I am trying to package an application I have been working on using OSX. I have the package created and I can do some basic (check system values etc) checks.
What I now want to do is to gather end user data during the install so I can create a custom config file.
I understand I must use installer plugins to do this but I cannot find any useful information to do this.
Can people please share resources, link or useful tips to help me do this.
(Super) late answer, but am currently doing this. I'm using packages. Its a program which will build an installer for you.
What you do is supply it your.app and an installer plugin, and off you go. (You can create installer plugins in Xcode when it asks you what type of project you want to work on).
Regarding problem you are solving specifically, my solution was to get the input configs from the user from the plugin I wrote. The plugin would then write these configs to a file in a temp location. I then modified my app to look for these configs and read them from there.
Note: your plugin will not run with admin privileges (even if you ticked the box in the for this in the packages app). If you need to have admin privileges, consider adding a post-install script in packages (and make sure you enable "Require admin password for installation" in the "settings" tab)

So my company has a custom Win10 boot image for provisioning new computers. However a new image hasn't been created recently. I am looking for a way to keep all the custom parameters like the PowerShell scripts that run with it, etc. I found there is a way to add update packages, but does it actually update the ISO image to that version of Windows, or does it just run the update package. It take's forever to have to have to update each new computer after imaging them.
The file you need to edit is not an .iso it is boot.wim You should be able to edit the file using after mounting using DISM. The process is here.

I'm a high school kid who's clueless about computing. I need to use PLINK on my MacBook for a bioinformatics project but I'm not sure how to even run it after downloading it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Firstly, you have to have jre or jdk installed. You can download jdk 8 (my preferred one) from the link. Just select the MacOS tab, and proceed.
Once downloaded, double-click to install.
Then, you have to download the application zip (here).
Extract it.
Double click on the gPLINK.jar in the extracted folder. If you faced an error, do the following: Open System Preferences> navigate to Security & Privacy icon > click on the lock icon below and enter password if required >on General tab, allow the program to be run.
Now the program must be launched successfully. You can move the .jar file to a desirable location, so that you will not forget where it was located.

I am trying to build my validator for Solana. I installed Solana on the main user.
I created another user to restrict the access to sudo. I can run the Solana command from my main user but on the limited user it says command not found. does anybody know what is the problem?
The Solana install tool sets everything up in $HOME/.local/share/solana/install/active_release/bin and adds that directory to your $PATH in .profile. This directory is not in your other user's path, so it is inaccessible to the other user.
To solve this, you can:
redo the install steps as your other user
Or
add your main user's $HOME/.local/share/solana/install/active_release/bin to your other's $PATH, ie:
export PATH="/home/$MAIN_USER_NAME/.local/share/solana/install/active_release/bin:$PATH"
where $MAIN_USER_NAME is the name of the user that has installed the Solana tools.
Also, you can double-check the existing installation by running which solana as the main user.

Microsoft released Windows terminal as a Microsoft Store app. How to add it to the context menu or replace 'Open Powershell window here' with it ?
There might have been several approaches discussed everywhere, but none of them is up-to-date nor offers flexibility. So I started a new open source project and provided two PowerShell scripts to help.

You can run install.ps1 as administrator in PowerShell 7 to easily add the default layout.
There are other layouts (mini and flat at this moment).
Uninstall the menu items are also easy with uninstall.ps1.
The Win-X Menu shortcuts are stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\WinX and in the Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ShellCompatibility\InboxApp part of the registry, but the file explorer option is the one that really dictates what happens in the Win-X menu. I do not suggest just adding and changing stuff in the WinX folder because you could mess things up, however, the winaero.com/comment.php?comment.news.30 app in the link provides a way in which you wouldn't mess it up. Either way, you should put "%programfiles%\WindowsApps\Microsoft.WindowsTerminal_0.11.1121.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe\WindowsTerminal.exe" in either a shortcut in the WinX folder, or in the app named accordingly.

I am looking for a way to remotely install a program to other computer units running Windows on the fly ,without the need of running the installer steps on each computer (next,next,finish...) all over again , .exe installers don't usually have an easy way to do this without using the GUI installer.
a solution that i came up with , running the installer on a single pc
and try to trace each file the installer adds (location,file names,registry files) using FileSystemWatcher then copy these files and send them to the desired hosts that need the program installed with the location of each file will this work ? is there any easier implementation
the problem with FileSystemWatcher that although it detectes which files have been added,edited or deleted its not capable to tell which process did the change ,Why would i need to know ?,other programs depends alot on files and will keep editing them so i need to isolate the installer process to easily study how its functioning and what files are added..
the only way that i know to overcome this problem is developing a file system filter driver...
please give me your opinion or some recommendations on which is the best way to do this ,sorry for my bad english .
Almost every modern installer has some way to perform a silent install. You may need to do some digging to find the answers, or ask the publisher. Try running the installer with /? as a command line switch and see what it tells you.
