i convert a vs 2008 windows application to vs 2010 but when i am debug that project it builds successfully but it is not debugging.
this is the error message.
Right click on Project, "Use Custom web server" checkbox will be selected, select check box "Use local IIS web server". I resolved this issue with this and its working.

I just installed VS 2013, and I cannot find an option to use IIS express when I right click on the website project name.
Did this option get moved?
Without this option when I open an existing website, and run, I get 403.14 Forbidden error saying
HTTP Error 403.14 - Forbidden
The Web server is configured to not list the contents of this directory.
I'm new to visual studio 2013, would appreciate any help you can provide...
Open the Project Properties, and go to the Web tab. In the Servers section you should see a dropdown with three options: Local IIS, IIS Express, and External Host.
See Web Servers in Visual Studio for ASP.NET Web Projects for more information.
I cannot use VS2013 due to the fact that the "Visual Studio Development Server" option is missing. You can only use IIS Express, or an external host. When I use IIS Express, I get one of several errors when I launch a website with F5.
Failed to register URL "" for site "" application "/". Error description: Cannot create a file when that file already exists. (0x800700b7)
Cannot process request because the process (8204) has exited.
Neither of them make sense. I tried deleting all the configured sites in the IIS express config. I tried reinstalling IIS Express, Visual Studio. I don't see how the first error can occur. In all the demos I've seen, you can just hit F5 in VS and it works. This isn't the case here.
Right click on the Project in your solution and pick Properties.
Select web on the left side.
Choose IIS Express
Enter Project url
example:
https://localhost:44300
or you could check 'Override application root url' and type url like above
I have developed a website using Asp.Net MVC which uses a SQL CE database in the App_Data. The website when run in Visual Studio, runs fine. But, when i opened it as 'site from folder' in Microsoft WebMatix. It doesn't show anything. In IE it says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" and in chrome it says " Chrome could not connect to localhost:49742".
This happens on the url, where database access is performed. Basic pages work.
I tried opening other website(MvcMusicStore) using 'site from folder' and it works fine. Why does it happen in the above case when everything is similar. I cannot do the debugging since it is not happening in visual studio
It probably doesn't work because you don't have configured your site with IIS (or another webserver like Cassini).
Probably while in visual studio you have configured your project to use "visual studio development server" with "Auto-assign port". If yes, it's visual studio that starts your web server every time you press F5.
I have a project on vs 2010. I have tried to add project on windows server 2003 which has tfs 2010 installed. Later on I have switched to windows server 2008 and then installed tfs 2010 again. But I have changed server name.
Now, when I try to add project to tfs, I receive and error says that;
Team Foundation services are not available from server http://old server name:8080/tfs/. Technical information (for administrator): The remote name could not be resolved: 'old server name'
I have tried to add different projects but I havent received any errors. I am thinking problem is like, visual studio installed on my client computer has registered project with old server name and still tries the same server but team explorer can not find the server.
what shall I do?
PS: I am not tring to get my codes on old server. I did not use tfs, just wanted to learn it.
If you get the message when you open Visual Studio then you need to go to Team Explorer and click the "Connect to Team Project" button, then click on the "servers" button and remove the old server. If you need to you can also add the new server here.
If it's when you're opening the solution then you need to remove the Source Control bindings
open the solution and then go to "File", "Source Control", "Change Source Control" this will open up a screen where you can Unbind the Projects and Solutions from the old server.
My VS2010 debugger has stopped functioning suddenly today on my Dell M4500. I had reinstalled VS2008 SP1 last week, but the 2010 debugger ran fine since then, so I'm not sure its the culprit.
I can launch a project once just fine, & afterwards I get a message that reads "Unable to start debugging," without any error # or explanation of why. Doing IISRESET doesn't help, I get the same message until I close VS with the entire solution and reload it. Here are some things I've tried:
Verified I have the latest project files
Repair option for VS2010
Complete uninstall/reinstall VS2010
Replaced Web.config with known good copy
Added localhost to the list of trusted sites in IE
Performed \aspnet_regiis -i in the 2.0 & 4.0 directories
Through IIS Services Mgr -> Default Website:
verified Enable HTTP Keep-alives checked
placed check in Integrated Windows authentication
Ensured Debug on "Any CPU" is selected
Tried building to Platform targets "Any CPU," "x86" & "x64"
Added DisableLoopbackCheck registry key entry in
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
Tested under both IIS & VS Development web server
Does anybody have any suggestions I can also try? Any help is very greatly appreciated!
Just a side note. I got a similar error in VS2013 trying to attach to chrome the error was:
Unable to attach the application 'chrome.exe' using XXX The 32 bit
version of the visual studio remote debugging monitor (msvsmon.exe)
cannot be used to debug 64 bit processes or 64-bit dumps. Please use
the 64-bit version instead
I had to untick "Silverlight" in the web project Web section:
I received this same message, preventing my web project from running and opening in a browser. Turns out another developer had made a change in the project properties to "Use Custom Web Server" which pointed to an external URL instead of to the web server on my machine.
Try this:
Right-click your project in Solution Explorer - click Properties - click Web tab - under Servers click "Use Visual Studio Development Server". For reference the usual port value here is "Auto-assign Port". Best of luck.
Here's why I got this error.
In Debug properties, verify that Start external program is not empty.
VS 2010 will warn you about it being empty, but will let you save it
I was trying to switch it from IE to Chrome, lost track of changes I was making, and spent an hour trying to figure out where this error was coming from.
I had the same issue but it worked when I switch Build => Platform target from x64 to x86.
Kindly turned off Debug Edit and Continue option
Turn on vs2010, run debug.
turn off debug, shut down all lunched webServers (i had few of them for different services)
Turn off VS2010
Turn on VS2010.
After that everything works perfect.
