I'm new to asp.net mvc3 and been reading to a lot of posts in stackoverflow on Chart for MVC3 razor.
However, i could not create a chart for this. Basically this is my sql query
SELECT COUNT(RequestStatus) AS Expr1, RequestStatus
FROM Request
GROUP BY RequestStatus
So far, in my control view, this is my code:
public ActionResult RequestReport()
{
var result = from p in db.Requests
group p by p.RequestStatus into pgroup
let count = pgroup.Count()
orderby count
select new { Count = count, RequestStatus = pgroup.Key }.ToString();
var x = new [] {result};
Chart chart = new Chart(600, 400)
.AddSeries(yValues: x , yFields:"Count")
.AddTitle("Request Statistic");
this.ViewBag.Chart = chart;
return View();
}
and
in View :
#ViewBag.Chart.Write()
please help me solve this issue. i could not find a simple tutorial for this.
ive made some changes on the code in controller.
using (var db = new ITAMMVCDBEntities())
{
var rs = db.Requests.GroupBy(o=>o.RequestStatus).ToList();
var result = from o in db.Requests
group o by o.RequestStatus
into g
select new
{
result = g.Count()
};
Chart chart = new Chart(600, 400)
.AddSeries(
xValue: rs.Select(x=>x.Key).ToArray() ,
yValues: result.ToArray()
)
.AddTitle("Request Statistic");
this.ViewBag.Chart = chart;
return View();
}
now i get this error msg when run
Series data points do not support values of type <>f__AnonymousType1`1[System.Int32] only values of these types can be used: Double, Decimal, Single, int, long, uint, ulong, String, DateTime, short, ushort.
i think my xValue is okay as it displays by group
but problem populationg yValue which will display the value of each group

I have a BIRT report, which simply selects all the columns of a table. Every time a new column is added to the table I have to modify the report to visualize the new column. Is it possible somehow to show the result of a "select * from table" query in the report, so I shouldn't modify the report template anymore? The order of columns is not important.
Thank You.
This is not directly possible.
However, using the DE API, you can create and save a new rptdesign file based on the query, then in a second step execute that report.
The example at https://www.eclipse.org/birt/documentation/integrating/deapi.php only shows how to create layout items, but you can as well create Data Sources and Data Sets.
This is a bit tricky however, so unless you need this quite often, it is not worth the effort.
Here is an excerpt from a script I am using in a file sql2rptdesign.rptdesign to create a new report design. This should give you an idea:
importPackage(Packages.org.eclipse.birt.data.engine.api);
importPackage(Packages.org.eclipse.birt.data.engine.core);
importPackage(Packages.org.eclipse.birt.report.model.api);
importPackage(Packages.org.eclipse.birt.report.model.api.elements.structures);
importPackage(Packages.org.eclipse.birt.report.model.api.util);
importPackage(Packages.org.eclipse.birt.data.engine.api.querydefn);
var engine = reportContext.getReportRunnable().getReportEngine();
var myconfig = reportContext.getReportRunnable().getReportEngine().getConfig();
var designFactory = designHandle.getElementFactory();
// Ein neues DataSet anlegen
var de = DataEngine.newDataEngine( myconfig, null );
var dsrc = reportContext.getDesignHandle().findDataSource("lisa");
var dsHandle = designFactory.newOdaDataSet("Main", "org.eclipse.birt.report.data.oda.jdbc.JdbcSelectDataSet" );
dsHandle.setDataSource(dsrc.getName());
dsHandle.setQueryText(sql);
designHandle.getDataSets( ).add( dsHandle );
Then I add the output columns (I parsed the SQL statement beforehand to get the necessary information). I don't know if this is strictly needed.
var numColumns = 0;
for (var position=0; position<rows.length; position++) {
var row = rows[position];
var colName = row[0];
if (colName == "__Template") {
continue;
}
var colTyp = row[1];
var colWidth = row[2];
var resultCol = new OdaResultSetColumn();
resultCol.setColumnName(colName);
resultCol.setNativeName(colName);
resultCol.setDataType(colTyp);
resultCol.setPosition(position+1);
numColumns = position + 1;
dsHandle.getPropertyHandle(DataSetHandle.RESULT_SET_PROP).addItem(resultCol);
var resultHint = new ColumnHint();
resultHint.setProperty(ColumnHint.COLUMN_NAME_MEMBER, colName);
dsHandle.getPropertyHandle(DataSetHandle.COLUMN_HINTS_PROP).addItem(resultHint);
}
And then add a table, its column bindings, columns, detail rows and cell contents to the layout. This is a bit lenghty.
// Tabellarisches Layout
var elementFactory = designHandle.getElementFactory();
var body = designHandle.getBody();
var tab = elementFactory.newTableItem("Main", numColumns);
tab.setDataSet(dsHandle);
tab.pageBreakInterval = 9999;
for (var colNum=0; colNum<numColumns; colNum++) {
var r = rows[colNum];
var colName = r[0];
var colNameSlashes = addSlashes(colName);
var colType = r[1];
var width = r[2];
var pattern = r[3];
var align = r[4];
// Binding
var colBinding = StructureFactory.createComputedColumn( );
colBinding.setName(colName);
colBinding.setExpression( 'dataSetRow[' + colNameSlashes + ']');
colBinding.setDataType(colType);
tab.addColumnBinding(colBinding, true);
// Überschrift
var textdata = elementFactory.newTextData(null);
textdata.setContentType("plain");
textdata.setValueExpr(colNameSlashes);
textdata.setStringProperty("whiteSpace", "normal");
tab.getLayoutModel().getCell(1,colNum+1).getContent().add(textdata);
// Wert
var textdata = elementFactory.newTextData(null);
textdata.setContentType("plain");
textdata.setHasExpression(true);
textdata.setStringProperty("whiteSpace", "normal");
var expr = 'row[' + colNameSlashes + ']';
textdata.setValueExpr(expr);
tab.getLayoutModel().getCell(2,colNum+1).getContent().add(textdata);
// Spaltenbreite und Ausrichtung
var columnHandle = tab.getColumns().get(colNum); // 0-basiert?
if (width) {
columnHandle.setProperty("width", StringUtil.parse(width));
}
}
body.add(tab, 0);
And finally save the new file:
designHandle.saveAs(designFilename);
However, this doesn't use a template as you would like to do.
I have the following query in LINQ as an example. Is it possible to save the results of the GetCalendarResources function so I wouldn't have to call it more than once? Thanks.
var query = from T in query2.AsEnumerable()
select new Event
{
resource = GetCalendarResources(T.eventID),
text = GetCalendarResources(T.eventID) + T.eventName
};
You can use the let keyword, which gives you the liberty to use its value for the next level:
var query = from T in query2.AsEnumerable()
let res= GetCalendarResources(T.eventID)
select new Event
{
resource =res,
text = res + T.eventName
};
Hello I'm trying to copy the following linq results to a datatable. The only examples I see of copytodatatable is using the query format, and not the extension methods. Wondering if anyone knows how to use it with the extension methods (I've tried casting the results to IEnumerable datarow but it didn't work).
DataTable dtItemPricingBreakDown =
SiteHelper.getItemPricingBreakDown(CustomerId,
PriceBookID,
deliveryZip,
dtItems,
db,
departmentId);
dtItemPricingBreakDown.AsEnumerable()
.GroupBy(i => new {
sku = i.Field<string>("sku"),
deptid = i.Field<int>("department_id")
})
.Select(group => new
{
sku = group.Key.sku,
deptid = group.Key.deptid,
cnt = group.Count()
});
Update
Better late than never, sorry for the delay in response. My actual issue appears to be for both the query syntax and the extension methods.
Something like this works according to msdn
(http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb386921(v=vs.110).aspx):
// Fill the DataSet.
DataSet ds = new DataSet();
ds.Locale = CultureInfo.InvariantCulture;
FillDataSet(ds);
DataTable orders = ds.Tables["SalesOrderHeader"];
DataTable details = ds.Tables["SalesOrderDetail"];
var query =
from order in orders.AsEnumerable()
join detail in details.AsEnumerable() on order.Field<int>("SalesOrderID") equals detail.Field<int>("SalesOrderID")
where order.Field<bool>("OnlineOrderFlag") == true
&& order.Field<DateTime>("OrderDate").Month == 8
select new
{
SalesOrderID = order.Field<int>("SalesOrderID"),
SalesOrderDetailID = detail.Field<int>("SalesOrderDetailID"),
OrderDate = order.Field<DateTime>("OrderDate"),
ProductID = detail.Field<int>("ProductID")
};
DataTable orderTable = query.CopyToDataTable();
But when I try this...
var query = from exx in dtItemPricingBreakDown.AsEnumerable()
group exx by new { sku = exx.Field<string>("sku"), companyId = exx.Field<int>("department_id") } into grp
select new { sku = grp.Key.sku, DepartmentID = grp.Key.companyId, Cnt = grp.Count() };
DataTable dt3 = query.CopyToDataTable();
I get this exception: "No implicit reference conversion from anonymoustype1 to system.data.datarow". I've tried doing what they did with the dataset in the msdn example as well and I still get the error. Extension method wise I was trying something like this...and still got the same exception.
DataTable dt3 = dtItemPricingBreakDown.AsEnumerable().GroupBy(i => new
{
sku = i.Field<string>("sku"),
deptid = i.Field<int>("department_id")
}).Select(group => new
{
sku = group.Key.sku,
DepartmentID = group.Key.deptid,
cnt = group.Count()
}).Cast<DataRow>().CopyToDataTable();
I have created a DataTable. I have populated the rows of the DataTable after some operations.
I am very new to Linq I want to Get the Top "N" Records from the DataTable implementing also some paging.
Let dataTable is the DataTable having some data.
I am need something like this
var Query = from d in dataTable
Order by columnName
skip( some records pageSize * pageNumber)
Select top N from dataTable
The column Name, Page size ,pageNumber and the N will passed as arguments
Try this:
var query = dataTable.AsEnumerable()
.OrderBy(c => c.columnName)
.Select(r => new {...})
.Skip(10)
.Take(5)
Try this,
int numberOfObjectsPerPage = 20;
var queryResultPage = dataTable.OrderBy(c => c.columnName).Select(r => r).Skip(numberOfObjectsPerPage * pageNumber).Take(numberOfObjectsPerPage);
Try this
var Query = dataTable.Select(o=>o).OrderBy(o=>o.columnName).Skip(pageSize * pageNumber).Take(N);
EDIT
For pass column name you should to add this code
public static IQueryable<T> OrderByField<T>(this IQueryable<T> q, string SortField, bool Ascending)
{
var param = Expression.Parameter(typeof(T), "p");
var prop = Expression.Property(param, SortField);
var exp = Expression.Lambda(prop, param);
string method = Ascending ? "OrderBy" : "OrderByDescending";
Type[] types = new Type[] { q.ElementType, exp.Body.Type };
var mce = Expression.Call(typeof(Queryable), method, types, q.Expression, exp);
return q.Provider.CreateQuery<T>(mce);
}
And then you could call it in this way
var values = dataTable.OrderByField("columnName");
I need to return a single instance of my viewmodel class from my repository in order to feed this into a strongly-typed view
In my repository, this works fine for a collection of viewmodel instances:
IEnumerable<PAWeb.Domain.Entities.Section> ISectionsRepository.GetSectionsByArea(int AreaId)
{
var _sections = from s in DataContext.Sections where s.AreaId == AreaId orderby s.Ordinal ascending select s;
return _sections.Select(x => new PAWeb.Domain.Entities.Section()
{
SectionId = x.SectionId,
Title = x.Title,
UrlTitle = x.UrlTitle,
NavTitle = x.NavTitle,
AreaId = x.AreaId,
Ordinal = x.Ordinal
}
);
}
But when I attempt to obtain a single entity, like this:
public PAWeb.Domain.Entities.Section GetSection(int SectionId)
{
var _section = from s in DataContext.Sections where s.SectionId == SectionId select s;
return _section.Select(x => new PAWeb.Domain.Entities.Section()
{
SectionId = x.SectionId,
Title = x.Title,
UrlTitle = x.UrlTitle,
NavTitle = x.NavTitle,
AreaId = x.AreaId,
Ordinal = x.Ordinal
}
);
}
I get
Error 1 Cannot implicitly convert type
'System.Linq.IQueryable<PAWeb.Domain.Entities.Section>' to
'PAWeb.Domain.Entities.Section'. An explicit conversion exists
(are you missing a cast?)"
This has got to be simple, but I'm new to c#, and I can't figure out the casting. I tried (PAWeb.Domain.Entities.Section) in various places, but no success. Can anyone help??
Your query is returning an IQueryable, which could have several items. For example, think of the difference between an Array or List of objects and a single object. It doesn't know how to convert the List to a single object, which one should it take? The first? The last?
You need to tell it specifically to only take one item.
e.g.
public PAWeb.Domain.Entities.Section GetSection(int SectionId)
{
var _section = from s in DataContext.Sections where s.SectionId == SectionId select s;
return _section.Select(x => new PAWeb.Domain.Entities.Section()
{
SectionId = x.SectionId,
Title = x.Title,
UrlTitle = x.UrlTitle,
NavTitle = x.NavTitle,
AreaId = x.AreaId,
Ordinal = x.Ordinal
}
).FirstOrDefault();
}
This will either return the first item, or null if there are no items that match your query. In your case that won't happen unless the table is empty since you don't have a where clause.
