike+=item.id+""+ipressionslike.count;
postagree3+=item.id+""+ipressionsagree.count;
}
it should count the impressions for each post and count the amount of users that like or dislike so if you have 30 people dislike for each post it should get them I cannot see your table structure but I hope it will help or point you somewhere
I have to guess but here is what I think the SQL would look like:
SELECT I.Name, COUNT(I.Name)
FROM DairyPosts P
JOIN DairyImpressions DI ON P.ID=DI.DairyID
JOIN Impressions I ON DI.ImpressionsID = I.ID
And what the linq would look like:
List<Dairy> dairyposts = GetDairyPosts();
var impressionCounts =
from p in dairyposts
group p by p.ImpressionName into g
select new { Type = g.Key, ImpressionCount = g.Count() };
Of course I have to assume your list is created a certain way, if you can post how your list is actually created that would help. (As I said in the comments)

How do I retrieve only certain subobjects in LINQ?

I have an entity object (Company) which has 1 or more subobjects (CompanyRevision) represented as a non-null FK relationship in the database.
Using LINQ, I want to get all the Companies from the database, but I also only want the latest CompanyRevision for each company.
This is how I do it today, but I have a feeling this could be done using one query.
IEnumerable<Company> companyList = from p in ctx.Company.Include("CompanyRevisions")
select p;
foreach(Company c in companyList)
{
CompanyRevision cr = (from p in c.CompanyRevisions
orderby p.Timestamp descending
select p).First();
// Do something with c and cr...
}
As you can see, I would like to add this second LINQ query (the one that gets the latest CompanyRevision) into the first one, so that companyList[i].CompanyRevisions is basicly a list with just one entry (the latest one). I can't for the life of my figure out how to do this. Please help!
Thanks in advance
how about this: mixing the linq language and extension methods:
var results = from p in ctx.Company.Include("CompanyRevisions")
select new {Company = p,
Revision = p.CompanyRevisions.OrderByDescending(cr => cr.Timestamp).First()
}
Each result now has a Company and Revision member.
It's possible that you could also do this -
var results = from p in ctx.Company.Include("CompanyRevisions")
select new {Company = p,
Revision = (from pcr in p.CompanyRevisions
orderby pcr.Timestamp descending
select pcr).First()
}
To give the same results.
Although that's a guess - I haven't labbed that one out; but it's how I would try it first.

Stuck on a subquery that is grouping, in Linq`

I have some Linq code and it's working fine. It's a query that has a subquery in the Where clause. This subquery is doing a groupby. Works great.
The problem is that I don't know how to grab one of the results from the subquery out of the subquery into the parent.
Frst, here's the code. After that, I'll expplain what piece of data i'm wanting to extract.
var results = (from a in db.tblProducts
where (from r in db.tblReviews
where r.IdUserModified == 1
group r by
new
{
r.tblAddress.IdProductCode_Alpha,
r.tblAddress.IdProductCode_Beta,
r.tblAddress.IdProductCode_Gamma
}
into productGroup
orderby productGroup.Count() descending
select
new
{
productGroup.Key.IdProductCode_Alpha,
productGroup.Key.IdProductCode_Beta,
productGroup.Key.IdProductCode_Gamma,
ReviewCount = productGroup.Count()
}).Take(3)
.Any(
r =>
r.IdProductCode_Alpha== a.IdProductCode_Alpha&&
r.IdProductCode_Beta== a.IdProductCode_Beta&&
r.IdProductCode_Gamma== a.IdProductCode_Gamma)
where a.ProductFirstName == ""
select new {a.IdProduct, a.FullName}).ToList();
Ok. I've changed some field and tables names to protect the innocent. :)
See this last line :-
select new {a.IdProduct, a.FullName}).ToList();
I wish to include in that the ReviewCount (from the subquery). I'm jus not sure how.
To help understand the problem, this is what the data looks like.
Sub Query
IdProductCode_Alpha = 1, IdProductCode_Beta = 2, IdProductCode_Gamma = 3, ReviewCount = 10
... row 2 ...
... row 3 ...
Parent Query
IdProduct = 69, FullName = 'Jon Skeet's Wonder Balm'
So the subquery grabs the actual data i need. The parent query determines the correct product, based on the subquery filters.
EDIT 1: Schema
tblProducts
IdProductCode
FullName
ProductFirstName
tblReviews (each product has zero to many reviews)
IdProduct
IdProductCode_Alpha (can be null)
IdProductCode_Beta (can be null)
IdProductCode_Gamma (can be null)
IdPerson
So i'm trying to find the top 3 products a person has done reviews on.
The linq works perfectly... except i just don't know how to include the COUNT in the parent query (ie. pull that result from the subquery).
Cheers :)
Got it myself. Take note of the double from at the start of the query, then the Any() being replaced by a Where() clause.
var results = (from a in db.tblProducts
from g in (
from r in db.tblReviews
where r.IdUserModified == 1
group r by
new
{
r.tblAddress.IdProductCode_Alpha,
r.tblAddress.IdProductCode_Beta,
r.tblAddress.IdProductCode_Gamma
}
into productGroup
orderby productGroup.Count() descending
select
new
{
productGroup.Key.IdProductCode_Alpha,
productGroup.Key.IdProductCode_Beta,
productGroup.Key.IdProductCode_Gamma,
ReviewCount = productGroup.Count()
})
.Take(3)
Where(g.IdProductCode_Alpha== a.IdProductCode_Alpha&&
g.IdProductCode_Beta== a.IdProductCode_Beta&&
g.IdProductCode_Gamma== a.IdProductCode_Gamma)
where a.ProductFirstName == ""
select new {a.IdProduct, a.FullName, g.ReviewCount}).ToList();
While I don't understand LINQ completely, but wouldn't the JOIN work?
I know my answer doesn't help but it looks like you need a JOIN with the inner table(?).
I agree with shahkalpesh, both about the schema and the join.
You should be able to refactor...
r => r.IdProductCode_Alpha == a.IdProductCode_Alpha &&
r.IdProductCode_Beta == a.IdProductCode_Beta &&
r.IdProductCode_Gamma == a.IdProductCode_Gamma
into an inner join with tblProducts.
