I need a way to add a menu through the kendo ui.. but the menu needs to be able to only show certain menu items for certain users... ie admin staff should see all menus, while other staff can only see a sub set of those menus... how can I use the authorise attribute to achieve this? any code samples or links would be very helpful
Thanks
VB
Kendo UI supports this out of the box. Just add the Authorize attribute to your actions and use the Kendo server side wrapper:
#(Html.Kendo().Menu()
.Name("menu")
.Items(items =>
{
items.Add()
.Text("Home")
.Action("Index", "Home");
})
)

http://docs.kendoui.com/api/wrappers/aspnet-mvc/Kendo.Mvc.UI.Fluent/MenuBuilder
As MVC is convention based you need to be sure you prevent the controller access via the url
On top of just hiding the menus
You’ll need to set up a custom provider so you can work with the roles easier then you’ll need to put the menu into a partial view that builds the menu dynamically.
I dug around and found a site that explains it nicely I think :
Custom provider:

role based menu:

In my case I'm using server-side session (not authClient with token in cookies/local storage). So instead of using default LogoutButton I want to place custom button which will do simple "POST /logout" action. There are some examples in docs how to place custom buttons on resource pages, but nothing about sidebar. Any advices/examples?
A custom Sidebar is a custom Menu:

We have a custom drop down and need to make it a multiSelect. Your answer gives me hope but so far, I have not figured out how this can be done. I played around how to build custom grids using JavaScript. Is it possible to make an existing custom drop-down list to a multiSelect? If it is, can be it used in the existing Rally screens or do we have to use interactive grids to be able to update the field?
Please advice on how this can be achieved.
Thank you, Rajani.
A custom dropdown cannot be turned into a custom multiselect. There are no custom fileds in Rally of mulitselect type. You may write a custom app using AppSDK2 with a MultiObjectPicker
For example, here is a rallymutiobjectpicker that allows selection of multiple testsets:
this._testSetPicker = Ext.create('Rally.ui.picker.MultiObjectPicker', {
itemId:'testsetpicker',
modelType: 'testset'
});
Later you may use _getRecordValue() to get the array of selected records:
var selectedTestSets = this._testSetPicker._getRecordValue();
A custom grid and a custom html app are not the same.
A UI component created with AppSDK2 cannot be added to a custom grid, and cannot be added to existing Rally pages, e.g. a Defect or User Story details page, or any summary page.
The MultiObjectPicker can only be used in a custom code that you write and then copy your deployment html and paste it into a custom html page.

I am new to web development..
i have created views using Entity Framework in MVC3 Razor..
What i have done yet is,
i 1st created model(Clients) and DbContext(ClientDbContext) Classes.
then, i add controller with scaffolfind options
Template: Controller with read/Write actions and View, Using Entity Framework
Model Class: Clients
Data Context Class : ClientDbContext
Views : Razor(CSHTML)
It Creates the controller class and index, Detail, Delete, Delete Views...
After that i modified the index page for search and pagination...
All are working good...
in the index page i have create, edit, delete, detail links...
When i click the links browser loads to that page and working good...
But i need to popup those views when i click the links in the index page...
i don't know how to do this... i studied many articles but i am confused...
Please help me to solve this with an efficient manner...
Thanks in advance...
Creating a model pop-up within a page isn't something that can be done directly with ASP.NET MVC. You could do it yourself using javascript & css but I would strongly recommend using a JS UI framework to do this. jQuery UI has a pop-up modal box, except they call it a dialog.
The docs for jQuery UI's dialog can be found here. Have a look through the examples to see the fine details of how to set it up. But this is the basic flow of what you need to do:
Download the jQuery UI files needed and include them on your page (CSS/JS files)
Take the html from your create/update/delete views and put it on your index page, wrap them in a div with an appropriate id
When the page loads use jquery ui to target your div's you want to be a popup
Things such as the link you want to make a dialog popup is set by passing options to the dialog initialize method, again the exact options and examples can be found on the docs page.
Refer this : http://jqueryui.com/dialog/ to create a jQuery Dialog box.
<script>
$(function() {
$( "#dialog" ).dialog();
});
</script>
<div id="dialog">
#using(Html.BeginForm()){
#Html.EditorForModel()
<input type='submit' value ='Submit'/>
}
</div>
I am currently in the process of developing a custom joomla module for one of my client’s requirement. As part of the administration panel of that module, I have created a radio button group, well in that group; I have two more radio buttons
My question for you leaders in the web arena is I need an option that "should display extra fields when I select one of the radio buttons"
For example: I have a radio button group named as 'No of fields'. In that group, I have two radio buttons named as 'Show', 'Hide'. I need an option which should display extra fields, when I select 'show' radio button
Is this equation possible? If yes, please post me your thoughts
This kind of behavior is not provided as a part of Joomla's default administration functions. You'll have to code it yourself and call that JS file when the module is opened in the backend. I would recommend you check the code used in Mod_news_pro by Gavick. The module loads a custom JS file that add a lot of custom functions and layout options that wasn't available in Joomla.
It's quite simple, just create a custom element checkout the official docs:

I am new to MVC3. In asp.net user control, its fairly easy to create a user control that has a combo box with a button, with hover over event, and a collection property of combo box that then displays a list
how do i achieve this user control (partial view) in mvc3?
What you are looking for is helper methods. You can see a good explanation of it here. In that post, there is a great link for how to do this: Creating Custom HTML Helpers.
I am also a WebForms developer originally, and I had a hard time making the connection between user controls and HTML Helpers. This should give you enough guidance to get started with what you want.
Hover over event can be done using jQuery, your combo box just needs to have a CSS class in the partial view and then the even can be hooked up to that selector.
The Collection property will be inside the View Model that your partial view binds to.
