AJAX not firing in JSF 2.0 - ajax

I have a problem that my AJAX requests are not firing in JSF, for unknown reasons.
admin.xhtml Snippet:
<h:form id="adminPanel">
...
<f:subview id="editCustomer#{customer.id}">
<p class="#{adminService.getEditCustomerClass(customer.id)}">
<h:inputText id="email#{customer.id}" value="#{adminService.customerEmail}"/><br/>
<h:inputText id="firstName#{customer.id}" value="#{adminService.customerFirstName}"/>
<h:inputText id="lastName#{customer.id}" value="#{adminService.customerLastName}"/><br/>
<h:commandButton id="saveEdit#{customer.id}" type="button" value="Save">
<f:ajax render="#form" event="click" listener="#{adminService.saveCustomer()}"/>
</h:commandButton>
<h:commandButton id="cancelEdit#{customer.id}" type="button" value="Cancel">
<f:ajax render="#form" event="click" listener="#{adminService.cancelEdit()}"/>
</h:commandButton>
</p>
</f:subview>
...
</h:form>
AdminService.java Snippet:
#Named
#Stateless
#LocalBean
public class AdminService {
public String getEditCustomerClass(int id) {
return id != customerId ? "hidden" : "";
}
public void saveCustomer() {
cancelEdit();
}
public void cancelEdit() {
movieId = -1;
customerId = -1;
orderId = -1;
actorId = -1;
employeeId = -1; //if none of the id's match, p should return 'hidden' class and not be seen.
}
}
Originally I had problems because instead of hiding and showing with CSS, I was using the "rendered=" attribute. However, I heard that partial rendering of views can break AJAX, so I phased it out, hoping that not partially rendering the view (only hiding and showing it) would fix the problem.
However this ajax is still not calling the method I specified in the listener attribute (the entire page is a lot bigger and uses a lot more AJAX, though the rest of it works until these buttons are pressed, then other ajax buttons stop responding.)
If I change the button type to submit, it will actually perform the listener method if I press the button twice, but then the other ajax links don't call their respective listener methods.
How can I get this to work?
Update:
Here is the information from POST request that JSF fires on click:

Update 2:
When I switch to commandButtons of type "submit" without AJAX, it works as expected (except some of the buttons requires two clicks to activate). So the problem is localized to the f:ajax tags.
Update 3:
The entire base of code for admin.xhtml. IT's a bit unclean because it's in the process of being debugged and trying things to make it work.

I found the answer, and the cause of it is really quite strange, but it makes sense.
In my ID's, I was using EL to define unique ID's for UIComponents (even though this was not necessary). When I remove the EL from the ID's, the ajax works!
I'm presuming (though I'm sure BalusC would give a more thorough answer), was that because the id's aren't static, even though the ID in concept would be the same, it was affecting the way JSF finds UIComponents.
Now I feel dumb, because the problem would've been completely avoidable if I didn't add any superfluous elements.
For example, the code in my original post should be as follows:
<h:form id="adminPanel">
...
<f:subview id="editCustomer">
<p class="#{adminService.getEditCustomerClass(customer.id)}">
<h:inputText id="email" value="#{adminService.customerEmail}"/><br/>
<h:inputText id="firstName" value="#{adminService.customerFirstName}"/>
<h:inputText id="lastName" value="#{adminService.customerLastName}"/><br/>
<h:commandButton id="saveEdit" type="button" value="Save">
<f:ajax render="#form" event="click" listener="#{adminService.saveCustomer()}"/>
</h:commandButton>
<h:commandButton id="cancelEdit" type="button" value="Cancel">
<f:ajax render="#form" event="click" listener="#{adminService.cancelEdit()}"/>
</h:commandButton>
</p>
</f:subview>
...
</h:form>

Is there any reason for submitting the form by the Javascript Event onclick?
I suggest you to call the action like this:
<h:commandButton id="saveEdit#{customer.id}" value="Submit" actionListener="#{adminService.saveCustomer()}">
<f:ajax render="#form" execute="#form"/>
</h:commandButton>

JSF 2 partial Validation without RichFaces

I have the next jsf form with 2 parts
1) Header Form
2) Datatable Fields
I want add validation to 2 parts, but when i will do post the header form the validation of datatable is not necessary, and when i do update row datatable the validation of the header form is not necessary. My Problem is that when i do post the update row datatable, the jsf wants validate the header form..
My question is..
Using only JSF 2 Implementation without rich faces or another library, how to i do to jsf to validate a partial form? what is the best way to manage subforms?
Thanks,
This is my example Code
<h:form styleClass="horizontal-form" id="form">
<h:messages></h:messages>
<h3>
<h:outputText value="#{msgs.title}"></h:outputText>
</h3>
<table>
<tr>
<td><h:outputLabel for="userName" id="nameLbl">Name</h:outputLabel></td>
<td><h:inputText id="userName" value="#{actionBean.name}"
styleClass="form-control" required="true" /> <h:message
for="userName"></h:message></td>
</tr>
<tr>
<td>Monto:</td>
<td><h:inputText id="userAmount" value="#{actionBean.amount}"
label="Edad" /> <h:message for="userAmount"></h:message></td>
</tr>
</table>
<div>
Datatable
<h:dataTable value="#{actionBean.items}" var="item" id="datatable">
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value="Nombre"></h:outputText>
</f:facet>
<h:outputText value="#{item.data.name}" rendered="#{!item.edit}"></h:outputText>
<h:inputText id="inputName" value="#{item.editData.name}" required="true"
rendered="#{item.edit}"></h:inputText>
</h:column>
<h:column>
<f:facet name="header">
<h:outputText value="Actions"></h:outputText>
</f:facet>
<h:commandButton value="Edit"
action="#{actionBean.edit(item)}" rendered="#{!item.edit}"
immediate="true" styleClass="btn btn-sm btn-primary">
<f:ajax execute="form" render="form" />
</h:commandButton>
<h:commandButton value="Update"
action="#{actionBean.update(item)}" rendered="#{item.edit}"
styleClass="btn btn-sm btn-primary ">
<f:ajax execute="datatable" render="form" />
</h:commandButton>
</h:column>
</h:dataTable>
</div>
<p>
<h:commandButton value="Login" action="#{actionBean.count}"
styleClass="btn btn-sm btn-primary">
<f:ajax execute="form" render="form datatable_form" />
</h:commandButton>
<h:commandButton value="Begin" action="index" immediate="true"
styleClass="btn btn-sm btn-primary" />
</p>
</h:form>
It's probably happening because you are trying to update the whole form instead of just the datatable.
Example:
<h:commandButton value="Edit"
action="#{actionBean.edit(item)}" rendered="#{!item.edit}"
immediate="true" styleClass="btn btn-sm btn-primary">
<f:ajax execute="form" render="form" />
</h:commandButton>
In this case you should try to execute/render just the datable you want do validate, just like this:
<h:commandButton value="Edit"
action="#{actionBean.edit(item)}" rendered="#{!item.edit}"
immediate="true" styleClass="btn btn-sm btn-primary">
<f:ajax execute="datatable" render="datatable" />
</h:commandButton>

AJAX on an included page through AJAX

I have a page in which through AJAX I include other pages conditionally. On one included page I would like to do another ajax call.
My initial page:
<ui:composition template="../../templates/template.xhtml">
<ui:define name="title">
Pay
</ui:define>
<ui:define name="content">
<h:form>
<div id="loginDiv">
<div class="homeDiv" style="text-align: left;">
<h:form>
<h:outputText value="#{strings.paymentMainSpeech} " />
<ul id="grileList">
<li>#{strings.payThroughSMS}</li>
<li>#{strings.payThroughCard}</li>
<li>#{strings.payThroughPayPal}</li>
</ul>
<h:outputText value="#{strings.bellowYouHavePaymentOptions}" />
</h:form>
</div>
<h:selectOneRadio value="#{payment.option}" immediate="true">
<f:selectItem itemValue="#{strings.payThroughSMS}"
itemLabel="#{strings.payThroughSMS}" />
<f:selectItem itemValue="#{strings.payThroughCard}"
itemLabel="#{strings.payThroughCard}" />
<f:selectItem itemValue="#{strings.payThroughPayPal}"
itemLabel="#{strings.payThroughPayPal}" />
<f:ajax event="change" listener="#{payment.changeListener()}"
render="payment" />
</h:selectOneRadio>
</div>
<h:panelGroup id="payment">
<!-- PayPal -->
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{payment.option == 'PayPal'}">
<ui:include src="../payments/paypal/paypal.xhtml" />
</h:panelGroup>
<!-- CARD -->
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{payment.option == 'Card'}">
<ui:include src="../payments/card/mobilPay.xhtml" />
</h:panelGroup>
</h:panelGroup>
</h:form>
</ui:define>
I select from the radio buttons the pages which I want to include through an ajax listener. That works well.
On one included page (on mobilPay.xhtml)
<ui:composition>
<ui:define name="title">
Pay Card Mobil Pay
</ui:define>
<div id="loginDiv">
<h:panelGroup id="next">
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{not mobilPayInitBean.forward}">
<h:outputText value="#{strings.paymentSpeech} " />
<h:outputText value="#{strings.paymentSpeech} " />
<h:outputText value=" #{strings.paymentSpeech2}" />
<br />
<br />
<h:form>
<h:selectOneMenu value="#{mobilPayInitBean.options}">
<f:selectItem itemValue="five" itemLabel="#{strings.fiveEuro}" />
<f:selectItem itemValue="seven" itemLabel="#{strings.sevenEuro}" />
<f:selectItem itemValue="ten" itemLabel="#{strings.tenEuro}" />
</h:selectOneMenu>
<br />
<br />
<f:ajax render="next">
<h:commandButton value="#{strings.nextStep}"
action="#{mobilPayInitBean.nextStep()}"
rendered="#{not mobilPayInitBean.forward}" />
</f:ajax>
</h:form>
</h:panelGroup>
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{mobilPayInitBean.forward}">
<div id="loginDiv">
<form name="frmPaymentRedirect" method="post"
action="#{mobilPayInitBean.paymentURL}">
<input type="hidden" name="env_key"
value="#{mobilPayInitBean.paymentURL}" /> <input type="hidden"
name="data" value="#{mobilPayInitBean.paymentURL}" />
<p>
If not reditect in 5 seconds <input type="image"
src="images/12792_mobilpay-96x30.gif" />
</p>
</form>
</div>
<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
window.setTimeout(document.frmPaymentRedirect.submit(), 3000);
</script>
</h:panelGroup>
</h:panelGroup>
</div>
I want to select from the select one menu an item and click on the command button and I want the whole selectonemenu and the command button to disaper and the last form (name="frmPaymentRedirect")to appear.
Now the problem:
I include the mobilPay.xhtml page and the whole page with the radiobuttons and the mobilPay.xhtml page appears, BUT when I click on the command button the hole mobilPay.xhtml disappears and so does the selection in the radio button.
Thank you for your time.
It was the nested forms!!!
I used a master template -> child template -> included page.
In the child template a had a form and inside the form I inserted the pages and in the one inserted page I had another set of form.
Thank you for pointing that obvious thing out!!!

How to trigger an ajax event listener on click of p:graphicImage?

I want to do some processing when the user click on the p:graphicsImage inside a ui:repeat
How do i do it.
<ui:repeat id="repeat" value="#{getData.image}" var="imageLst" varStatus="loop">
<h:panelGroup>
<p:graphicImage id="gi1" value="#{imageStreamer.image}" alt="image not available" >
<f:param name="id" value="#{imageLst.imageID}" />
<p:ajax id="aj2" event="click" listener="#{getData.searchID}" immediate="true" update=":form:tabView:check :form:growl"/>
</p:graphicImage>
</h:panelGroup>
</ui:repeat>
In the above code if i place the ajax part doesn't get triggered.
How do i monitor a Click on the 'p:graphicImage'
The <p:graphicImage> doesn't support any ajax events.
Just wrap it in a <h:commandLink> (or the p: one).
<h:commandLink>
<p:graphicImage id="gi1" value="#{imageStreamer.image}" alt="image not available" >
<f:param name="id" value="#{imageLst.imageID}" />
</p:graphicImage>
<p:ajax id="aj2" listener="#{getData.searchID}" update=":form:tabView:check :form:growl"/>
</h:commandLink>

how to do partial page rendering (center content) with jsf2 templating via ajax (from menu)

i have been struggling getting this to work for 2 weeks, I am trying to merge info from BalusC from these 2 posts to (link1 link2) to achieve partial page rendering of a center content area via a menu on the left. So the links on the left would update the center content via partial page rendering using <f:ajax> or maybe <a4j:ajax> via richfaces
------------------------------------------------------
| include1 link | |
| include2 link | center content like include1.xhtml |
| include3 link | |
------------------------------------------------------
my page-layout.xhtml (master template to be used by include1.xhtml, include2.xhtml,..)looks like this.
<h:body>
<div id="top" class="top">
<ui:insert name="top">page-layout default top content</ui:insert>
</div>
<div>
<div id="left">
<h:form id="navigationFormId">
<f:ajax render=":contentForm">
<h:commandLink value="include1"
action="#{navigationBean.setPage('include1')}" />
<p></p>
<h:commandLink value="include2"
action="#{navigationBean.setPage('include2')}" />
<p></p>
<h:commandLink value="include3"
action="#{navigationBean.setPage('include3')}" />
<p></p>
</f:ajax>
</h:form>
</div>
<div id="content">
<ui:insert name="content">
<h:panelGroup id="contentPanelGroup" layout="block">
<h:form id="contentForm">
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{navigationBean.page == 'include1'}">
<ui:include src="include1.xhtml" />
</h:panelGroup>
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{navigationBean.page == 'include2'}">
<ui:include src="include2.xhtml" />
</h:panelGroup>
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{navigationBean.page == 'include3'}">
<ui:include src="include3.xhtml" />
</h:panelGroup>
</h:form>
</h:panelGroup>
</ui:insert>
</div>
</div>
</h:body>
NavigationBean.java is defined as a ViewScoped bean via CDI with #Named
public class NavigationBean implements Serializable {
public NavigationBean() {}
public String getPage() {return page;}
public void setPage(String p) {page = p;}
private String page = "include1";
}
the included pages are file like include1.xhtml and include2.xhtml and should be loaded into center content when the left menu links are clicked, here is a sample include2.xhtml
<h:body>
<ui:composition template="page-template.xhtml">
<ui:define name="content">
include2
<h:form>
form components for include2
</h:form>
</ui:define>
</ui:composition>
</h:body>
I am getting FileNotFoundException, although the stack trace does not
tell which one, but removing the
<h:panelGroup rendered=".....>
<ui:include src="..." />
</h:panelGroup>
tags removes the exception. I think this is the proper implementation to accomplish this based on 2 of BalusC posts, but just can't get it to work.
The error you are getting suggests the include...xhtml page can not be found. Where are the files located? They should be in the same directory as the page-layout.xhtml file? To simplify everything I would just test if the include works, yuo can replace this:
<h:form id="contentForm">
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{navigationBean.page == 'include1'}">
<ui:include src="include1.xhtml" />
</h:panelGroup>
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{navigationBean.page == 'include2'}">
<ui:include src="include2.xhtml" />
</h:panelGroup>
<h:panelGroup rendered="#{navigationBean.page == 'include3'}">
<ui:include src="include3.xhtml" />
</h:panelGroup>
</h:form>
with:
<h:form id="contentForm">
<ui:include src="include1.xhtml" />
</h:form>
i was able to get a design via JSF2/Ajax and richfaces4 (other implementations would be ok I assume) where a left navigation menu item, implemented via templates, is able to render the center content of a template via ajax, preventing a full page refresh, and the flicker effect it has.
my navigationmenu.xhtml code looks like this
<ui:composition>
<h:form id="navigationFormId">
<rich:collapsiblePanel id="carrierCollapsibleId" header="Links that update center content" switchType="client">
<h:commandLink id="linkId1" action="/page1" value="Update Center Content with page1">
<a4j:ajax execute="#form" render=":centerContentDiv,:centerForm" />
</h:commandLink>
<br />
<h:commandLink id="linkId2" action="/page2" value="Update Center Content with page2">
<a4j:ajax execute="#form" render=":centerContentDiv,:centerForm" />
</h:commandLink>
</rich:collapsiblePanel>
...
</h:form>
I believe the render=":centerContentDiv,:centerForm" attribute for the a4j:ajax tags can be changed to just render=":centerForm" but have not tested that. I know the both work together however. also, i tried JSF2 ajax tags with white space between the IDs and got errors, so i went to richfaces 4.x's a4j and then could use commas if no space was used.
now, in order for this to work, each pageX.xhtml file, for example page1.xhtml would need to have <h:form id="centerForm">, here is an example of page1.xhtml
<ui:composition template="/templates/uiTemplate.xhtml">
<ui:define name="center_content">
<h:form id="centerForm">
<!-- put your components in here -->
</h:form>
</ui:define>
</ui:composition>
one limitation is each view that uses the template must define a <h:form id=centerForm" ...> otherwise JSF2 will complain it can't find the render target.
my uiTemplate.xhtml file has code for the header, footer, but the pertinent part that has the navigation and center content defined is as follows
<div class="header_content">
<div id="left">
<ui:include src="navigationMenu.xhtml" />
</div>
<div id="center_content">
<!-- think this panelGroup wrapper can be -->
<!-- removed. need to test that though -->
<h:panelGroup id="centerContentDiv" layout="block">
<ui:insert name="center_content" />
</h:panelGroup>
</div>
</div>

JSF and ajax: listener of dynamically added component never tirggered

I have got a problem with my JSF application.
On a page there's a form where the user can dynamically add components to that very same form. When I use the ajax listener to add the component, it is updated in the view and also in the model. But when I try to remove the dynamiccaly added component by pressing an h:actionLink its ajax listener is never triggered.
This is my code:
<h:form rendered="#{schrijvenController.verslagenController.documentSelected}">
<p>
<span class="noLabel">
#{bundle.JongereJongere}:
</span>
<h:selectOneMenu id="jongereSelect" valueChangeListener="#{schrijvenController.selecteerJongere}" immediate="true"
value="#{schrijvenController.currentJongere.jongereID}"
title="--#{bundle.JongereSelect}--">
<f:selectItems value="#{jongereController.jongerenAsSelectItems}"/>
</h:selectOneMenu>
</p>
<h:panelGroup id="personen">
<ui:repeat value="#{schrijvenController.verslagenController.persoonItems}" var="persoon">
<div class="div_add_persoon">
<div class="div_add_persoon_left">
<span class="noLabel"> #{persoon.aanwezigheid}:</span>
<h:inputText value="#{persoon.searchTerm}"
onkeypress="if (event.keyCode == 13) { onchange(); return false; }">
<f:ajax event="keypress" render="persoonLijst" listener="#{persoon.getPersonenWhereNameLikeSelectItems}" />
</h:inputText>
<h:selectOneMenu id="persoonLijst" styleClass="fixedWitdhDropDown"
value="#{persoon.currentPersoon.persoon_id}"
title="--#{bundle.PersoonSelect}--">
<f:selectItems value="#{persoon.personenWhereNameLikeSelectItems}"/>
<f:ajax event="change" render="#form" listener="#{persoon.add}" />
</h:selectOneMenu>
</div>
<h:panelGroup layout="block" styleClass="div_add_persoon_right">
<ui:repeat value="#{persoon.personen}" var="persoonPersoon">
<h:panelGroup layout="block" styleClass="div_schrijvenPersoon">
<h:outputText value=" #{persoonPersoon.naam} #{persoonPersoon.voornaam} " />
<h:commandLink value="X" id="linkske">
<f:ajax event="click" render="#form" listener="#{persoon.delete}" />
</h:commandLink>
</h:panelGroup>
</ui:repeat>
</h:panelGroup>
</div>
</ui:repeat>
<div class="clear" />
This is a Prt Sc of my view:

If one clicks on an element from the list, it's added to the right inside a div together with a commandLink with the text "x". But when I click the "x" link nothing happens (no function is being executed). It is as if the view can't find the component. I'm using Datamodels.
I've been looking all day for a solution on the web but I couldn't find one. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I managed to solve the problem by using the following code in my view
<h:commandLink value="X">
<f:ajax render="#form" execute="#form" listener="#{persoon.delete}" />
</h:commandLink>
Seems I needed render="#form" and execute="#form"
