github for windows not showing my changes made in eclipse - windows

I've installed github for windows.
I cloned a repository to my local drive.
But when i make some changes into my app from eclipse, the changes doesn't come in github for windows .
hoping a reply soon .
P.S. I am a noob

For anyone else reading this: if you generate a large amount of untracked/modified data, the GitHub Windows app sometimes appears to be ignorant of all recent changes.
For example: if you generate a bunch of untracked Doxygen files (~500MB), it may take GitHub a very long time to finally show "Uncommitted changes". In the meantime, you may not see any of your changes.
If your git bash shows changes, and your GitHub gui does not, then this is likely your issue.

Can`t see the file history in Gitlens (on a specific project)

I have a problem with Gitlens extension. Firstly, Gitlens or Git History extension is working fine on any other project except the this Laravel project. My problem is, can`t see the file history or line history in this project.
On the other hand, there is no problem in the git log (Git History Extension) as seen in screenshot;
But I can't compare any files with their any version (every commit seems like in the ss). I have no idea what the problem is about.
Lastly, I don't think the problem is about extension settings because other projects do not have this problem. Is there a any chance to fix this issue without resetting git history?
I am answering after 3 months, maybe it works for someone. As I mentioned in the title, surely there is no problem about extension settings for this specific project. The problem is just about git files. Maybe, I damaged some git files while moving the project on my desktop :)
So, there is no chance to fix this issue without resetting git history or starting fresh with git, if you`re having the same problem.
Do not play with git files, it`s no joke!
I've got a similar issue. My problem is in using symbolic links for folders.
I have this folder symlink for my repos.

The top editor is opened via C:\repos
The bottom editor via C:\Users\Qwerty\repos
You can see that some git features still work (yellow), but others don't.
However, this is very strange, because in my other repos, I have never observed such issues.
Also notice below that it is still possible to invoke the same action via a git lens popup and then it is possible to use the Prev Next Revision buttons.
Anyway, after more testing, I actually observe the same thing in my other repos. I assume that something must have changed between versions as I only observe these issues for last maybe 2-3 months. I even submitted a ticket that GitLens stopped working in v12.0.0 and later versions https://github.com/gitkraken/vscode-gitlens/issues/1979
The buttons completely disappeared and even the commit information

And Now actually, after having reopened my repo via original path and after updating GitLens back to v12.0.6 I see that it is working properly!

git (windows) - find file that was saved locally but not committed/staged

I normally create new branches from master for different JIRA tasks and them merge them back into master with pull requests when the task is completed.
However, I'm using Rstudio and always have a local script open which acts a a rolling cookbook of tricks and tips to look back on. Basically its a library of my R knowledge.
Unfortunately I believe I've lost a couple of weeks work on this file as I think dropped any changes from the master branch, then created a new branch, created/edited a different file and merged back into master for a separate task.
I'm on Windows 10 and restore previous version doesn't seem to be available. The last restore point is a day after the last pull request I had merged. Im trying to find a way to find any other version of this file either in Git or older versions on my machine.
Whats the best way or tools to do this. I've lost some changes to an algorithm I'd been working on which successfully turned a 6 hour job into a 10 min job and I don't want to try and remember how I did it. I'm using visual studio for Git and I've got Git tortoise. According to tortoise There was a merge on 19/04 and nothing before 09/02 so I don't think Git ever staged or committed the changes I've lost that were all written between the 16/04 and 20/04.

I think I've found it. Although its not in my Rstudio history in the UI (or the history file opened in notepad), when I use the search function in Rstudio's history it finds it?! Rstudio apparently has everything I've ever written and its timestamped too.
Still keeping this question open for future issues (although I've made this file local now to avoid this in the future). If anyone knows where the 'master' history file for Rstudio too thats of interest.

You have found the "searching history" which allows you to find back all past files/commands.

Xcode 5: The repository could not be reached

I have this issue with Xcode 5 where I'm trying to commit a file to a remote git repository (BitBucket) and getting a pop up window with the following error: "The repository "project_name" could not be reached. Please verify that the repository is online and reachable and try again."
I've been working with this setup for awhile now (since Xcode 4) and didn't have any problems with it. Under Xcode->Preferences->Accounts->Repositories I saw the correct repository, but duplicated. I deleted and added it again, but it didn't help. I tried closing the project and rebooting the computer and it didn't help either. I can see the project's history under Source Control->History. I can access the repository on BitBucket.
Any idea where this is coming from and how to solve this issue?
Not sure if this helps in the tracking down of this problem, but here goes anyway:
I have been connecting to a local network git repository perfectly well for a number of months, but I encountered this problem later yesterday and nothing I did seemed to improve the situation. That included:
Rebooting both the development machine and the server;
Reinstalling Xcode from the App Store;
Re-cloning the project from the git command line (which could see the repository perfectly well);
Checking out the repository from Xcode (I was able to check out but every other operation, such as , Commit, Refresh Status etc. seemed to cause the problem...)
Manipulation the repository with SourceTree (which could also see it fine).
Eventually I stumbled across a solution to my local issue. If I launch Xcode with a wired and wireless network enabled then I can't see the repository. If I close it, disable wifi and relaunch it then I can.
I've not had much opportunity to work out what the difference is (especially as the wifi connects to the same network and is the secondary choice for networking) but it does seem to fix it.
Hope that might help others and hopefully I can find a real explanation soon!

Well it seems this had nothing to do with Bitbucket.
The problem was a messed up .git folder on my machine.
My project resides in a Dropbox folder. Somehow, perhaps because of accessing it from different machines, it created copy/duplicate files in the .git folder and it messed up Git. After fixing all the conflicts Git returned to working as usual and I was able to commit from Xcode to the remote repository.
Now, if you encounter this issue, you might not have the same setup as mine or work on Dropbox or any similar service, but I strongly recommend checking your Git folder thoroughly. Good chance something is messed up there.
Check internet connection of system.also quit xcode and reopen it.

github for windows crashing several times a day

I newly started working on Github via their native Windows Application, it's quite good however it's crashing so often and the horrible thing is that I lose all the recent changes after it's crashing. All the local files will rollback to the last version of the successful commit or sync.
I'm on a 64bit windows 8 machine. Any ideas?

I sent an email to GitHub For Windows support. Their answer was this:
Hi David,
I am sorry for the trouble.
I have been able to reproduce this problem, and have filed a report for our developers to look at. The reason the application is crashing is likely due to merge conflicts between the local and remote repositories.
The easiest way to resolve this would be to go into the repository that is saying 'failed looking for HEAD', closing that pop-up, and clicking Tools -> Open a Shell Here.
From the shell, you can run 'git reset --merge' to undo the merge that caused GitHub for Windows to crash.
From there, run 'git checkout master' to switch from the detached HEAD.
After that, run 'git pull' in the shell to pull down any new changes. It will prompt you to fix any merge conflicts (which is what caused the app to crash).
Once you fix the merge conflicts in the files, you should then be able to sync correctly in GitHub for WIndows.
I have been testing this issue, and after I resolved the conflicts with the initial crash, I no longer had any further trouble with GitHub for Windows. It correctly prompted me to open the shell and resolve merge conflicts rather than crashing.
Let me know if you have any further questions, and hopefully we will have a fix out for this soon.

I had this problem after I made an unstable change to my .gitconfig user file.
I only detected the issue after I tried using TortoiseGIT and it outlined the error parsting the config file with an unexpected token.
So the fix was to correct the bad .gitconfig file.

How do I use Github to access the same project files from different computers?

I work mainly on a desktop Mac but also have a laptop Mac that I use when away from the office.
I want to access and work on my latest html, css, php and python files from either computer.
I thought Github was the way to do this but am having a problem understanding the "flow" and I've RTFM! I don't understand whether I should create a Repository on Github first, why when I try to "clone" something it doesn't magically end up on my local computer... where the nice big red button that says "sync" is...
... or whether I should just use the commandline ONLY...
So, if I start on my desktop and create new files, what are the correct steps using git or Github (?) to put those files where they can then be accessed from my laptop and then have the files on my laptop merged back into the ?Github repository so I can then access those files from my desktop.

The workflow presented by wadesworld is concise and was the overview I needed.
However, Michael Durrant's commandline steps filled in that workflow specifically with commandline directives - and I needed that also.
steelclaw and uDaY's answers and responses were important because I did not understand that it did not matter which repo I created first and, adding and committing locally were essential first steps in my workflow.
Specifically, steelclaw's response to one of my response questions provided the closure I needed, so I could learn more:
After initializing the repository, be sure to use 'add' and 'commit.' These will make the files an official version of the repository. After that, you need to use 'push' to upload it to the remote repository."

Do you want to version control your files or just have access to the same files in both places?
It is a good idea to use version control as a developer, whether you're writing code or designing websites. But, to do so, you have to have a commitment to learning how version control systems work, since they all have some learning curve.
But, if you're not interested in that complexity and simply want to be sure you have access to the latest version of your files, then you're looking at a file syncing operation which can be much more simple.
So, which one do you want?
Edit: Based on the response, here's the model:
1) Create repository on work computer.
2) Create repository with same name on github.
3) Push to repository on github
4) At home, do a git clone to pull down the changes you pushed.
5) Now that the repository exists in both locations, you can simply do a git push before you leave work, and git pull when you get home, and vice-versa when going the other direction.
To answer the detail of your question: I'd go with Dropbox.
UbuntuOne is also good even for non Ubuntu users and of course Google drive is the (big) new player on the block.

If you wanted something that's more suited to programmers, I'd use git:
First, install gitx (linux readers, that's gitg) as that is by far the most popular gui for git:

Using gitx or gitg the specific flow is as follow:
1) Make some changes to files.
2) Use the tools "commit" tab to see what's changed ("unstaged"):
3) Add a file by dragging it from "unstaged" to "staged":
4) Give a commit message
5) Commit the file.
6) I then push it to the remote at the command line with $ git push remote or I use the gui by right clicking and select ing the 2nd master - see here:

The github part is doing init and push and clone but I'd say just read up on those tutorials more rather than an SO question. Basically though, I do:
Set up repository locally in git:
git init
git add .
git commit "Initial commit"
Set up github:
Create a github repository using github (https://help.github.com/articles/create-a-repo)and then push your local repository to it as in:
git push origin master.
If the repository already exists on github but not on your local pc, that's wheh you click the remote link and then in a terminal type git clone [paste here, e.g. ctrl-v]
If you're "starting" with github:
Make code changes
git pull - get latest version into your repository and merge in any changes
git add . Add all modified files
git commit -m "message"
git push # origin master is the default.

I use all these services (git, github, UbuntuOne, Dropbox and googleDrive, so I am not recommending one over the others -it depends on the needs).
I would recommend using DropBox or Google Drive. They will let you do EXACTLY what you are trying to achieve, they are very user friendly (and free [5 Gb I think]).
They automatically update (as long as you have an internet connection obviously)
Just make a folder, put some files in it, and you are away.

Git may feel complicated or strange at first, but if what you are looking for is a good version control system, it is excellent.
However, if all you're looking for is a cloud-like service to sync some files across multiple computers, like the others have mentioned, Dropbox would be the way to go.
I use Github as a "hub" of git, to share finished codes. (And Git for version control)
And Dropbox to sync files between different computers and mobile/tablet, to manage files.

Git is an advanced and rather difficult tool to use for version control. If you're feeling brave, you can try to install the command line tool, however I recommend using a graphical client, specifically SourceTree.

You'll need to clone your repository, or else initialize a new one. To connect to your repository, you'll need to know the URL, and possibly a username and password for your repository. You also need to provide a valid name for the repository.
To update files there are several steps: First, you need to add the changes to the directory. Source tree might do this automatically. Then you need to commit the changes. This is basically confirming changes and signing them with a comment. To upload them, you need to use push and select the correct remote repository. When you want to update your local repository, you'll need to use pull and again select the correct remote repository.
For your purposes, however, it seems like dropbox might be better, because it automatically updates and is very simple. If you don't need the advanced version control that git provides (e.g. branching, merging from many users), then it seems like it would be a better option for you.
