Obfuscate Windows Phone 8 dll - windows-phone-7

I need to obfuscate a Windows Phone 8 dll.
I tried the "PreEmptive Dotfuscator" available in Visual Studio 2012. I added the .dll But it fails.
Is there any other free tool to obfuscate?
Thanks

You can try DeepSea Obfuscator (version over 4.3), which works fine for me.

WTL on Windows 10

Has anyone used WTL on Windows 10 already? All applications that I create with WTL segfault on Windows 10. They work on Windows 8 and Windows 7.
I even tried the most basic Hello-World application in WTL on Windows 10 and it segfaults when I run it. There are no clear indications of what is wrong. The program just segfaults with generic Windows segfault error.
Looks like WTL isn't Windows 10 compatible yet? Has anyone had this problem yet.
Just asking here as others will probably have the same problem. I tried two different Windows 10 (pre-release beta, and official release). I'm using latest WTL version WTL 9.0.4140 Final (2014-05-30).
All of our commercial applications are WTL built in VS2008. They work fine on Windows 10. If you can get a dmp file you should be able to review the crash dmp in windbg and see what is causing the fault.
Windows 10 with Visual Studio 2015 Community compiles and runs WTL sample MemDlg, I used WTL91_5270_Beta
our commercial video application is WTL-based(vs2015 express).
work fine, but it act different to MFC-based applications.
when win10 menu popup, video frame-rate drop in MFC(26fps->10fps), WTL(26fps->5fps).

Is it possible to create a Windows 8 Store App from Visual Studio 2013?

So, I have a Windows 8.1 machine with Visual Studio 2013 installed. Whenever I go to create a new Windows Store project I do not see any options to create a new Windows 8 Store app, rather than Windows 8.1 Store App. However, I have no problem opening existing Windows 8 Store App Projects.
Is it possible to create a Windows 8 Store App project from Visual Studio 2013 when running on Windows 8.1?
It's easy - create a new 8.1 project and remove the following lines from the .csproj file:
<TargetPlatformVersion>8.1</TargetPlatformVersion>
<MinimumVisualStudioVersion>12</MinimumVisualStudioVersion>
Reopen the file and voila - it's a Windows 8 project!
Additionally, you might want to change the following as well:
In MainPage.xaml:
- <Grid Background="{ThemeResource ApplicationPageBackgroundThemeBrush}">
+ <Grid Background="{StaticResource ApplicationPageBackgroundThemeBrush}">
In Package.appxmanifest:
- <m2:VisualElements
+ <VisualElements
- Square150x150Logo="Assets\Logo.png"
- Square30x30Logo="Assets\SmallLogo.png"
+ Logo="Assets\Logo.png"
+ SmallLogo="Assets\SmallLogo.png"
- <m2:SplashScreen Image="Assets\SplashScreen.png" />
+ <SplashScreen Image="Assets\SplashScreen.png" />
- </m2:VisualElements>
+ </VisualElements>
If this doesn't work - it might mean that the project files have further changed in current versions of VS and you might need to install VS 2012 (Express should do) and create a project in that. You can then work on it in the new version of VS.
Is it possible to create a Windows 8 Store App project from Visual Studio 2013 when running on Windows 8.1?
No. You need to use Visual Studio 2012 to create the Windows 8 project, then open it in VS 2013. This can be done in Windows 8.1, but requires installing VS 2012 side by side with VS 2013.
I did the following:
It's easy - create a new 8.1 project and remove the following lines from the .csproj file:
<TargetPlatformVersion>8.1</TargetPlatformVersion>
<MinimumVisualStudioVersion>12</MinimumVisualStudioVersion>
Reopen the file and voila - it's a Windows 8 project!
But it's not Voila. Reloading the project after this edit puts up a dialog saying VS2013 needs an update, and directs you to the MS Download site (assumedly to download the Phone 8.0 SDK.
I made completely sure I had the Phone 8.0 SDK installed with VS2013 installer. I even went so far as to remove (with 2013 installer) and re-add. Still this behavior persists. I'm now downloading the 8.0 SDK, which is installing 2012 Express of course. We'll see if that helps, but it seems like this shouldn't be necessary. What am I missing?
It didn't resolve the behavior. Now, I load up the solution and it won't load the project. The project has the notation (update required). When you select download update from the context menu, it just takes you to MS Downloads--no idea what needs to be downloaded.
Can someone please explain the highly voted answer above? I'm running Win 8.1 Pro with VS2013 Premium (Phone 8 SDK installed)...and I now have the VS2012 Express install that came with the regular Phone 8.0 SDK download. Thanks.
As Reed said, you cannot create Windows 8 App store project in Visual Studio 2013 and you need to have VS2012 installed too. But as a trick you can make a copy from an existing Win 8 app project and modify it. It is not very neat solution but works if you do not want to install VS2012 as well.
You need to use Visual Studio 2012 to create the Windows 8 projects.
Based on my own experience if you don't have do developer a Windows 8 version, just focus on 8.1. For me only 3% of the sales are generated by the Windows 8 version. I only backported my 8.1 app for experience sake.
You cannot developer Windows 8.0 application using VS 2013. You have to install VS 2012 for Windows 8.0.

Does Windows 8 Desktop support c++/cli?

I found some information regarding Windows 8 Metro and c++/cli. Windows 8 Metro does not support c++/cli.
However I am having trouble finding explicit documentation that states whether Windows 8 Desktop supports c++/cli (the linked question is not explicit enough IMO). Does Windows 8 Desktop support c++/cli?
Please make sure to provide a link to your relevant source.
Windows 8 does not support C++/CLI.
It is the other way around, the support does not come from the Windows team (they did not ship a compiler) but from the Visual Studio team. Each Visual Studio version has a list of supported platforms that your application can target if you use that version of Visual Studio to build your app.
So does Microsoft support writing C++/CLI apps for Windows 8 Desktop? The answer is yes if you use the right version of Visual Studio*. Does the support come from Windows? The answer is no.
*You can continue test and provide support to your customers even without Microsoft's support to you, for example you can write C++/CLI code in Notepad then compile it using the cl.exe from VS2012 Express for Windows 8. There's really nothing to prevent this use case to work, despite Microsoft's statement that VS2012 Express for Windows 8 does not support desktop development (and I don't think there's any reason why Microsoft should provide support on this use case with VS2012 Express for Windows Desktop out there) .
The Windows 8 Desktop supports everything that Windows 7 supported. C++/cli included. There really isn't much that talks about this, but here is a link to VS 2012 support for C++/cli which implies the same thing.

windows 8 - How to run XNA?

I have a windows 8 pc, I recently installed windows phone 7.1 sdk but it continously gave me the error that it couldn't install XNA 4.0 Refresh and MS VS 2010 Extensions for XNA. When I make a project of windows phone and run it it gives me this error:
Error 1 The target "GetCopyToOutputDirectoryContentProjectItems" does not exist in the project. PhoneApp2
Any suggestions/solutions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks :)
If you are running visual studio 2010 on Windows 8, then following the steps here should work:
http://www.demonixis.net/blog/installer-xna-4-0-sous-windows-8/
If possible you might want to uninstall what you have for xna and the windows phone sdk so far. (I'm not sure if it would work properly without doing so.)
Basically, it has three steps:
1)Go to xbox.com/en-US/LIVE/PC/DownloadClient
Start by pressing the download button on this page. I am not sure what the significance of downloading that client is, however, it did the trick when I installed it.
2)Then reinstalling xna on this page:
microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23714
3)And this last step is to download Windows SDK 7.1 here:
microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=27570

dll built with visual studio 2010 / windows 7 => usable on Windows 6?

Question from a Linux/Mac developer: I have compiled a 32-bit .dll (release flavor) under Windows 7 using Visual Studio 2010. Should this .dll be usable under all flavors of Windows 6 (a.k.a. Vista, if I'm not mistaken)?
Many thanks and RTFMs appreciated,
John Clements
In general: yes.
All current versions of the .Net framework run on both Vista and Win7.
Note that if you make calls into the native platform, either directly or via the Windows API Code Pack, you could have portability problems if you use functions available only in Win7. But for just straight .Net development, you should have no issue in running on any supported version of Windows.
Yes, the dll format didn't change for Windows 7. Only thing to remember is that if it's a .Net dll, the target system must have the proper .Net installed or the appropriate C/C++ runtime.
You're supposed to #define the _WIN32_WINNT macro to tell what version of Windows you want to support. The default in the SDK that ships with VS2010 is 0x600 which avoids you ever linking to an API function that is not available in Vista. So, yes, you're probably good to go.
