Issue with validation when model has three belongsTo associations with another model - validation

Some validation messages are missing on my form, though they are correct in the result of invalidMessages(). If I enter the last name for the ATCSTudent.lastName, then I don't get a validation message for lastName on ATCGradChair1. I tried fix for 3828 but it doesn't work.
I have a model with this belongs to:
public $belongsTo = array(
'ATCStudent' => array('className' => 'Person', 'foreignKey' => 'studentId'),
'ATCProgram' => array('className' => 'Program', 'foreignKey' => 'programId'),
'ATCGradChair1' => array('type' => 'inner', 'className' => 'Person', 'foreignKey' => 'gradChair1Id'),
'ATCGradChair2' => array('className' => 'Person', 'foreignKey' => 'gradChair2Id'),
);
My view looks like this:
echo $this->Form->create('ATCForm', array('novalidate' => true));
echo $this->Form->input('id');
//echo $this->Form->input('ATCStudent.id');
echo $this->Form->input('ATCStudent.lastName');
echo $this->Form->input('ATCStudent.firstName');
echo $this->Form->input('ATCStudent.emplId');
echo $this->Form->input('ATCStudent.campusId');
echo $this->Form->input('ATCStudent.email');
echo $this->Form->input('progCode', array('type'=>'select','options'=>$programs));
echo $this->Form->input('termCode', array('type'=>'select','options'=>$terms));
echo $this->Form->input('prelimDate');
echo "<p>Enter below only cross-listed courses and/or courses taken at another institution.
";
echo $this->Form->input('cognate');
//echo $this->Form->input('ATCGradChair1.id');
echo $this->Form->inputs(array('legend'=> 'Graduate Chair 1', 'ATCGradChair1.firstName', 'ATCGradChair1.lastName', 'ATCGradChair1.campusId'));
//echo $this->Form->input('ATCGradChair2.id');
echo $this->Form->inputs(array('legend'=> 'Graduate Chair 2', 'ATCGradChair2.firstName', 'ATCGradChair2.lastName', 'ATCGradChair2.campusId'));
echo $this->Form->end('Submit');
Most fields are required. I'm using saveAll with deep option to save and validate. It appears that the call to _introspectModel in tagIsInvalid does not return the correct array of validation messages when it's checking the fields on ATCGradChair1.
Is my view incorrect or is this a bug?

Codeigniter 3/ form_multiselect / Cannot understand how to do validation

I have the following in my view among other fields:
echo form_multiselect('person_tags[]', $options, set_value('person_tags[]'), $atribute_tag);
The above produces a list of tags, as expected. More than one choice can be made from the list, as expected.
When the form is submitted, validation is run as follows;
$this->form_validation->set_rules('person_tags[]', 'Tags', 'required');
If there are other validation errors, the form re-appears with a list of validation errors but, unfortunately, it doesn't repopulate the form_multiselect() with the originally selected items, as expected. Also, I noticed that if I remove the validation rule for person_tags, when there are other errors on the form, person_tags multiselect() repopulations the list with the originally selected items. How is validation supposed to work? It seems to remove or transform the post.
Instead of defining set_value() with name[], try providing it without them. I created a demo and it works for me. See if this works for you as well.
View
<?php
$attributes = array('method' => 'POST');
echo form_open('home/form', $attributes);
$options = array(
'small' => 'Small Shirt',
'med' => 'Medium Shirt',
'large' => 'Large Shirt',
'xlarge' => 'Extra Large Shirt',
);
$attribute_tag = array(
'class' => 'some-class',
);
// this is the one you should be paying attention to ↓↓
echo form_multiselect('person_tags[]', $options, set_value('person_tags'), $attribute_tag);
$data = array(
'type' => 'text',
'name' => 'email',
'id' => 'email',
);
echo form_input($data, set_value('email'));
echo form_submit('mysubmit', 'Submit Post!');
echo form_close();
?>
Controller
function form(){
$this->load->library('form_validation');
$this->form_validation->set_rules('person_tags[]', 'Tags', 'required');
$this->form_validation->set_rules('email', 'text', 'required');
if ($this->form_validation->run() == FALSE){
$this->load->view('vwHome');
}else{
echo 'No validation error'; die; // save in database(Your logic)
}
}
TL;DR
Change your current code to-
echo form_multiselect('person_tags[]', $options, set_value('person_tags'), $attribute_tag);

CodeIgniter 2 and Ion Auth - edit own user account

I am using the latest Ion Auth files along with the latest version of CodeIgniter 2.
There is a function called edit_user within the auth.php Controller file. This function is restricted to use only by members within the "Admin" group, and any Admin member can edit any other member using the function via this URL...
/auth/edit_user/id
The problem is that I don't see any Controller function or View that allows a regular (non-Admin) user to edit their own account details.
Would this be a new Controller function I'd need to write (modify edit_user function?) or is this something that Ion Auth should already do? If so, how?
Here is the stock Ion Auth edit_user function contained within the auth.php Controller...
function edit_user($id)
{
$this->data['title'] = "Edit User";
if (!$this->ion_auth->logged_in() || !$this->ion_auth->is_admin())
{
redirect('auth', 'refresh');
}
$user = $this->ion_auth->user($id)->row();
//process the phone number
if (isset($user->phone) && !empty($user->phone))
{
$user->phone = explode('-', $user->phone);
}
//validate form input
$this->form_validation->set_rules('first_name', 'First Name', 'required|xss_clean');
$this->form_validation->set_rules('last_name', 'Last Name', 'required|xss_clean');
$this->form_validation->set_rules('phone1', 'First Part of Phone', 'required|xss_clean|min_length[3]|max_length[3]');
$this->form_validation->set_rules('phone2', 'Second Part of Phone', 'required|xss_clean|min_length[3]|max_length[3]');
$this->form_validation->set_rules('phone3', 'Third Part of Phone', 'required|xss_clean|min_length[4]|max_length[4]');
$this->form_validation->set_rules('company', 'Company Name', 'required|xss_clean');
if (isset($_POST) && !empty($_POST))
{
// do we have a valid request?
if ($this->_valid_csrf_nonce() === FALSE || $id != $this->input->post('id'))
{
show_error('This form post did not pass our security checks.');
}
$data = array(
'first_name' => $this->input->post('first_name'),
'last_name' => $this->input->post('last_name'),
'company' => $this->input->post('company'),
'phone' => $this->input->post('phone1') . '-' . $this->input->post('phone2') . '-' . $this->input->post('phone3'),
);
//update the password if it was posted
if ($this->input->post('password'))
{
$this->form_validation->set_rules('password', 'Password', 'required|min_length[' . $this->config->item('min_password_length', 'ion_auth') . ']|max_length[' . $this->config->item('max_password_length', 'ion_auth') . ']|matches[password_confirm]');
$this->form_validation->set_rules('password_confirm', 'Password Confirmation', 'required');
$data['password'] = $this->input->post('password');
}
if ($this->form_validation->run() === TRUE)
{
$this->ion_auth->update($user->id, $data);
//check to see if we are creating the user
//redirect them back to the admin page
$this->session->set_flashdata('message', "User Saved");
redirect("auth", 'refresh');
}
}
//display the edit user form
$this->data['csrf'] = $this->_get_csrf_nonce();
//set the flash data error message if there is one
$this->data['message'] = (validation_errors() ? validation_errors() : ($this->ion_auth->errors() ? $this->ion_auth->errors() : $this->session->flashdata('message')));
//pass the user to the view
$this->data['user'] = $user;
$this->data['first_name'] = array(
'name' => 'first_name',
'id' => 'first_name',
'type' => 'text',
'value' => $this->form_validation->set_value('first_name', $user->first_name),
);
$this->data['last_name'] = array(
'name' => 'last_name',
'id' => 'last_name',
'type' => 'text',
'value' => $this->form_validation->set_value('last_name', $user->last_name),
);
$this->data['company'] = array(
'name' => 'company',
'id' => 'company',
'type' => 'text',
'value' => $this->form_validation->set_value('company', $user->company),
);
$this->data['phone1'] = array(
'name' => 'phone1',
'id' => 'phone1',
'type' => 'text',
'value' => $this->form_validation->set_value('phone1', $user->phone[0]),
);
$this->data['phone2'] = array(
'name' => 'phone2',
'id' => 'phone2',
'type' => 'text',
'value' => $this->form_validation->set_value('phone2', $user->phone[1]),
);
$this->data['phone3'] = array(
'name' => 'phone3',
'id' => 'phone3',
'type' => 'text',
'value' => $this->form_validation->set_value('phone3', $user->phone[2]),
);
$this->data['password'] = array(
'name' => 'password',
'id' => 'password',
'type' => 'password'
);
$this->data['password_confirm'] = array(
'name' => 'password_confirm',
'id' => 'password_confirm',
'type' => 'password'
);
$this->load->view('auth/edit_user', $this->data);
}
Unless I'm missing something, I ended up modifying the edit_user function within the auth.php Controller as follows.
I changed this line which checks to see that the user is "not logged in" OR "not an admin" before dumping them out...
if (!$this->ion_auth->logged_in() || !$this->ion_auth->is_admin())
{
redirect('auth', 'refresh');
}
...into this, which check to see that the user is "not logged in" OR ("not an admin" AND "not the user") before dumping them out...
if (!$this->ion_auth->logged_in() || (!$this->ion_auth->is_admin() && !($this->ion_auth->user()->row()->id == $id)))
This seems to be working...
Admin can edit all accounts
User can only edit his own account
and somebody not logged in, can't edit any account.
Edit: However, the user also has access to the "groups" setting and could simply put themself into the "admin" group. Not good.
Ion Auth's developer refers to the files he provides as working "examples". Therefore, it's up to the end-developer to edit Ion Auth to suit the needs of the project.
To prevent the user from being able to make himself an "admin" requires a simple change to the edit_user.php view file.
Verifies the user is already an "admin" before creating the checkboxes...
<?php if ($this->ion_auth->is_admin()): ?>
// code that generates Groups checkboxes
<?php endif ?>
Then you'll also need to thoroughly test and adjust as needed. For example, after editing a user profile, you're redirected to the auth view. Since the user doesn't have permission to see the auth view, there is a "must be an admin" error. In the controller file, you'll have to add the appropriate logic to properly redirect the user when they're not an "admin".
No Ion Auth doesn't do this as is - it's pretty light weight. But it's not hard to do and your on the right track, just grab that edit_user method and take out the admin checks and make it so the user can only edit their own account, just alter it so that it only updates user details for the currently logged in user.
Check the ion auth docs, have a crack at it and come back with some code if you have any problems.

How to put drop down list into array using codeigniter

I use the ion auth for codeigniter and it works great except that I don't know how to code drop down list the same way as the text field.
If you want to display a text field under view you have to issue this:
<?php echo form_input($first_name);?>
And this is the code under controller:
$this->data['first_name'] = array(
'name' => 'first_name',
'id' => 'first_name',
'type' => 'text',
'size' => 32,
'maxlength' => 32,
'value' => $this->form_validation->set_value('first_name'),
);
But how can I put the value of my drop down list into an array?
I tried putting this code under view:
<?php
$options = array(
'' => 'Select',
'Dr' => 'Dr.',
'Mr' => 'Mr.',
'Mrs' => 'Mrs.',
'Ms' => 'Ms.',
'Prof' => 'Prof.',
'Mr. & Mrs.' => 'Mr. & Mrs.',
);
echo form_dropdown('title', $options, '$title');
?>
I am thinking that under view I should code it like: echo form_dropdown($title); the same as text field but what is the code under controller?
First in your controller you can do :
$options = array(
'0' => 'Select',
'Dr' => 'Dr.',
'Mr' => 'Mr.',
'Mrs' => 'Mrs.',
'Ms' => 'Ms.',
'Prof' => 'Prof.',
'Mr. & Mrs.' => 'Mr. & Mrs.',
);
$data['options'] = $options
$this->load->view('your_view',$data);
In the View :
echo form_dropdown('title', $options, set_value('title'));
Moreover think you want to retain the value of the dropdown if a form validation error occurs:
you just need to put some validation to retain the values of the dropdown , somethin like:
$this->form_validation->set_rules('title','Titles','alpha');
If not validatted the dropdown will not retain the values in spite of using set_value

CakePHP 2 & Translate Behavior: save multiple translations in a single form

Its possibile save multiple translations of the same field in a single form?
I have a model with Behavior Translate to translate the name field. The three translations (deu, eng, ita) are properly recorded in the i18n table but the field is not properly validated! Any suggestions?
app/Model/Category.php
class Category extends AppModel {
public $actsAs = array('Translate' => array('name' => 'TranslateName'));
public $validate = array(
'name' => array(
'notempty' => array(
'rule' => array('notempty'),
'message' => 'Error notempty',
),
),
);
...
app/View/Categories/admin_edit.ctp
<?php
echo $this->Form->create('Category');
echo $this->Form->input('Category.id');
echo $this->Form->input('Category.name.deu', array('label' => __d('Category', 'Name Deu')));
echo $this->Form->input('Category.name.eng', array('label' => __d('Category', 'Name Eng')));
echo $this->Form->input('Category.name.ita', array('label' => __d('Category', 'Name Ita')));
echo $this->Form->end(__d('app', 'Submit'));
?>
app/View/Controller/CategoriesController.php
if ($this->Category->save($this->request->data)) {
$this->Session->setFlash(__d('Category', 'The category has been saved'));
} else {
$this->Session->setFlash(__d('Category', 'The category could not be saved. Please, try again.'));
}
I have a similar Problem
But you can try out this - it should solve it for you: https://github.com/zoghal/cakephp-MultiTranslateBehavior

CakePHP "Agree TOS" Checkbox Validation

I am trying to have a Checkbox "Agree TOS".
If the Checkbox is not checked, I want to put out a Flash Message.
How do I do this?
My View:
<?php
echo $form->create('Item', array('url' => array_merge(array('action' => 'find'), $this->params['pass'])));
echo $form->input('Search', array('div' => false));
echo $form->submit(__('Search', true), array('div' => false));
echo $form->checkbox('tos', array('label' => false, 'value'=>1)).' Agree TOS';
echo $form->error('tos');
echo $form->end();
?>
My Model:
var $check = array(
'tos' => array(
'rule' => array('comparison', 'equal to', 1),
'required' => true,
'allowEmpty' => false,
'on' => 'index',
'message' => 'You have to agree TOS'
));
This seems working for me. Hope it will help.
In model:
'tos' => array(
'notEmpty' => array(
'rule' => array('comparison', '!=', 0),
'required' => true,
'message' => 'Please check this box if you want to proceed.'
)
In view:
<?php echo $this->Form->input('tos', array('type'=>'checkbox', 'label'=>__('I confirm I have read the privacy statement.', true), 'hiddenField' => false, 'value' => '0')); ?>
Model
'agreed' => array(
'notempty' => array(
'rule' => array('comparison', '!=', 0),//'checkAgree',
'message' => ''You have to agree TOS'',
'allowEmpty' => false,
'required' => true,
'last' => true, // Stop validation after this rule
'on' => 'signup', // Limit validation to 'create' or 'update' operations
),
),
View
<?php echo $this->Form->input('agreed',array('value'=>'0'),array('type'=>'checkbox', 'label'=>'Agree to TOS')); ?>
basically, you add the rule "notEmpty" for this field to the public $validate array of the model.
this way an error will get triggered on Model->validates() if the checkbox has not been checked.
maybe some overhead in your case, but if you happen to use it more often try a DRY (dont repeat yourself) approach. you can also use a behavior for this to use this clean and without tempering too much with the model/controller:
// view form
echo $this->Form->input('confirmation', array('type'=>'checkbox', 'label'=>__('Yes, I actually read it', true)));
and in the controller action
// if posted
$this->Model->Behaviors->attach(array('Tools.Confirmable'=>array('field'=>'confirmation', 'message'=>'My custom message')));
$this->Model->set($this->data);
if ($this->Model->validates()) {
// OK
} else {
// Error flash message here
}

I believe you need try save it into your model to catch your tos rules. I should do something like =
if(!$mymodel->save()){
// catch error tos.
}
$this->ModelName->invalidFields() returns an array of fields that failed validation.
You could try and search this for the tos field, and output a message if the key exists.
~untested (I'm not sure off the top of my head the exact structure of the invalidFields return array.
$failed_fields = $this->ModelName->invalidFields();
if(array_key_exists('tos', $failed_fields)) {
$this->Session->setFlash('Please accept the terms and conditions');
}
you don't even have to have validation rule for tos, just check that at the controller before saving the data.
if($this->data['Model']['tos']==1){
// save data
}else{
//set flash
}
