joomla + not render a module - joomla

I have developed a module for joomla 2.5 and it works just fine, the thing is I don't want it to be rendered when a certain view of a component is displayed but that view is not a menu link so I can't tell my module not to render when I don't want it to.

Two possibilities:
Assign that view to a menu item in a menu that is never shown. You can than hide the module as usual.
Since you have a custom module you could modify the module to check for the component and view and not render itself in certain cases.

One issue that you might have with "check for the component and view and not render itself in certain cases" is that if the module is in a module position that is supposed to "collapse" when there are no modules in it (e.g. a right or left column), it won't collapse because the module is still assigned (even though it's not rendering anything).
The issue is to do with where the decision is made to display the module. Is it a question of the module itself deciding when to render, or should the logic be somewhere else, that determines "on this page, should a particular module appear?". I suggest the latter.
A good solution for this is MetaMod Pro that allows you to build in conditions that determine whether other modules should appear on the page. You then put in a snippet of PHP to do the detection.
So the snippet might be:
if (! ($option == 'com_mycomponent' and $view == 'myview') ) return XXX;
// replace XXX with the module id of the module you want to disappear.
i.e. "if we're not on a page with mycomponent and myview, show module XXX".
Tip: the Pro version will allow the module to completely disappear if it's not included. The free version may leave some HTML behind.

Show specific presenter instance to flex panel gwt mvp

I'm still learning GWT, yet already have to face some kind of challenge for a work I have to do. Can't show any specific code so I'll try to explain it well.
Here's the situation: A certain class "Navigator" creates and save the Presenter instances of my architecture to allow reusing them. There is a method show() inside that same class that actually displays the view related but that system only works full screen by calling RootPanel.get().
What i'd like to do is showing that presenter instance's view inside of a flex panel element declared in a class myView (related to a class myPresenter) that basically uses Flex Panel to structure it's content.
To make it maybe more clear:
class myView{
...
flexPanel.setWidget(firstWIdget)
flexPanel.setWidget(secondWidget) //secondWidget to be replaced by a "thirdWidget"
...
}
I'd like the secondWidget to be replaced by another one, let's call it thirdWidget, that consists of a specific presenter instance's view.
To resume, I'd like my presenter instance's view to not go full screen but only occupy a certain area of the screen.
The displaying is managed almost entirely programmatically, means very limited use of css files and no use at all of xml ui files.
How can I manage this ?
Thanks
Use a SimplePanel as a container for your views returned by your Navigation class instead of adding them directly to root panel, and use that instance of SimplePanel where ever you want.

Link directly to a notebook page in a view

I have an view that extends the current project view, where we add multiple tabs (notebook pages) to show information from other parts of a project.
One of these pages is an overview page that summarizes what is under the other tabs, and I'd like to link the headlines for each section directly to each displayed page. I've currently solved this by using the index of each tab and calling bootstrap's .tab('show') method on the link within the tab:
$(".overview-link").click(function (e) {
e.preventDefault();
var sel = '.nav-tabs a:eq(' + $(this).data('tab-index') + ')';
$(sel).tab('show');
});
This works since I've attached a data-tab-index="<int>" to each header link in my widget code, but it's brittle - if someone adds a tab later, the current indices will be broken. Earlier I relied on the anchor on each tab, but that broke as well (and would probably break if a new notebook page were inserted as well).
Triggering a web client redirect / form link directly works, but I want to show a specific page in the view:
this.do_action({
type: 'ir.actions.act_window',
res_model: 'my.model.name',
res_id: 'my.object.id',
view_mode: 'form',
view_type: 'form',
views: [[false, 'form']],
target: 'current'
});
Is there any way to link / redirect the web client directly to a specific notebook page tab through the do_action method or similar on FormWidget?
If I understood well you want to select the tab from the JavaScript (jQuery) FormWidget taking into account that the id could change if anybody install another module that adds another tab
Solution 0
You can add a class to the page in the xml form view. You can use the id of the element selected by this class name in order to call the right anchor and select the right tab item. This should happen when the page is completely loaded:
<page class="nb_page_to_select">
$('a[href=#' + $('.nb_page_to_select').attr('id') + ']').click()
NOTE: As you have said the following paragrah I assume that you know where to run this instruction. The solution I suggest is independent of the index.
This works since I've attached a data-tab-index="<int>" to each
header link in my widget code, but it's brittle - if someone adds a
tab later, the current indices will be broken. Earlier I relied on the
anchor on each tab, but that broke as well (and would probably break
if a new notebook page were inserted as well).
Solution 1
When the page is loaded you can get the tab list DOM object like this:
var tablist = $('ul[role="tablist"]')
And then you can click on the specifict tab, selecing by the text inside the anchor. So you don't depend on the tab index:
tablist.find('a:contains("Other Information")').click()
I think if you have two tabs with the same text does not make any sense, so this should be sufficient.
Solution 2
Even if you want to be more specific you can add a class to the notebook to make sure you are in the correct notebook
<notebook class="nt_to_change">
Now you can use one of this expressions in order to select the tab list
var tablist = $('div.nt_to_change ul.nav-tabs[role="tablist"]')
// or
var tablist = $('div.nt_to_change ul[role="tablist"]')
Solution 3
If the contains selector doesn't convince you because it should be equal you can do this as well to compare and filter
tablist.find('a').filter(function() {
return $.trim($(this).text()) === "Other Information";
}).click();
Where "Other Information" is the string of the notebook page
I didn't tried the solution I'm giving to you, but if it doesn't work at least may be it makes you come up with some idea.
There's a parameter for XML elements named autofocus (for buttons and fields is default_focus and takes 1 or 0 as value). If you add autofocus="autofocus" to a page in XML, this page will be the displayed one when you open the view.
So, you can try to add this through JavaScript, when the user clicks on the respective link -which honestly, I don't know how to achieve that by now-. But you can add a distinctive context parameter to each link in XML, for example context="{'page_to_display': 'page x'}". When you click on the link, I hope these context keys will arrive to your JS method.
If not, you can also modify the fields_view_get method (here I wrote how to do that: Odoo - Hide button for specific user) to check if you get the context you've added to your links and add the autofocus parameter to the respective page.
As you said:
This works since I've attached a data-tab-index="" to each header
link in my widget code, but it's brittle - if someone adds a tab
later, the current indices will be broken.
I assume that your app allow multi-user interaction in realtime, so you have to integrate somewhere in your code, an update part function.
This function will trig if something has changed and cleanout the data to rebuilt the index in order to avoid that the current indices will be broken.

Including Joomla! 3 module in custom position on custom component

I've seen alot of examples of how to include modules on a custom joomla! component using JModuleHelper::getModules, however, when trying to include modules in a custom position, the array come back empty. Here's my code in my component's template:
<?php
jimport('joomla.application.module.helper');
$modules = JModuleHelper::getModules('comwhcustomer');
foreach ($modules as $module){
echo JModuleHelper::renderModule($module);
}
?>
You'll notice the position I'm passing the getModules function is comwhcustomer. This code is returning a blank array. If I pass "footer", I do successfully get the module in the footer position.
I'm using an adapted protostar tempalte and I have added the comwhcustomer position to the xml definition file for the template. I've created the module in module manager and in the position filed, I've selected the "comwhcustomer" position that shows up in the dropdown. On the modules manager page, I see the module listed in the position selected (comwhcustomer). I've confirmed in the database table #__modules that the position is saved correctly.
However, the array is still coming back empty on the getModules call. What am I missing?
Joomla version 3.4.1
Local environment
Windows IIS
PHP 5.4.24
MySQL db
PS - As an alternative, I have sucessfully loaded the module with JModuleHelper::getModule() however, none of the attributes I define in the module manager come over, because they're not supposed to. I'd like to use the method mentioned above so I can control the module behavior from the manager rather than attributes in the code, because this position will be used in multiple views of this component.
This is my first time posting to SO. I do appreciate the support :-)
itoctopus, you were exactly right! The module itself was not assigned to any pages, that's the piece I was not taking into consideration! Thank you so much for your help! I set it to display on all pages and it worked!
Of course, it doesn't show up on all the other pages because they do not contain a position called "comwhcustomer" so it is exactly what I was looking for!

AJAX Page Loader navigation bar

My site is:
http://econrespuestas.com.ar
And i'm having trouble with AJAX page loader integration. When you click on a link in "secondary-menu", it adds it the "current-menu-item" class, but it doesn't remove de "current-menu-item" class from the other ones.
I'm trying to do it with this code:
// highlight the current menu item
jQuery('secondary-menu li').each(function() {
jQuery('thiss').removeClass('current-menu-item');
});
jQuery(thiss).parents('li').addClass('current-menu-item');
but it isn't working. There must be something wrong with the removeClass selector. Could you help me?
Firstly, thiss doesn't exist (unless declared somewhere else). It must be this. In addition try something more like...
jQuery('.current-menu-item').removeClass('current-menu-item');
jQuery(this).parents('li').addClass('current-menu-item');
This is saying "Remove the class current-menu-item from any objects with the class current-menu-item, then add the class current-menu-item to the parent li of the clicked item"
In addition, make sure that in your CSS, .current-menu-item{...} appears after any styling for the non-currently selected item.
See Fiddle: http://jsfiddle.net/6hR9K/2/
Also, unless you have a specific conflict with using the $ sign in place of jQuery, I suggest doing exactly that.
$('.current-menu-item').removeClass('current-menu-item');
$(this).parents('li').addClass('current-menu-item');

Joomla: How to change template on a specific article

Is there a way to change the template on a specific article only?
Note that it should work without linking the article to any menu.
If you want the template override not to depend on the menu position than the standard joomla way of assigning a different template to a menu will not work. You will need to get your hands dirty and write some custom code. You will need to use the article_id as a trigger for template switch.
I did something like that at work but don't remember now how exactly this is achieved. I will post my code here as soon as I locate it.
EDIT: Found the code :)
You need to edit the file /includes/application.php, specifically the getTemplate() method. At the end of this method, just before:
// Fallback template
if (!file_exists(JPATH_THEMES.DS.$template.DS.'index.php')) {
$template = 'rhuk_milkyway';
}
you can add your condition for applying a custom template, like so:
//CUSTOM TEMPLATE FOR THE ARTICLE 13
if (JRequest::getVar('id')=='13' && JRequest::getVar('option')=='com_content') {
$template = $custom_template_name;
}
This will apply the custom template which name is inside the $custom_template_name to article with id=13. You can also use it to apply a different template to components, like I did with simplecaddy:
//TEMPLATE FOR SIMPLECADDY
if (JRequest::getVar('option')=='com_caddy'){
$template = 'shop';
}
You should really try to stay away from hard coding anything in to the template if it can be avoided. Not sure why you would specify that the article not be linked from a menu. The easiest way to accomplish this without having to write and code is to create a new menu, then add a menu item that links to the article you want to specify the template for. You don't have to put the menu in a module anywhere so it will never show up on the site, but it will show up in the menu assignment in the template manager.
You can do this with single articles, categories, sections, or even components. As long as you have a menu link to associate the template to. I always create an Admin only menu to put links that are needed to run the site, but do not need to be accessed by users.
As Brent said, avoid the temptation to modify core Joomla code! Doing this will likely stop you from doing Joomla upgrades 'cos you know it's going to break the core changes that you made.
Apart from the "hidden menu item" technique (which is useful but can break SEF URLs in some situations), a useful tool is Chameleon. This allows you to select specific articles/categories/sections (plus things like browser type, user group, component, whatever) and use these to trigger a certain template.
Though this is an old post, I thought I'd share my thoughts: You can easily change template on a single article, by implementing the onAfterInitialize() - function in a system plugin. No need to modify the Joomla core.
This works for Joomla 1.5, but should also work in 2.5:
function onAfterInitialise(){
if(true){ // f.ex. test for article ID or whatever
JRequest::setVar('template', 'beez'); // change template
}
}
In joomla 3.x versions, url-parameters are handled differently. The following was tested in joomla 3.4.8:
public function onAfterInitialise()
{
$app=JFactory::getApplication();
if(true){ // f.ex. test for article ID or whatever
$app->input->set('template', 'beez3');
}
}
