I have a trial version of the InstallSheild. It works perfectly fine on my Windows 7 machine. However uninstalling on other machine it fails to display the Final complete page(The last uninstall page)
To be clear it uninstall correctly but it just fails to show the completed page.
Are the other machine missing a component I need to package with the installer or is this a permissions problem?
You're question leaves out a few key details:
How are you invoking the uninstall?
What UI are you seeing?
Can we see the contents of your log?
In general, most people uninstall via Add Remove Programs aka Programs and Features. In this scenario Windows Installer only displays a progress bar and then exits as the UI sequence is bypassed per best practices.

Hope someone can help me here .
I have no further information other than that at a later stage in setup the whole process hangs showing install_confignonrc_cpu64
I am unable to cancel out of it even , the only way was to kill it .
Is there any solution for that ?
My problem was that the installer tries to download Microsoft R Open , if you have a slow connection you will see the installation freeze for a very long time without any progress bar updates or so .
I fixed the problem by deselecting all R components since i dont need them then the installation went smooth .
just had the same problem which is why I found this question.
Fixed the problem by closing the original media install menu window (where I'd selected "New SQL Server standalone" which is the first option).
The install window then carried on.
Just leave it "Stuck" - it is doing a Download in the background, I left the PC for a couple hours while doing some errands, and then..boom- All set.
I have faced same problem with you, the simple way that i have find is turn on Windows firewall then wait a minute after that it will auto complete setup success. Hope this work in your case .
Thanks,
Cuong.
Disable and stop the windows update service and then start the installation. After the installation is complete put the service back on.
SQL Install gets stuck on sqlrsconfigaction_install_confignonrc_cpu64 (SQL Server 2016 using standalone installer, also when installing on Azure VMs)
Resolution:
Stop the install (Taskman -> Kill Process)
Open regedit
Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\
Add New Key Called: AppCompat
You should have this once added:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\AppCompat
Add New DWORD entries as stated below to the AppCompat key:
DWORD: DisableEngine Value = 1
DWORD: DisablePCA Value = 1
DWORD: SbEnable Value = 0
Check the following location as the above key you added should also be here:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\
Restart the installation.
I closed everything and rebooted. Not sure if maybe having Visual Studio open or something else prevented it from installing, but it got stuck.
When I open WebMatrix it works without problem and shows the start page.
When I click 'My sites' and choose my site or choose My site by click 'Open'=> My site or create new site (and choose the site type: Empty, App Gallery or Template Gallery) WebMatrix crashes. Note: It crashes when it needs to show the site pages.
I tried to re-install WebMatrix but that didn't help. I also tried to change the Workspace(by clicking 'Options' on the start page).
When it crashes, I get the message 'Windows is looking for a solution to the problem.' (My computer isn't in English so that might not exactly be the words) and then I am asked if I want to close/debug the program. I click 'Debug' and choose Visual Studio. I don't know how to debug a program, but I tried and it says to me that:
System.NullReferenceException was unhandled
Message: An unhandled exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' occurred in Microsoft.WebMatrix.Core.dll
Additional information: Object reference not set to an instance of an object [-translated].
I have searched on the internet and here and I didn't find any solution to my problem.
Actual Answer
This bug is in the market for a time now. I have seen similar issue on another forum too, where the user was facing the same issue and same thing he tried but all in vain.
I think you need to wait for the next Update for your System, or try removing each and every component that WebMatrix installed, that means all the .NET Frameworks (4th version), Sql Dependencies Sql Server Ce, and all other files that were shipped along with WebMatrix to your computer. Remove them, and start the installing process once again freshly.
If nothing does the job, please uninstall WebMatrix 3 and install WebMatrix 2: Click here for link. I know it is awkward to go back a version, but you'll have to. Secondly you can mention this bug on their support/suggestion page. They would fix it.
http://webmatrix.uservoice.com/
I hope that would help you. And you'd be back in developing the apps :-)
Just for information
Secondly, do you understand what is meant by debug? Debugging is a method or process to remove the bugs from a software or an application etc. When you chose Visual Studio, it provided you or not provided you with the WebMatrix source code, I am not sure I never tried it. And you tried out debugging it. The exception is gave you, was a message saying that the parameter you're passing onto the next stage is a null. Which means it doesn't even exist and thus the value or the method cannot be executed and it breaks.
I get the infamous "Dialogs must be user-initiated" Security Exception when I try to print some stuff in Silverlight. As you can see, the dialog is as user-initiated as can be:
John Papa couldn't help me much out neither, because I don't have any breakpoint set. Mr MSDN thinks it could also be that I'm just taking too long, but this is a demo application just as simple as can be.
Any ideas? I guess it's a Visual Studio quirk, maybe some extensions interfering, as things seems to work when I launch the application outside of it. I first thought maybe the Code Contracts are interfering with their IL weaving, but they are deactivated for this project.
Update: This is just a simple Silverlight application that runs locally from the file system. When I do "Start debugging", Visual Studio creates a hosting HTML file containing the Silverlight app in the Debug resp. Release folder of the project, launches the Internet Explorer with that HTML file and attaches the debugger to it.
Update 2: I also get the same error when I create a web project to host the Silverlight app and create a virtual directory for it on IIS.
I might also want to add that I don't have problems with printing in other Silverlight projects regardless of their hosting scenarios.
Update 3: I downloaded FireFox and it works, I don't get the error when I debug with it. So it seems to have to do with my IE8. I uploaded the solution:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10401470/Code/Demos/PrintingDemo.zip
I wonder if anyone can reproduce?
Anyone got an idea to which team I should file a bug report? Silverlight team? IE team? VS Debugger team?
I'm able to reproduce this. You have handled the Click twice, once in XAML another time in code. See your MainPage.xaml

Don't feel bad about it. I did it last time through a misplaced Print inside a loop.
I've also experienced this strange behaviour. A standard button click event immediately invoking an OpenFileDialog. It would frequently generate the same error when being debugged but would eventually be coaxed in to working when the button is clicked several times.
However when built as a release (or perhaps simply by running the same Xap without a debugger attached to the browser) the problem would go away.
Try to remove
if(SightPaleceListBox.Items.Count > 0)
I had the same problem and found out that the reason was this following line:
cnvsMain.Children.Remove(PrintPagePlaceHolder);
cnvMain is on the page that the user pushed the Print button on (I was trying to remove it from that page in order to add it to the canvas that I was going to print).
My tip: try to comment rows one by one, until you find what row causes the problem. Than try to work around it.
I have a very simple VS2005 deployment project that aims to install for all users on a PC.
All the application files are written to %Program Files%\MyProg. A shortcut is created in the start menu and the startup folder. No registry settings or anything else are created. I have set
'InstallAllUsers' to true.
The created MSI runs fine and installs the software. It works without any problems when running under the user account from which it was installed.
When logging in as another user, the start menu and startup icons are present. It attempts to launch the application however an installation window pops up and states that 'the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.' The installer will only proceed if pointed to the original MSI file.
Why does this happen? I want my application to be installed completely for all users when it is installed by a single user.
edit: Solution
I was getting similar event log messages as shown on this page. In my case it turned out to be as simple as ensuring that the User's Program Menu had its 'AlwaysCreate' attribute turned to false. If it was true, windows would try and recreate the folder when a new user logged in. This somehow required the invocation of the installer and thus resulted in the 'please insert the installation media' prompts.
It is actually kind of hard to say without some more information. I would recommend checking on the rights in the installed folder (seeing if only the one who installed it has rights) and also checking the file list for the directory (to make sure VS didn't automatically place some files in the user profile). Let me know what comes out from those two steps and we can try to keep digging if that didn't shed any light on it.
Keep in mind chances are this is most def not specific to Visual Studio, look at this MS support article here where the same message is coming back for office.
I know this is an old post but I thought I'd add another cause and solution in case the above didn't work for you.
There is a bug in VS Setup and Deployment Projects which results in registry values being entered into HKCU instead of HKLM irrespective of the InstallAllUsers property being set to true.
You must use Orca msi editor to change the registry root for "DesktopFolder" and "ProgramMenuFolder" from either 1 or 2 to -1. The issue cannot be resolved via VS.

1.
I am using WiX for creating installer and would like to implement the following behaviour:
If a user launches msi installer for the product and the product already installed, then wizard works similar to pure (first time) installation with exception of some things (e.g. license aggrement screen is omitted). The wizard should allow for example to change installation folder, select whether to place desktop shortcut,...
I tried to do:
<Publish Event="ReinstallMode" Value="amus">INSTALL_MODE = "Change"</Publish>
<Publish Event="Reinstall" Value="ALL">INSTALL_MODE = "Change"</Publish>
But after installation completes: the product is in the same folder, where it was installed first time; desktop icon in the same state as it was after first time install.
MSDN says: "Do not attempt to change the target directory path if some components that use the path are already installed for the current user or for a different user".
Is there a way to re-install in another forlder and add/remove desktop icon in re-install?
2.
Is this normal to use the same KeyPath for some components?
For example the same registry values for DeskTop and Programs menu shortcuts? MSDN says: "Two components cannot share the same key path value". But compiling and verifying goes OK. And I did not discover problems using the same keypaths.
I'm not sure I understood your requirements correctly, but it seems the Major Upgrades cover the functionality you need.
Take a look at this ancient ;-), but still valuable blog entry by Rob Mensching. The KeyPath concept is clearly explained on an example there.
Hope this helps.
