Wkhtmltopdf version, first page and TOC - pdf-generation

Some questions for this very nifty tool, unfortunately lacking many usage examples.
Manual speaks of a possible “Reduced Functionality” for wkhtmltopdf. I have version wkhtmltox-0.11.0_rc1-installer.exe, by running wkhtmltopdf --version what should I read to understand whether my version is the reduced one or not?
Currently I like wkhtmltopdf for webpages I want to read later and/or store. To mirror webpages I use httrack, then I generate the PDF with wkhtmltopdf *.html offline.pdf. How can I set/specify the first PDF page from the *.html list? Currently they seem to be converted in alphabetical order.
If I run wkhtmltopdf toc http://qt-project.org/doc/qt-4.8/qstring.html qstring.pdf I simply get a leading blank page, no TOC. What’s wrong?

As for the first page, I don’t need an actual cover.
What I need is a way to download/convert a given page www.site.com/foo.html and all the linked pages (A.html, B.html ...) up to a certain depth level. Then I want a single PDF starting with foo.html and containing also the pages A.html, B.html ... (with relative links).
I don’t think there is an option to download and insert the linked pages in the final PDF (please, correct me if I am wrong). So I use httrack.com to download and wkhtmltopdf to convert. Given the alphabetical behaviour of wkhtmltopdf, the best now seems to rename the target page, downloaded with httrack, something like !foo.html.
Please, let me know of possible alternatives.

For part 3 of the question which is blank TOC, the latest stable version 0.12.5 also does not generate it. The pre-release version 0.12.6-dev has fixed this problem in Mac.

I think all available precompiled wkhtmltopdf's are compiled with the patched QT, they are not reduced. The reduced functionality means that it was compiled without a special patched version of QT. I use the windows version and it isn't reduced.
I think the cover command line argument would work for you. I can't test at the moment, but try a command like wkhtmltopdf cover derpy.html toc --xsl-style-sheet default.xsl rarity.html twilight.html spike.html equestriadaily.pdf
At least in Linux, I think the asterix *.html simply explodes into all the html files before the command is performed, so if you select one html file for the cover and then do *.html in the same folder you will get the file twice. Getting around this issue might need some command line sorcery or a batch file or some other trickery.
This is a bug in wkhtmltopdf. The workaround is to manually set a tocfile. You can get the default tocfile with wkhtmltopdf.exe --dump-default-toc-xsl. Then you can save the output as a file and use it like wkhtmltopdf.exe toc --xsl-style-sheet default.xsl www.stackoverflow.com so.pdf.

jQuery's jquery.min.map not found with nested resources [duplicate]

I'm seeing error messages about a file, min.map, being not found:

Where is this coming from?
If Chrome DevTools is reporting a 404 for a .map file (maybe jquery-1.10.2.min.map, jquery.min.map or jquery-2.0.3.min.map, but can happen with anything) first thing to know is this is only requested when using the DevTools.
Your users will not be hitting this 404.
Now you can fix this or disable the sourcemap functionality.
Fix: get the files
Next, it's an easy fix. Head to http://jquery.com/download/ and click the Download the map file link for your version, and you'll want the uncompressed file downloaded as well.
Having the map file in place allows you do debug your minified jQuery via the original sources, which will save a lot of time and frustration if you don't like dealing with variable names like a and c.

Dodge: disable sourcemaps
Instead of getting the files, you can alternatively disable JavaScript source maps completely for now, in your settings. This is a fine choice if you never plan on debugging JavaScript on this page.
Use the cog icon in the bottom right of the DevTools, to open settings, then:
You can remove the 404 by removing the line
//# sourceMappingURL=jquery-1.10.2.min.map
from the top part of your jQuery file.
The top part of the jQuery file will look like this.

Purpose of a source map
Basically it's a way to map a combined/minified file back to an unbuilt state. When you build for production, along with minifying and combining your JavaScript files, you generate a source map which holds information about your original files. When you query a certain line and column number in your generated JavaScript you can do a lookup in the source map which returns the original location. Developer tools (currently WebKit nightly builds, Google Chrome, or Firefox 23+) can parse the source map automatically and make it appear as though you're running unminified and uncombined files.

As announced at jQuery 1.11 and 2.1 Released, the source map comment will be removed so the issue will not appear in newer versions of jQuery.

Anyway, if you need to use a source map, it still be available:

the custom build process, the sourcemap comment will be present in the
minified file and the map is generated; you can either leave it in and
use sourcemaps or edit it out and ignore the map file entirely.

As I understand the browser, Chrome at least, it doesn't disable the source mapping by default. That means your application's users will trigger this source-mapping request by default.
You can remove the source mapping by deleting the //# sourceMappingURL=jquery.min.map from your JavaScript file.
After following the instructions in the other answers, I needed to strip the version from the map file for this to work for me.
Example: Rename
jquery-1.9.1.min.map
to
jquery.min.map
I was presented with the same issue. The cause for me was Grunt concatenating my JavaScript file.
I was using a ;\n as a separator which caused the path to the source map to 404.
So dev tools was looking for jquery.min.map; instead of jquery.min.map.
I know that isn't the answer to the original question, but I am sure there are others out there with a similar Grunt configuration.

Assuming you've checked the file is actually present on the server, this could also be caused by your web server restricting which file types are served:
In Apache this could be done with with the <FilesMatch> directive or a RewriteRule if you're using mod_rewrite.
In IIS you'd need to look to the Web.config file.

Internal links with wkhtmltopdf?

I have created a PDF from several web pages using wkhtmltopdf.
Is there a way to link across pages, for example from page 10 to 15.
I tried creating an element with an ID and then an anchor to link to it, but this does not work within the same page or across pages. It turns the link into an absolute URL and tries to open it in a web browser.
I solved this issue by updating the binary that I was using.
I was using 0.8 and switched to 0.11.0 rc1.
Ensure that it is built against QT (the latest binary at http://code.google.com/p/wkhtmltopdf/downloads/detail?name=wkhtmltoimage-0.11.0_rc1-static-amd64.tar.bz2 is.
And then just to be sure enable internal links:
--enable-internal-links

i had this issue after installing pathced version of QT
i had wkhtmltopdf 0.9.6, than i also switched to 0.11.0 rc1
then worked fine!
and no need to use --enable-internal-links. you can just turn off this option by --disable-internal-links* by default its on.
Internal links appear only to work correctly in certain builds for certain platforms. With the latest WkHTMLtoPDF 0.12.5 releases the unix builds are OK (at least for Centos and Ubuntu) and internal links are generated correctly BUT windows builds DO NOT work and leave broken links. I don't know why this is and have commented on GitHub accordingly.
Also when multiple html input documents are used any 'internal' hyperlinks between these are broken (all platforms). In other words cross input document links are NOT fixed up. This would be a really useful feature addition (particularly when generating massive reports) but sadly does not appear to be supported as yet.

ctag database for Go

How to generate tags file for Go source
In mac, I installed exuberant ctags , and tried the below command in source directory
ctags -f gosource.tags -R `pwd`
But, it doesn't consider *.go files. Do I have to use -h option? But, isn't it only for header files, as per the manual?
Please give me the correct command so that I can use the tags file with vim. I also prefer absolute path so that I can keep the file anywhere

Does indeed work with ctags 5.8. One slight change from the previous poster, ctags requires unique 1-char types at the ends of the regex lines. Thus /d,func/ should read /f,func/ intuitively. This allows the ctags to distinguish between and identify types, allowing ctags --go-types=fvt i.e.
I saw your post, bumbled around a bit trying to find a good tool for the job, tried ctags, and ultimately was unsatisfied. I wrote a program 'gotags' in Go that generates a ctags file for Go code. Its better than the current ctags support because, for example, it tags struct field names as well as the struct name itself. You can get it here: https://github.com/necro351/gotags.
Its a nice short simple Go program because it uses the standard library parser and has no extra features other than good Go parsing and tagging. Just check it out (or go get it) and do a go install. Also, if you have any suggestions or ideas about improving it, let me know.
Edit: I am an active Gopher and so will be updating this tool over time and as I use it.
Edit: I am not actively developing Go anymore. But my tool is very short and pretty much works as is so it should "just work" :)
universal-ctags supports Go. It's the successor of exuberant-ctags and works perfectly fine. See here for the man pages.
Check Go Dashborad/Projects, section "Tag Generators". Status of those tools is not known to me.

Ghostscript prints question mark when converting digitally signed PDF to image

Ghostscript 9.0 doesn't support validation of the digital signatures in PDF document when doing PDF to image conversion. Instead, there's a question mark on the digital signature, and Ghostscript reports "Sig is not yet implemented". I'm thinking to modify the source code to get rid of the question mark, but I don't have any ideas to where I should modify in thesource code. Could any one give the hints for that? Any response will be appreciated highly, thanks.
Have you already tested the very latest release (which is v9.02)? If so, have you also tested the current 'HEAD' revision of their source code?
If your problem persists with these versions, the preparatory thing to start with is to download the (current, which is v9.02) Ghostscript source code from here or even check it out from their Git repository.
What you are trying to do can only be located in one of the following two modules of the Ghostscript source code:
the (PDF) interpreter
the (image) output devices
So I would first recursively grep the sources for "not yet implemented" or similar expressions, taking into account that there may even be line breaks within the string. (***I doubt the quote you gave in your initial version of the question is accurate, because it contained at least one typo.)
If I didn't find anything in the first step, I'd get into touch with the Ghostscript developers themselves. They usually hang around in IRC on Freenode, channel #ghostscript. In general they are a very friendly and helpful bunch, and they'll surely be able to give you some hints about how to solve your problem if you know how to ask...

additional settings for wkhtmltopdf?

I am converting some docs to pdf using wkhtmltopdf (currently using perl and the command line versions). Is it possible to change the "PDF Producer", "PDF Version" and "Fast Web View" fields? The current defaults are "wkhtmltopdf", "1.4 (Acrobat 5.x)", and "No", respectively. I didn't see anything in the wiki page
Pass the following with the command line to see supported features: " --extended-help"
Not sure if those specific params are supported or not.
I patched wkhtmltopdf to support an additional flag recently, and it would be quite easy to add parameters to change those. I don't believe they are supported currently, though.
PDF Producer: Nope. Most apps want folks to know that particular app generated the PDF.
PDF Version: Nope, but trivial. The version number at the beginning of the file is just a courtesy really. What exactly are you after with this? Chances are you don't really need it. The PDF generated isn't going to acquire any features automagically just because the PDF claims to be this version or that. It's only really used so a viewer opening a newer PDF can say something like "I don't support this version, some stuff might not work". Because everything will work regardless (unless someone happens to have a VERY old version of Acrobat/Reader), I don't see the issue.
Fast Web View: Nope, and decidedly non-trivial. "Fast Web View" means everything needed to display the first page of the PDF is sorted to the front of the file, and there are various "hints" on where an app downloading the PDF can find this or that. It's not just a flag, not by a long stretch.
