how to make non-GUI MFC application? - visual-studio-2010

I did a project based on MFC, it has GUI of course. Now i need to change it to non-Gui. So, whenever i start build the project, it should run in the background rather to show GUI.
I hope my question is clear. Kindly suggest me . thanks

It's not the easiest thing to do as a retrofit. Easiest approach would be to make the UI hidden by using ShowWindow(SW_HIDE) on the main window (and any secondary windows and the equivalent for any other UI elements).

Why don't you simply create conslole application with MFC support and make it a Windows seervice?

how do I create a program in windows that can be activated by pressing short cut key instead of clicking?

I need to create a GUI working on windows that can be activated by pressing short cuts.
1. is it possible without setup class?
2. if not possible, just achieve pressing hotkeys and activate my program--how should i code it out--would be enough
thanks (I am using Qt for vs2012 add in to do the GUI)
I put some code up that starts a thread that does this. It is windows specific, but it does the job.
Clipboard Shortcut/Hotkey binding with Qt outside of application
One alternative to all of this, is to go to a shortcut to your program, go to its Properties, and then click on the shortcut area and type your desired shortcut. As long as it doesn't overlap with existing hotkeys that are registered in windows, it should work, without a hidden presence of your app in the system tray or some other background thread.
Hope that helps.
libqxt offers a QxtGlobalShortcut class that does what you want.

How to connect multiple windows in gtk+?

I have created a window in gtk+ .in this window i am displaying some text and have button"next" through which i want to move to next window and my previous window should disappear.my new window should display something say, text.
Can someone tell me how to implement this?
I am new to gtk+.
It seems you want to use GtkAssistant, which is a widget precisely for the kind of interaction you are looking for. Run gtk-demo in your system to check the example with the code. It is likely you have it installed.
Also, you can check the code online in Gtk+ repository. (Check the version you want to view, either for GTK+2 or GTK+3).

VS isolated shell creating custom document windows

I am trying to create custom document windows in VS isolated shell. What I hope to have is something similar to a ToolWindowPane where I can extend it for my custom tool windows and set the content to my custom user control. However, I am not sure if this is possible for VS document windows. I could not find any examples on how to extend the superclass WindowPane in order to create custom document windows that can be repeatedly created dynamically.
Any pointers or suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Edit: Or is there a way to prevent tool windows from restoring to its previous state on VS start? I basically want all of the tool windows to act like document windows and reset/delete themselves on close.
Edit2: Solved previous edit. Set transient flag to true, which prevents tool window from opening on IDE start.
Found work around here:

However, if anyone has solution on how to create a custom document pane, that'd be great. ToolWindowPane has several drawbacks that I would rather avoid.

Creating quick GUI front ends

I wanted to have a GUI front-end for a script that accepts numerous command-line options, most of them are UNIX paths. So I thought rather than typing them in (even with auto-completion) every time, I'd create a GUI front end which contains text boxes with buttons beside them, which when clicked will invoke the file browser dialogue. Later, I thought I'd extend this to other scripts which would sure require a different set of GUI elements. This made me think if there's any existing app that would let me create a GUI dialog, after parsing some kind of description of the items that I want that window should contain.
I know of programs like Zenity, but I think it's doesn't give me what I want. For example, if I were to use it for the first script, it'll end up flashing sequence of windows in succession rather than getting everything done from a single window.
So, basically I'm looking at some corss-platform program that lets me create a window from a text description, probably XML or the like. Please suggest.
Thanks

Mozilla's XUL is a cross platform application framework - . You could write an app as a Firefox plugin or a standalone XUL application.
mono and monodevelop could work for this. Or even something super simple like shoes.

Programmatically start application on login

What's the best way to programmatically start an application on login for Windows? I know you can do it by adding an item to the startup folder in the start menu, but I want to have an option in my application to turn it off and on.
This is how you could do it in C#:
Registry.SetValue(#"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run",
"MyStartUp",
#"C:\StartUpApp.exe");
You basically need to add a registry entry. The above one works on start-up. There are a few more. I recommend that you download a tool like Autoruns to see all possible locations.
How about installing your program as a Windows service? Services can be switched between 'disabled', 'manual' and 'automatic', and you can access services from within your code (even from a Java application) and manipulate its state.
Just a thought.
