I want to show two properties concatenated in single textbox.
#Html.TextBoxFor(m=>m.Name+m.Lanme)
Can I do that?
You should do this logic in your Controller and have a property called FullName.
For example:
ViewModel model = new ViewModel();
model.Person = GetPerson();
model.FullName = model.Person.FirstName + " " + model.Person.LastName;
return View(model);
Then simply do:
#Html.TextBoxFor(m=>m.FullName)
If you wanted to take it a step further, FullName could be a property of Person and carry out the logic in GetPerson() method.

I am working in mvc3 razor.
i want checkbox input in razor view for all catagories stored in database.
how could i bind it? please help
Suppose your model is having a field to hold all the checkbox text like.
public class MyClass
{
public string SelectedOptions {get;set;}
public List<String> CheckList {get;set;}
}
Write a controller Action method like
public ActionResult ShowCheckBoxList()
{
MyClass Options= new MyClass();
Options.CheckList = new List<String>();
// Here populate the CheckList with what ever value you have to
// either if you are getting it from database or hardcoding
return View(Options);
}
you have to create a view by right clicking the above method and choose Add View. Make sure you keep the name same as the method name also you the strongly typed view by choosing the MyClass Model from the dropDown, scaffolding template is optional use it as per your scenario.
Now in your View you can use this populated check box text as
#foreach(var optionText in Model.CheckList)
{
#Html.CheckBox(#Model.SelectedOptions, false, new {Name = "SelectedOptions", Value = #optionText})
#Html.Label(#optionText , new { style = "display:inline;" })
}
Keep this in a form and make sure you also specify a Action to be called on post of the form.
Make your action name same as the previous action (it is [GET] meaning before post), Now we create same method for [POST]
[HTTPPOST]
public ActionResult ShowCheckBoxList(MyClass data) // here you will get all the values from UI in data variable
{
//data.SelectedOptions will have all the selected values from checkbox
}
I am trying to pass a modelclass store to a RenderPartial. The goal for the renderpartial is to change/set values on this (store)model. I have been trying like this:
#{ Html.RenderPartial("test", new store(){Output=""}); }
#{ Html.RenderPartial("test", new store(){Output2=""}); }
public class store
{
public string Output { get; set; }
public string Output2 { get; set; }
}
the Partial 'test' has to change the Output properties. Is it uberhaupt possible and if yes how to do this? The renderpartial contains a javascript to calculate the value of the properties.
RenderPartial is meant to get either none of the data from the parent or a part of the model.
The overloads at:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.web.mvc.html.renderpartialextensions.renderpartial(v=vs.108).aspx
Tell you object isn't a custom object but meant to be part of the Model, ex Model.Customers
Pass the required value from your model to the partial and let the partial create it's own objects.
If you really want to pass it to the partial then create a new view model for your parent view and set the Output property in your viewmodel and pass it to the partial.
Note also that the partial gets it's own copy of the data and cannot update the parents copy so that may defeat what you actually want here.
If you need some other calculate data do it in your controller prior to passing it to the view if possible.
#store st = new store(){Output="", Output2=""};
#{ Html.RenderPartial("test", new RouteValueDictionary {{"output", st.Output}, {"output2", st.Output2}}); }
Hi I am developing an application in MVC3.
and i am stuck at one place.
I have 2 fields in my view which are not a part of my class.
i am just using them to populate the dropdown
The 2 fields are State and District.
But i want to show the selected value of the two fields in another View.
I tried it using ViewBag but this doesnot work and gives me Null.
this is inside Create get method:
int stateid = Convert.ToInt32(formcollection["ProvincialState.ProvincialStateID"]);
int districtid = Convert.ToInt32(formcollection["District.DistrictID"]);
ProvincialState state = new AddressService().FetchStateByStateId(stateid);
District district = new AddressService().FetchDistrictByDistrictId(districtid);
ViewBag.State = state.ProvincialStateName;
ViewBag.District = district.DistrictName;
and this is inside Details View:
string data1 = ViewBag.State;
string data2 = ViewBag.District;
ViewBag.State = data1;
ViewBag.District = data2;
I cannot use post method of Create coz i need to show this data only on another view.
or if is their any method thru which i can show the data in the same view.
ViewBag is like ViewData. In order to have information between pages you should store that info in session. You can do that in 2 ways:
Use a session variable like:
this.Session["SessionVariable"] = value;
Or use the this.TempData object:
this.TempData["SessionVariable"] = value;
The difference between this two is that the TempData object will be deleted from the session when it is read.
TempData is just a wrapper of the session.
You can send this fields to your action in addition to model, and then store it in session for example:
public class SomeController: Controller
{
[HttpPost]
public ActionResult DoSomething(MyModel model, int state, int district)
{
// validating model...
// ...
Session["state"] = state;
Session["district"] = district;
// some other logic...
}
}
I have ViewModel, View which uses this viewmodel and controller
in view I have input fields like this:
#Html.EditorFor(model => model.TransitApplication.ApplicationDate)
and field name is TransitApplication_ApplicationDate
I want to update some data from view in database but there is one problem
controller update source
public ActionResult Update(int id, FormCollection collection)
{
string prefix = "TransitApplication";
TransitApplication transitApplication = transitApplicationRepozitory.GetById(id);
if (transitApplication == null)
return Content("Error! Not Found!");
if (TryUpdateModel(transitApplication, prefix))
{
if (ModelState.IsValid)
{
transitApplicationRepozitory.Update(transitApplication);
transitApplicationRepozitory.Save();
return RedirectToAction("Index");
}
}
return Content("Error!");
}
I want to take prefix (TransitApplication) name programmatically and not like I have
string prefix = "TransitApplication";
some advice?
Seeing that the form prefix is built using the Class Name of the Model property, what about:
if (TryUpdateModel(transitApplication, typeof(TransitApplication).Name))
This removes your magic string - although this isn't actually the property name on the model class, but I'm guessing that if you renamed class, you'd probably want to rename the referenced property on the model too - although it is a little brittle.
The alternative is you could use something like this GetPropertyInfo method which would allow you to get the property name as a string like this var propertyInfo = GetPropertyInfo(yourModelObject, u => u.UserID); - although you don't currently have an instantiated model class in your action atm.
I am just new to MVC.
when we use "#Html.EditorFor" in razor view, it generates textbox.
My requirement is that I need to supply some value from viewbag or session to user's in that textbox?
Is it possible and if yes how can i do?
OR
What are the alternatives?
In your action method in the controller, pre-load a model with some data:
public ActionResult Index()
{
MyModel model = new MyModel();
model.FirstName = "Bob";
model.LastName = "Hoskins";
return View(model);
}
Then make your View strongly typed. These pre-set values should now appear on your view. You probably want to populate them from a service layer or resource file, rather than have them as hardcoded strings like my example.
