When I create a new WebAPI project (MVC4) I get the following error.
EntityFramework.5.0.0: Failed to initialize the Powershell host. If your powershell execution policy setting is set to AllSigned, open the package manager console to initialize the host first.
jQuery.1.7.1.1: Failed to initialize the Powershell host. If your powershell execution policy setting is set to AllSigned, open the package manager console to initialize the host first.
After Googling I have found a few answers but nothing that works yet.
Error creating new MVC project - EF and JQuery
This answer seems like it should work for me as my last project was a 7z Command Line app and I might have done something daft with 7zip. But I copy pasted the 7-Zip directory from Program Files to Program Files (86) with no luck.

There is an answer here that might work (I haven't tried it) but even if it does work I wouldnt want to do this every time I create a new project.
Is anyone able to help me with this one?
I got around a similar error by running PowerShell as administrator with the command Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted, restarting Visual Studio, and opening the Package Manager Console before what I wanted to do.
Make sure you understand the security implications of doing this first.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee176961.aspx
Restricted - No scripts can be run. Windows PowerShell can be used only in interactive mode.
AllSigned - Only scripts signed by a trusted publisher can be run.
RemoteSigned - Downloaded scripts must be signed by a trusted publisher before they can be run.
Unrestricted - No restrictions; all Windows PowerShell scripts can be run.
I encountered this issue recently, after re-install VS and install the latest VS update 2, things go well. This works for me at least.

I know my question is very similar to this one (Visual Studio Package Installation Error: "Failed to initialize the PowerShell host."). But still the answer that was given there didn't solve my issue.
So like the guy in the link above I have a problem in Visual Studio when I try to create a Web Forms Application or when I want to download and install some Nuget packages (example: AWS DynamoDB sdk) it gives me this error:
failed to initialize the PowerShell host. If your PowerShell execution policy setting is set to AllSigned, open the Package Manager Console to initialize the host first.
When I did some browsing I came across this command:
Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted
But that didn't help. I still got the error. In the link above someone shares this command:
start-job { Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted } -RunAs32 | wait-job | Receive-Job
But I don't really know what difference it makes or what it actually does. After trying the first command and doing:
Get-ExecutionPolicy
I got a response that the value is Unrestricted. But in the other command it was still AllSigned. I also tried running Visual Studio as administrator and that didn't help either.
I figured out, that there was a certificate from Microsoft on the Untrusted list, and I needed to delete it, and now it works.
heroku : File C:\Users\mar\AppData\Roaming\npm\heroku.ps1 cannot be loaded. The file C:\Users\mar\AppData\Roaming\npm\heroku.ps1 is not digitally
signed. You cannot run this script on the current system. For more information about running scripts and setting execution policy, see
about_Execution_Policies at https:/go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkID=135170.
This is the error I'm getting. I've tried running "heroku -v" within the cmd and it works there so I know it was installed correctly. However, when I run the same command in visual studio I get the above error. I'm running visual studio code in admin mode and I installed heroku from admin mode as well.
I also enabled developer mode in my computer settings.
You need to set the execution policy regardless of whether you are running in administrator mode or not for PowerShell.
You can read more about this here
You can also see that it's throwing an error with regards to execution policy. The error basically means that windows could not verify the identity of the user that created the script and is blocking you from running it because it may be harmful (based on the fact that it could not verify the identity of the file creator).
This is just a counter-measure to prevent malicious scripts from running automatically.
If you want to run the script I would suggest running
Set-ExecutionPolicy -Scope CurrentUser -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted
and then running the Heroku commands. The above script removes restrictions on script executions on the current logged in user.
I just installed nodejs on one of my build servers (Win Server 2008 R2) which hosts a Bamboo remote agent. After completing the installation and doing a reboot I got stuck in the following situation:
The remote Bamboo build agent is running as a windows service with user MyDomain\MyUser. When a build with an inline powershell task is executing it fails with the error (from the build agent log):
com.atlassian.utils.process.ProcessNotStartedException: powershell could not be started
...
java.io.IOException: Cannot run program "powershell"
...
java.io.IOException: CreateProcess error=2, The system cannot find the file specified
Loggin on to the server as MyDomain\MyUser, I have checked that powershell is in the path:
where powershell
C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powershell.exe
I have tried to restart the service and reboot the machine multiple times. No luck. The only thing that works is if I execute my scripts as a bat file with an absolute path to powershell - but I do not want that.
I have searched for solutions on this, but even though this one seems related: Hudson cannot find powershell after update to powershell 3 - the proposed solutions do not work.
What am I missing here?
If you do a default installation of nodejs you will see that it adds nodejs and npm to the path. Sometimes I have seen that the installer adds a user variable named PATH - it might be that the Bamboo agent decides to read the user path without "merging" it with the system path. I think it would be worth a try to give that a look.
As per Atlassian support page, this is related to a bug in Java Service Wrapper. I tried Workaround-2 since there was no user PATH variable in my system. I had to uninstall bamboo agent service and Java 64 versions from the agent machine to apply the workaround-2.
I'm installing sonarqube on Windows Server 2012.
I have followed the following steps:
Downloaded sonarqube4.4 and extracted to C:\Sonarqube
Downloaded Java JDK 1.7.0_60 and jre 1.7.0_67 as well as jre7
Installed Windows SDK 7 and .NET Framework 4
Navigated to C:\sonar\bin\windows x86-64 and ran StartSonar.bat as an administrator, this ran ok with no output and Ihad to hot ctrl- Z to break
I then ran \windows-x86-64\InstallNTService.bat as an administrator and I am seeing the sonarQube services was launched, but failed to start.
Not sure what the problem is.
I believe you first ran \windows-x86-64\InstallNTService.bat successfully and then StartSonar.bat unsuccessfully (the inverse order of what you describe).
You probably have [this problem]: http://qualilogy.com/fr/wp-content/uploads/sites/2/2013/09/Sonar_ServiceLaunchError2.jpg
Windows could not start the Sonar service on Local Computer.
Error 1067: The process terminated unexpectedly.
In that case, the solution is to change the user/rights to launch the Sonar service: https://qualilogy.com/en/migrate-sonarqube-tomcat-to-windows-service/
Go to the Services window, find the Sonar service, and open the Properties windows to change the user it logs on as to one with sufficient permissions.
I was able to solve this problem by creating a new folder named “Temp” in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\
The Log-File will show only
--> Wrapper Started as Service
Cleaning or creating >temp directory C:\Program Files (x86)\SonarQube\sonarqube\temp
<-- Wrapper Stopped
The SonarQube service was launched, but failed to start.
After a long search, I came up to this site http://zen-and-art-of-programming.blogspot.de/2013/03/installing-and-running-sonar-source.html.
Solution:
Navigate to C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\ and create the directory Temp
2: Set the user rights to full access
3: Run the StartNTService.bat
I am trying to get a project to build on a machine but i get the following:
C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.CppCommon.targets(744,5): warning MSB3075: The command "regsvr32 /s "C:\builds\working\\Win32\Debug\projx86.dll"" exited with code 5. Please verify that you have sufficient rights to run this command.
The previous error was converted to a warning because the task was called with ContinueOnError=true.
Build continuing because "ContinueOnError" on the task "Exec" is set to "true".
C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.CppCommon.targets(756,5): error MSB8011: Failed to register output. Please try enabling Per-user Redirection or register the component from a command prompt with elevated permissions.
The user account i am using is an Administrator on the machine so should that not have the highest privileges?
I can go to the startup and right click and run as administrator and that might sort it, but im trying to do an automated build and run of this project, so i cant use that method.
Anyone know how i might fix this?
Solution Explorer ->[YourProject]->Properties->Linker ->General->Per-user Redirection "TRUE"
I found this same issue when working on an C++ ATL project.
In my case, when I added a new ATL class I was missing a line in the resource file (.rc) that adds a resource type "registry" of the new class resource file (.rgs) . This creates the same permission issue stated above.
#LittleFairy answer is probably the best. But you could run Visual Studio as administrator.
Note: You need to explicitly start Visual Studio as administrator. Just the user account having admin rights isn't enough.
