TFS Cloud and Shared Projects - visual-studio-2010

I have just set up an account with TFS Cloud Services and am trying to add my solutions to it.
The problem I'm having is that I have the same shared projects in multiple solutions that I only want to exists once in source control. It seems if I just add the solutions, it will add the shared projects each time under a separate folder for each.
I need only one instance of each shared project so a checkout is reflected across all solutions.
Any ideas how to do this on the TFS Cloud services and VS2010 specifically?

Go to your Team Explorer -> Source Control Explorer and use the "add items to folder" to drop in your entire source code directory instead of doing an "add solution to source control" per solution.
[Adding in from the comment below]
Once you have done this you can use the "add solution to source control" for each of your solutions for the bindings to the .sln file. This does the right thing and maintains the folder mapping that you have created via the source explorer and avoids any duplication.

Visual Studio Team Services opens an empty/unupdated solution?

We're trying to work together on our project, using VS Team Services. The problem is when we're opening the project from within its' VSTS website - what we see is the project empty and not updated with any recent changes.
The project's repo is on my PC, so I'm able to open it not from its' website.
'Sync' was being used.
edit: It seems that whenever I commit changes the VSTS saves our project to its' VS-site. why is that necessary?
You should add the source files to source control first. Then you could use Push with Git (or Check-in for TFVC) effectively. In your case, you should use the "Add to Source Control" option on the Solution itself to add all the appropriate files to source control.
Note that VSTS host two different source control technologies: Git and TFVC.
I would advice you to understand which technology you are currently using by reading this detailed article, then you will be able to add the source and work with team on the same repository.

Add a project on local solution but not in source control (TFS)

EDIT:
I have an existig solution in visual studio (which is on TFS source control). In this solution, I have several projects too (under source control).
Now, I would like to add a project (for test purpose) to my solution, but I would like this project only on my local computer and not commit it on the source control, because all other team members doesn't need it!
I can obviously, remove the project of source control, but while it is in the solution, all others team members will be able to see the project even if they'll not be able to load it !
Anyway to avoid .sln to add the local project ? Is it possible to do this ?
Thanks.
Yes ofcourse. Easiest way would be to create your own local solution file with the test project and the other projects that you need.
You can't add the test project to the solution without adding it to the source control. The simple reason is that the project has to be declared in the SLN file which is on source control.
So you'll have to create another solution and add existing projects and the new one.

Getting Team Foundation to recognize new files added to source controlled directory

I am working on a PHP project, so I am not using Visual Studio, however the company I work at is mostly a .NET shop so we use Team Foundation Server for version control. I can use VS to manually add files to the TFS project but that is a bit cumbersome when I am adding a bunch of new files, I pretty much have to add the file right after I create it so I don't forget.
What I want to know is if there is a way to have TFS pick up a new file added to a directory that is under source control for a project. For instance if I added a few PHP files to the source controlled html directory I would like to be able to just go to check in pending changes in TFS and have the newly added files included in the list. Does anyone know if this is possible? Thanks much!
There's no way to have this happen automatically with TFS 2010 or below. I've seen a video that says they'll be adding this feature for the next release.
In the meantime, you can use Source Control Explorer, then right-click a folder in the left pane and choose "Add Items to Folder". Follow the dialog and you'll be able to add any of the items that haven't previously been added.

Why is TFS ignoring a project in my solution?

I have multiple projects in our solution that is in our TFS 2010 repository. I've added about 5 new projects to this solution in recent days.
I have found that for one of the projects, that the project file itself will not check-in to TFS. All of the artifacts contained in this project are working fine; they are checked in and I can see them in the Team Explorer. But I cannot see the project file in Team Explorer, nor is their an icon next to the project in Solution Explorer that would indicate its checked in status.
Also, clicking on any of the TFS related option in the context menu in Visual Studio results in those options being applied to the file contained in the project, not the actual project itself.
Can this be remedied or do I have to create an entirely new project and add all of the artifacts from the old project back into it?
Your project doesn't have appropriate Source Control Bindings! With the solution open, you'll need to go to File -> Source Control -> Change Source Control to view the bindings for your projects. The failing one probably will show an "Unknown" or not binded status. You can then use that dialog to correct the binding and check in the project file.
Appended Alternate Solution -
Navigate to the Team Explorer -> Source Control and manually add the files using the "Add Items to Folder" menu item.
You can try following steps
1 Unbind the project in "Change Source Control" dialog
2 Refresh project to update source control status
3 Right click the project and click Add the Project to source Control in solution explorer
I was faced with the same issue but the solution is slightly different than those mentioned so far. My project's contents were checked in but the project itself was not. The project's bindings were valid.
In the Team explorer's Source Code Explorer, the project files were greyed out. After a get-latest, TFS opened the Merge Conflicts screen where I could choose to keep the local copy.
After this, the project was part of TFS.

Team Foundation (TFS 2010) Folder Cloaking - Server Side Alternative?

I have a website project that is consuming user controls from another shared project. I am using a build event to copy the *.ascx files over from the source user control project.
I don't want the ascx files to be checked into TFS source control from the consuming project, only the source project. Is there a way to keep TFS from trying to check in files from a specific folder other then cloaking?
My issue with cloaking is that it's a client side function, which means every developer who takes down the project would have to manually cloak the folder or folders in question themselves. I'd like to be able to setup the solution in such a way as a developer could take the project down from source control without having to manually configure it to accommodate my separate project for shared user controls.
There is an article here: http://devio.wordpress.com/2009/11/05/shared-aspx-and-ascx-files-in-visual-studio-and-tfs/ that seems to address this issue but I think they're setup is different then mine in that I am using a website project and not a web application project. Being that I have no .csproj file there's no way to include or exclude files from my project.
Check out the TFS Power Tools (if you haven't already) http://visualstudiogallery.msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/c255a1e4-04ba-4f68-8f4e-cd473d6b971f, under Team Members > General Settings, you can setup a Worspace Template to cloak as needed.
Not played with it myself, but looks to be the functionality that you need.
