I have a few jars in my WEB-INF/lib folder and when I try to do a vmc push the application fails to deploy. After looking into the Tomcat logs I saw a ClassNotFoundException and it refers to one of the classes in my jar files. I can see the jar file in my local folder together with the class file in it, but when I browse the micro cloud folders I do not see some of the jar files

The problem was resolved when I removed the app and did one more push. BTW this was after I restarted the VM.

I don't see this in the CDH4 docs, but under CDH3u3 you had to copy the hadoop-core libray into <oozie-home>/lib. That jar contains the missing class from your stack trace.
Edit:
For the life of me, I can't find this in the docs anywhere for cdh3u3, either. So, I copied it and other jars I needed, but I don't remember where I read this.
Moved to Spring 3.1.1 from Spring 3.0.5 now my App does not work can someone please tell me what is up? I removed all the 3.0.5 jars and added the 3.1.1 jars

Have you done what it suggests and verified that spring-ldap is included with your app? That's clearly where the class in question lives. My guess is that you blindly removed all the jars named spring-* and added in all the 3.1 spring-* jar files, but spring-ldap isn't included with the base spring 3.1 distro. In fact, its versioning is completely separate, and it's presently at version 1.3.1.
I have just installed tomcat through the ubuntu package manager. I open the log and the first thing I see is an interesting exception.

It looks like Tomcat is trying to deploy a web app that relies on Spring ASM but it can't find the JAR file for Spring ASM on the classpath. I'm not sure what version of Spring your web app is using, but the latest version (as of today) for that JAR file is 3.1.0.RELEASE.
If you're using Maven, you can add the missing JAR file to your project by adding this to your project's pom.xml:

<groupId>org.springframework</groupId>
<artifactId>org.springframework.asm</artifactId>
<version>3.1.0.RELEASE</version>
</dependency>
If you're not using Maven to manage your dependencies, then you can obtain org.springframework.asm-3.1.0.RELEASE.jar (or whichever version you need) by downloading
the entire Spring Framework from http://www.springsource.org/spring-community-download. The ASM jar file will then need to be placed in your project's WEB-INF/lib folder.
The common approach to handle this situation
1) establish what jar library contains missing classs.
2) check, that this jar presents in your classpath
This error most possibly comes from the entries that you have in the web.xml. For example if you have this - org.springframework.web.servlet.DispatcherServlet. !! So when tomcat starts, load-on-startup tries to find out the spring asm context, but probably deployment assemblyis missing the maven dependency jar (although the jar is available) To resolve this try setting up the below
**Basiaclly In project options you should include Maven Dependencies to your Deployment Assembly**
1. Project properties-> Deployment Assembly -> Add..
2. Java Build Path Entries -> Maven Dependencies
3. Finish
Run mavem clean install and run on server. The error should go away.
In my case, the problem was in 2 versions of Java installed on computer: Java 7 and Java 8. Unisntalling Java 7 solved problem.

I dont think its an issue with missing jar files or classpath issues because it works fine without the bean properties specified in the xml file.
I am not sure why this is happening so any help will be appreciated.
You are probably missing the org.springframework.web.servlet jar if your're using spring 3.0, or the spring-webmvc jar (should be in \dist\modules\ in the spring 2.5 distribution) if you're using 2.5
I am in the process of switching from a Windows box to Ubunutu and I want to run my own local instance of Tomcat 6. I have installed Tomcat 6 without any basic issues. When I try to deploy a .war file that I had running on the Tomcat 6 instance on my Windows box I am getting the following error....

The class that is not being found is located at /WEB-INF/classes/com/ameren/eam/ldap/LdapDAONovellImpl.class relative to /WEB-INF/applicationContext.xml. I cannot figure out why it cannot find the class? Any ideas would be great.
Assuming you are using the stock Ubuntu Tomcat, everything is locked down by the security manager by default. Suggest you read this page:
http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/security-manager-howto.html
and get a grasp on how it works. You'll need to make changes to $CATALINA_BASE/conf/catalina.policy file, granting access where your webapp is located on the filesystem.
