Edited version that works :)

Since you are using wordpress, why not to use its built in ajax and send the request to admin-ajax.php. I see that you are sending it to search.php, which is not a good approach especially for security.
Write your php code to be executed in functions.php and add actions.
This page is containing in its answer the detailed way to do so: Dynamically changing navigation links (next and previous) in Wordpress via AJAX
good luck, I am here to assist you

Im new to ajax. I was trying to find the answer but was not lucky to find the corresponsing one. Basically I need to use an ajax to get some data and after that to put this data to the variable that later will be used as an attribute for the callback function with custom code.
This ajax part is just a method of myObject.
So, in the end I need this kind of functionality:
myObject.getData(url, callback(data) {
//my custom code of what I wanna do after ajax is complete
});
My code
/*
HERE COME SOME PROPERTIES AND OTHER METHODS WICH IS NOT THE CASE
*/
//This is where Im stuck
var getData = function getFromUrl($url) {
$.ajax({
type: 'get',
url: $url,
dataType: 'html',
success: function(html) {
$obj = html;//Im lost on this step!
},
});
};
P.S. Im trying to find an async way (without using async:false). Hope its possible
First I encountered many problems. My first problem was No Access-Control-Allow-Origin, most websites dont allow you to just scrap get their data for security reasons. Luckily someone already made a proxy: http://cors.io/ . Second problem is that you cant embed http on https, so I cant use jsfiddle to show you this working, it works on my local enviroment. After you get the raw html you have to parse it, you can do it with full regex, or you can power yourself with jquery like I'm doing on this example. What we're doing is checking stackoverflow.com and getting the amount of featured questions with .find(".bounty-indicator-tab").first().html(); But once you have the full html you can get any data you need.
var getData = function getFromUrl(url) {
$.ajax({
url: 'http://cors.io/?' + url,
crossDomain: true,
dataType: 'html',
success: function (html) {
var match = $(html).find(".bounty-indicator-tab").first().html();
console.log(match);
return match;
},
error: function(e) {
console.log('Error: '+e);
}
});
};
url = 'http://stackoverflow.com/';
data = getData(url);
//You cant use data yet because its working async
I have the following ajax code that takes in 3 variables and passes them to a php file, and this is all fine and dandy. I want to do a redirect using the value stored in one of these variables. I figured I could just do window.location.href = within the success in the ajax call, but for some reason, it doesn't seem to respond to the click, and simply does nothing.
Here is the ajax function, hope y'all can help!
$("#findItem").click(function() {
if (navigator.geolocation) {
navigator.geolocation.getCurrentPosition(function(position){
$.ajax({
type: 'get',
url: 'http://plato.cs.virginia.edu/~aam3xd/cabbage/closestBuildingWeb.php',
data: {
foodItemId: $('#foodItem').val(),
sentLongitude: position.coords.longitude,
sentLatitude: position.coords.latitude
},
success: function(data){
//$('#answer').html(data);
//the following line doesn't seem to be executing....
window.location.href = foodItemId+"/"+sentLatitude+"/"+sentLongitude;
}
});
});
I think you should use your url into that window.location
window.location.href = "www.example.com/"+foodItemId+"/"+sentLatitude+"/"+sentLongitude;
I'm trying to set up a token on ajax post but is not getting recognized by the controllers method. The javascrip looks as it follows
jQuery(document).ready(function() {
jQuery('#source').change(function() {
jQuery('#fileupload').addClass('fileupload-processing');
var data = jQuery('#source option:selected').val();
jQuery.post('index.php', {
'option': 'com_tieraerzte',
'task': 'parser.importColumns',
'tmpl': 'component',
'token':'<?php echo JUtility::getToken()?>',
'app': data,
'dataType': 'html',
}, function(result) {
jQuery('td.add_column').html(result);
jQuery('button#parse.btn').show();
//edit the result here
return;
});
});
the token is getting generated and posted
in the controller I check the existance of toke but throws me Invalid Token
controller check toke
JRequest::checkToken('request') or jexit( 'Invalid Token' );
You're almost there, it's just a little mixed up. The Joomla! Form Token is generated and submitted as a input name with a value of 1. So, the token looks like this in your form:
<input type="hidden" name="1LKJFO39UKSDJF1LO8UFANL34R" value="1" />
With that in mind, when submitting via AJAX, you need to set the parameter name to your token name, with a value of 1. I accomplish something similar by just using the jQuery('selector').serialize() method:
Joomla.autoSave = function () {
jQuery.ajax({
url: "index.php?option=com_gazebos&task=product.apply&tmpl=component",
type: "POST",
data: jQuery("#product-form").serialize(),
success: function (data) {
console.log("autosaved");
}
});
};
Doing this pulls in all the form data (including the form token from the hidden input) and formats it as a query string, then sends it with the request. However, it seems to me that you might not want to do that and you are really only wanting to submit a single bit of data, not the whole form. So, let's rework your code a little bit to get the desired effect:
/**
* First, let's alias $ to jQuery inside this block,
* then setup a var to hold our select list dom object.
*/
jQuery(document).ready(function ($) {
var sourceSelect = $('#source');
sourceSelect.change(function () {
$('#fileupload').addClass('fileupload-processing');
/**
* Use the token as a parameter name and 1 as the value,
* and move the dataType param to after the success method.
*/
$.post('index.php',
{
'option': 'com_tieraerzte',
'task': 'parser.importColumns',
'tmpl': 'component',
'app': sourceSelect.val(),
'<?php echo JSession::getFormToken()?>': 1
},
function(result) {
$('td.add_column').html(result);
$('button#parse.btn').show();
//edit the result here
return;
},
'html'
);
});
});
Finally, this code is assuming you have this js code either in your view.html.php or in your views/parser/tmpl/default.php. If you have it in a separate .js file, then your php code won't execute and give you the token.
In your ajax call method use url as :
$.ajax({
url: '/index.php?option=com_itemreview&task=item.userReviewVote&<?php echo JSession::getFormToken(); ?>=1',
type: 'post',
data: {'data': submitvalue},
dataType: 'json',
success: function(response) {
}
});

Aim - to get the twitter followers of a particular user using javascript
I have tried the below code as a POC-
$(document).ready(function() {
// Handler for .ready() called.
$.ajax({
url: "https://api.twitter.com/1.1/followers/ids.json?callback=?",
type: "GET",
data: { cursor: "-1",
screen_name: "twitterapi" },
cache: false,
dataType: 'json',
success: function(data) { alert('hello!'); console.log(data);},
error: function(html) { alert(html); },
beforeSend: setHeader
});
function setHeader(xhr) {
if(xhr && xhr.overrideMimeType) {
xhr.overrideMimeType("application/j-son;charset=UTF-8");
}
//var nonce = freshNonce();
//var timestamp = freshTimestamp();
//var signature = sign(nonce,timestamp);
//alert(signature);
//alert(accessToken+"-"+consumerKey);
//alert(oauth_version+"-"+oauth_signature_method);
xhr.setRequestHeader('Authorization','OAuth');
xhr.setRequestHeader('oauth_consumer_key', 'HdFdA3C3pzTBzbHvPMPw');
xhr.setRequestHeader('oauth_nonce', '4148fa6e3dca3c3d22a8315dfb4ea5bb');
xhr.setRequestHeader('oauth_signature','uDZP2scUz6FUKwFie4FtCtJfdNE%3D');
xhr.setRequestHeader('oauth_signature_method', 'HMAC-SHA1');
xhr.setRequestHeader('oauth_timestamp', '1359955650');
xhr.setRequestHeader('oauth_token', '1127121421-aPHZHQ5BCUoqfHER2UYhQYUEm0zPEMr9xJYizXl');
xhr.setRequestHeader('oauth_version', '1.0');
}
});
I calculated the signature values from the Twitter OAuth tool ..
This gives me 400 Bad Request error ....
Please let me know what the problem is...
The problem is your request's header, it should be like this:
xhr.setRequestHeader('Authorization','OAuth oauth_consumer_key="HdFdA3C3pzTBzbHvPMPw", oauth_nonce="4148fa6e3dca3c3d22a8315dfb4ea5bb", oauth_signature="uDZP2scUz6FUKwFie4FtCtJfdNE%3D", oauth_signature_method="HMAC-SHA1", oauth_timestamp= "1359955650", oauth_token, "1127121421-aPHZHQ5BCUoqfHER2UYhQYUEm0zPEMr9xJYizXl", oauth_version="1.0"');
Btw, this javascript library might help you on OAuth's stuff: oauth-1.0a
It support both client side and node.js
Cheers
The oauth_* fields are all part of the Authorization header string, so they need to be concatenated as shown at the bottom of this page - https://dev.twitter.com/docs/auth/authorizing-request
They should not be presented as separate header fields.
I need to load an image if if hasn't been loaded yet.
For this i'm using the error function like this:
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "inc/functions.php",
data: { productID: productIDVal, action: "addToCart"},
success: function(theResponse) {
busy=false;
$('#buyButton')
.error(function(){
var t = $("<img id='buyButton' src='images/checkout.png' />");
$.append(t);
});
}
});
But it is not working. Am i doing something wrong here?
Thanks in advance.
You need to specify where to append the image:
$('#buyButton').append(t); // NOT $.append(t);
// OR $(this).append(t);

Some general tips on debugging javascript.
Quick and dirty: Put an alert message on the first line of the error function like alert('inside error'). Then load the page and see if the alert message shows up. You can put variables inside the alert message to see what their values are. If you don't see an alert message it means that the code is not even being loaded for some reason, so you have to put an alert message at an earlier point. (This can get very tedious).
Better way: Start using Firebug or Safari's Web Inspector to debug the javascript. Just put debugger anywhere in your code and when the browser gets to that line of code, it will stop and give you a console with access to all variables and functions available at that point in the code.
The problem may be with the AJAX request. See what it is returning by trying this code:
$.ajax({
type: "POST",
url: "inc/functions.php",
data: { productID: productIDVal, action: "addToCart"},
success: function(data){ alert('success!'); },
error: function(XMLHttpRequest, textStatus, errorThrown){ alert(errorThrown) ;}
})
You can replace the alert messages with debugger to do further inspection of what is going on with Firebug.
you should move the code to error block
remove from the success block
error: function(request,error) {
var t = $("<img id='buyButton' src='images/checkout.png' />");
$(this).append(t);
}
the skeleton goes like this
$.ajax({
},
beforeSend: function() {
},
error: function(request,error) {
var t = $("<img id='buyButton' src='images/checkout.png' />");
$(this).append(t);
},
success: function(request) {
} // End success
}); // End ajax method
