I can install capybara-webkit on Mac, when I deployed code on Ubuntu, I am facing below error
Gem::Installer::ExtensionBuildError: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.

Make sure that `gem install capybara-webkit -v '0.12.1'` succeeds before bundling.
Even I tried with sudo gem install capybara-webkit -v '0.12.1'
I am getting same error.
Install libqt4-dev and it will fix your problem
sudo apt-get install libqt4-dev
read this one for more information.
Please let me know if you have still problem on this
capybara-webkit depends on a WebKit implementation from Qt, a cross-platform development toolkit. You'll need to download the Qt libraries to build and install the gem. capybara-webkit 0.12.x depends on Qt >= 4.6 and capybara-webkit 0.13+ depends on Qt >= 4.7. You can check your version of Qt by running qmake -v.
If you get an error when building, along the lines of fatal error: QObject: No such file or directory, you might be attempting the build against Qt3. Either uninstall Qt3, or make sure that the qmake in your PATH links to Qt4. ...more
For those getting this error on Mac, try this:
brew update
brew install qt
bundle

I got this error while installing Jekyll on Linux (Mint 17, which is based on Ubuntu 14.04).
I eventually found the solution here. I needed both the ruby-dev package and nodejs (the latter due to a bug in Jekyll).
sudo apt-get install ruby ruby-dev make
sudo gem install jekyll --no-rdoc --no-ri
sudo apt-get install nodejs
I ran into this problem too. Running the following installed Jekyll for me:
$ \curl -L https://get.rvm.io | bash -s stable --rails --autolibs=enabled
$ sudo gem install jekyll
This installs RVM, updates Rails and installs Jekyll.
BTW - Most of the posts I've found indicate it's a problem with Xcode not having the developer tools installed. I have a newer MacBook Pro on which this stuff was installed by default, so attempting to install the Xcode dev tools did nothing for me (unlike the above, which did everything I needed).
try
gem update
then
gem install jekyll
And you may want to try with Ruby 1.9.3 and compatible DevKit.
I'm attempting to install compass on SUSE Enterprise 11 SP3. I get the following. Any ideas?

zypper in ruby-devel
It works for me. And if you also miss gcc, then
zypper in gcc
For those with similar issues I got this working by.
Uninsalling ruby and rvm
Building zlib from source with the shared option
./configure --shared
make
make install
I did the same for Ruby and that worked.
I could not get any RPM, Zypper, RVM installers to install properly. In each case they all seemed to have issues with zlib ?
You are possibly missing gcc. Try installing it with zypper (or yum), and then try installing your gems:
zypper in gcc
I keep hitting an error when running $ Bundle Install
An error occurred while installing capybara-webkit (0.12.1), and

Is there a way to bypass this gem and continue with the install?
Thank you!
If capybara-webkit is dependency of one of your other gems, you can't bypass installing it, since another gem requires it to function. Otherwise, just remove / comment it out in your Gemfile.
According to capybara-webkit Github page you've gotta setup Qt first before installing:
capybara-webkit depends on a WebKit implementation from Qt, a cross-platform development toolkit. You'll need to download the Qt libraries to build and install the gem. You can find instructions for downloading and installing QT on the capybara-webkit wiki. capybara-webkit requires Qt version 4.8.
Here is the error message:
Gem::Installer::ExtensionBuildError: ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.
/usr/local/bin/ruby extconf.rb
Gem files will remain installed in /var/www/app_dir/shared/bundle/ruby/1.8/gems/bson_ext-1.7.0 for inspection.
Results logged to /var/www/app_dir/shared/bundle/ruby/1.8/gems/bson_ext-1.7.0/ext/cbson/gem_make.out
An error occured while installing bson_ext (1.7.0), and Bundler cannot continue.
Make sure that `gem install bson_ext -v '1.7.0'` succeeds before bundling.
I tried running gem install bson_ext -v '1.7.0' and this succeeded with no errors. I've tried installing ruby-dev and ruby1.8-dev apt packages and this did not help.
bundle install is able to successfully build bson_ext on my Mac OS X development system but is failing in the Linux production environment even when I run it directly outside of the context of the capistrano bundle:install task.
I have also tried running gem update --system and gem update bundler and this didn't help.
I suspect the issue lies in how bundle install is called on the target system. Still, I tried updating Capistrano to version 2.13.5 and this did not help.
So, it appears that bundler 1.2.1 is is unable to build the following gems on my system:
bson_ext 1.7.0
curb 0.8.3
nokogiri 1.5.5
json 1.7.5
therubyracer 0.8.2.
I was able to build these using gem install <GEMNAME> -v '<VERSION>' --install-dir /var/www/<APP_DIR>/shared/bundle/ruby/1.8/. After this, running bundle exec capistrano deploy succeeded.
bundle does not appear to be able to build gems with native extensions on my system. Not sure why, but maybe this procedure will help those with a similar issue.
gem install fastthread -v1.0.7

This is what I got when I tried installing from fastthread to set up SUP mail client on my system . How to get rid of this error?
Install these and then try re-installing:
sudo apt-get install ruby1.8-dev
Try this link http://kenno.wordpress.com/2009/07/25/fixed-extconf-rb8in-require-no-such-file-to-load-mkmf-loaderror/
I was getting this same error in OS X Lion. Having Xcode 4.3 installed doesn't cut it. You have to go to preferences in Xcode and install the command line tools, which installs the necessary compiler tools for doing native builds on the system. After I did this, then gem install fastthread worked for me.
Just to add to this, on debian and ubuntu the "complete" ruby package is this:
ruby1.8 ruby1.8-dev ri1.8 rdoc1.8 irb1.8 ruby1.8-elisp
ruby1.8-examples libdbm-ruby1.8 libgdbm-ruby1.8 libtcltk-ruby1.8
libopenssl-ruby1.8 libreadline-ruby1.8
So something like
sudo aptitude install ruby1.8 ruby1.8-dev ri1.8 rdoc1.8 irb1.8 ruby1.8-elisp ruby1.8-examples libdbm-ruby1.8 libgdbm-ruby1.8 libtcltk-ruby1.8 libopenssl-ruby1.8 libreadline-ruby1.8
Will save you a lot of time when doing bundle install on a large project.
