Why does the KendoUI Grid not rollback a delete when the options.error function is called? - kendo-ui

I have put a fiddle here that demonstrates the issue.
http://jsfiddle.net/codeowl/fmzay/1/
Just delete a record, and it should rollback the delete as I am calling options.error from inside the destroy function.
Why is it that the grid doesn't roll back?
Regards,
Scott
Markup:
<div id="KendoGrid"></div>
JS:
var _data = [
{ Users_ID: 1, Users_FullName: 'Bob Smith', Users_Role: 'Administrator' },
{ Users_ID: 2, Users_FullName: 'Barry Baker', Users_Role: 'Viewer' },
{ Users_ID: 3, Users_FullName: 'Bill Cow', Users_Role: 'Editor' },
{ Users_ID: 4, Users_FullName: 'Boris Brick', Users_Role: 'Administrator' }
],
_dataSource = new kendo.data.DataSource({
data: _data,
destroy: function (options) {
options.error(new Error('Error Deleting User'));
}
});
$('#KendoGrid').kendoGrid({
dataSource: _dataSource,
columns: [
{ field: "Users_FullName", title: "Full Name" },
{ field: "Users_Role", title: "Role", width: "130px" },
{ command: ["edit", "destroy"], title: " ", width: "180px" }
],
toolbar: ['create'],
editable: 'popup'
});

Signaling the error is not enough. Lets say that having an error on removing a record is not enough since KendoUI doesn't know if the record has actually been removed in the server and the reply is the one producing the error. So KendoUI approach is a conservative approach: You have to decide what to do and explicitly say it:
So what you should do is add an error hander function that invokes a cancelChanges in the grid.
The code would be:
_dataSource = new kendo.data.DataSource({
transport: {
read: function(options) {
options.success(_data);
console.log('Read Event Has Been Raised');
},
destroy: function (options) {
options.error(new Error('Error Deleting User'));
console.log('Destroy Event Has Been Raised');
}
},
schema: {
model: {
id: "Users_ID",
fields: {
Users_ID: { editable: false, nullable: true },
Users_FullName: { type: "string", validation: { required: true } },
Users_Role: { type: "string", validation: { required: true } }
}
}
},
error: function(a) {
$('#KendoGrid').data("kendoGrid").cancelChanges();
}
});
And the updated JSFiddle in here: http://jsfiddle.net/OnaBai/fmzay/3

The ASP.NET-MVC equivalent solution to the OnaBai answer would be:
<script type="text/javascript">
function cancelChanges(e) {
e.sender.cancelChanges();
}
</script>
#Html.Kendo().Grid<MyClass>()
.DataSource(dataSource =>
dataSource
.Ajax()
.Read(read => read.Action("Read", "MyController"))
.Destroy(destroy => destroy.Action("Destroy", "MyController"))
.Events(evt => evt.Error("cancelChanges"))
)
[...]
Please be aware that the cancelChanges event will be called upon an error on every CRUD request.

How to sync my Store when I update the bounded record using form (onUpdateClick). I'm using Extjs 7.5 (Sencha CMD)

This is my first time using a javascript framework, I would like to implement MVVM in my EXT JS application and the data is coming from my WEB API (ASP.NET FRAMEWORK).
My problem is that, I don't seem to understand how to fully use viewModel which looks up to my store. I successfully bound my ViewModel in my grid but now I don't know how to update the selected record using a form (modal) and sync my store (send update request through API)
I have a feeling that I'm doing it the wrong way. I don't know how to do this in fiddle so I'll just paste my code here.
Genre.js [Model]
Ext.define('VAM2.model.Genre', {
extend: 'VAM2.model.Base',
alias: 'model.genre',
fields: [
{name: 'GenreId', type: 'int'},
{name: 'Code', type: 'string'},
{name: 'CreatedBy', type: 'string'},
]
});
Genre.js [Store]
Ext.define('VAM2.store.Genre', {

});
GenreViewModel.js - I'm not sure if this is okay but the read is working
Ext.define('VAM2.view.genre.GenreViewModel', {

'VAM2.model.Genre'

}
}
});
View -- This is where it gets confusing. I don't know how to put the bounded data from grid to a form modal and then save and sync my store.
Ext.define('VAM2.view.genre.GenreList', {

});
A fiddle example would be great! Thank you!
Screenshot:
This is where I would like to display form modal that can sync/update my store when I modify some data.
To do store.sync() you need to set values on the record first.
Example is without ViewModel:
https://fiddle.sencha.com/#fiddle/3isg&view/editor
select: function (grid, record) {
console.log(record);
let win = Ext.create("Ext.window.Window", {
title: 'Edit',
modal: true,
autoShow: true,
width: 400,
height: 500,
controller: {},
items: [{
xtype: 'form',
reference: 'form',
fieldLabel: 'name',
items: [{
xtype: 'textfield',
name: 'name'
}]
}],
buttons: [{
text: 'cancel',
handler: function () {
win.close();
}
}, {
text: 'save',
handler: function () {
var values = this.lookupController().lookup('form').getValues();
record.set(values);
grid.getStore().sync({
scope: this,
success: function () {
win.close();
Ext.toast({
html: 'Well done',
align: 't'
});
},
failure: function () {
Ext.toast({
html: 'Problem occurred',
align: 't'
});
}
});
}
}],
listeners: {
afterrender: function () {
this.lookupController().lookup('form').loadRecord(record);
}
}
})
}

How to get field value when edit data in Kendo Ui treelist

I'm new in Kendo UI,and i have a question. Now i'm use TreeList / Editing and how to auto load value to other field when i edit value to first field ?
example:
1.serial number: 123456789
2.name : test
when i edit serial number 123456789 to first field and auto load name to second field.
To set the value of column B based on change made to a column A, you need to edit the model bound to the tree list. For this do the following:-
Handle edit event of the tree list. On this save the model to a
local variable.
Add an editor
template
to column A. On the select event set the value of model.
Below is a working code snippet:-
<div id="treelist"></div>
<script>
$(document).ready(function () {
var crudServiceBaseUrl = "https://demos.telerik.com/kendo-ui/service";
var model= null;
var employeesData=[{"EmployeeId":101,"FirstName":"Daryl","LastName":"Sweeney"},
{"EmployeeId":202,"FirstName":"Guy","LastName":"Wooten"},
{"EmployeeId":303,"FirstName":"Priscilla","LastName":"Frank"},
{"EmployeeId":404,"FirstName":"Ursula","LastName":"Holmes"},
{"EmployeeId":505,"FirstName":"Anika","LastName":"Vega"}];
var dataSource = new kendo.data.TreeListDataSource({
transport: {
read: {
url: crudServiceBaseUrl + "/EmployeeDirectory/All",
dataType: "jsonp"
},
update: {
url: crudServiceBaseUrl + "/EmployeeDirectory/Update",
dataType: "jsonp"
},
destroy: {
url: crudServiceBaseUrl + "/EmployeeDirectory/Destroy",
dataType: "jsonp"
},

return {models: kendo.stringify(options.models)};
}
}
},

model: {
id: "EmployeeId",
parentId: "ReportsTo",
fields: {
EmployeeId: { type: "number", nullable: false },
ReportsTo: { nullable: true, type: "number" },
FirstName: { validation: { required: true } },
HireDate: { type: "date" },
Phone: { type: "string" },
HireDate: { type: "date" },
BirthDate: { type: "date" },

},

}
}
});
$("#treelist").kendoTreeList({

dataBound: function (e) {
var items = e.sender.items();
for (var i = 0; i < items.length; i++) {
var dataItem = e.sender.dataItem(items[i]);
var row = $(items[i]);
if (dataItem.isNew()) {
row.find("[data-command='createchild']").hide();
}
else {
row.find("[data-command='createchild']").show();
}
}
},
edit: function(e) {
model = e.model;
},
columns: [{
field: "EmployeeId",
expandable: true,
title: "Serial Number",
width: 180,
editor: function(container, options) {
// create an input element
var input = $("<input/>");
// set its name to the field to which the column is bound ('lastName' in this case)
input.attr("name", options.field);
// append it to the container
input.appendTo(container);
// initialize a Kendo UI AutoComplete
input.kendoAutoComplete({
dataTextField: "EmployeeId",
dataSource: employeesData,
select: function(e) {
if(model !=null){
model.FirstName = e.dataItem.FirstName;
model.LastName = e.dataItem.LastName;
}
}
});
}
},
{ field: "FirstName", title: "First Name", width: 100 },
{ field: "LastName", title: "Last Name", width: 100 },

{ command: [{name: "createchild", text: "Add child"},"destroy" ], width: 240 }]
});
});
</script>
You can trigger your function when the row is being saved or when the edit field is being changed. Take a look at the list of events here and choose when exactly you want to make the changes. https://demos.telerik.com/kendo-ui/treelist/events
here is a example how to all a function when saving the changes: https://docs.telerik.com/kendo-ui/api/javascript/ui/treelist/methods/saverow
I´m not sure witch edit method you are using (inline, inCell or Popup edit mode) each method can use events like saveRow, beforeEdit...
Check all the events documentation here: https://docs.telerik.com/kendo-ui/api/javascript/ui/treelist#events

kendoui grid cell editor of dropdownlist

I created a KendoUI grid where the first column uses a custom editor. After editing, it doesn't call request of update, however if it is not using editor it will call request of update. Why?
var columns = [
{ field: 'AccountId', title: '客户名称', locked: false, template: '#= me.detail.brandName(data, \'ID\') #', editor: accountGridEditor, width: 200 },
{ field: 'BankNo', title: '付款银行', template: '#= me.detail.format(data, \'Bank\') #', attributes: { style: 'text-align: left;' }, width: 150 },
{ field: 'UnLinkedAmount', title: '未分配', template: '#= me.detail.format(data, \'UnLinkedAmount\') #', attributes: { style: 'text-align: left;' }, width: 100 },
{ command: ["edit", "destroy"], title: " ", width: "250px" }
];
var dataSource = c.dataSourceOption({
transport: {
read: { url: url.api('Finance/FundJournal') },
update: { url: url.api('Finance/FundJournal', { action: 'post' }) },
destroy: { url: url.api('Finance/FundJournal', { action: 'delete' }), type: 'delete' },
parameterMap: function (data, type) {
console.log(type);
console.log(data);
if (type === 'read') return getReadParameters();
if (type === "update") return data;
if (type === 'create') return data;
if (type === 'destroy') return { id: data.Id };
return data;
}
},
schema: {
model: {
id: "Id",
fields: {
AccountId: { editable: true, nullable: false, validation: { required: true } },
BankNo: { editable: false},
UnLinkedAmount: { editable: false }
}
}
},
filter: [{ field: 'SubType', operator: 'neq', value: 'Id' }]
});
var grid = $("#result").kendoGrid({
dataSource: dataSource,
height: 550,
columns: columns,
editable: "inline",
save:function(e){$.ajax();}
}).data('kendoGrid');
If record property is set from dropdownlist something like this:
change: function() {
options.model.Name = this.value();
options.model.dirty = true;
}
it is necessary explicitly to set that model as dirty, to say to datasource that this record was modified and need to be updated. Otherwise, you can use set().
change: function() {
options.model.set('Name',this.value());
}
That way record is automatically marked as dirty in datasource.

Set the selected text or value for a KendoDropDownList

I'm using Durandal and Kendo UI. My current problem is the edit popup event on my grid. I cannot seem to set the selected value on my dropdown.
I can debug and inspect, and I indeed do see the correct value of e.model.InstrumentName nicely populated.
How can I set the value/text of those dropdowns in edit mode ?
Here's my grid init:
positGrid = $("#positGrid").kendoGrid({
dataSource: datasource,
columnMenu: false,
{
field: "portfolioName", title: "Portfolio Name",
editor: portfolioDropDownEditor, template: "#=portfolioName#"
},
{
field: "InstrumentName",
width: "220px",
editor: instrumentsDropDownEditor, template: "#=InstrumentName#",
},
edit: function (e) {
var instrDropDown = $('#InstrumentName').data("kendoDropDownList");
var portfDropDown = $('#portfolioName').data("kendoDropDownList");
instrDropDown.list.width(350); // let's widen the INSTRUMENT dropdown list
if (!e.model.isNew()) { // set to current valuet
//instrDropDown.text(e.model.InstrumentName); // not working...
instrDropDown.select(1);
//portfDropDown.text();
}
},
filterable: true,
sortable: true,
pageable: true,
editable: "popup",
});
Here's my Editor Template for the dropdown:
function instrumentsDropDownEditor(container, options) {
// INIT INSTRUMENT DROPDOWN !
var dropDown = $('<input id="InstrumentName" name="InstrumentName">');
dropDown.appendTo(container);
dropDown.kendoDropDownList({
dataTextField: "name",
dataValueField: "id",
dataSource: {
type: "json",
transport: {
read: "/api/breeze/GetInstruments"
},
},
pageSize: 6,
select: onSelect,
change: function () { },
optionLabel: "Choose an instrument"
}).appendTo(container);
}
thanks a lot
Bob
Your editor configuration is bit unlucky for grid, anyway i have updated my ans on provided code avoiding manual selections:

Adding data into parent grid work nicely,no issue,but when i select the parent grid add new row to edit then trigger the cancel button row was deleted.
I am not able to figure out the problem.please help me.
I found the error, hope can help you.
If you did not config the dataSource: schema: model's "id" field, when click edit in another row before update or click cancel, it will delete the row.
var dataSource = new kendo.data.DataSource({
...
schema: {
model: {
id:"id", // Look here, if you did not config it, issue will happen
fields: {...
...}
}
}
...
})
I have the same issue, and I config cancel like :
...
cancel: function(e) {
this.refresh();
},
...
I don't think it's the best way, but it's working.
Hope another people can give us a better way.
after saving I call $('#grid').data('kendoGrid').dataSource.read();
that cancels the edit row and reads any changes.
Still doesn't seem to be fixed.
I'm addressing it with 'preventDefault()'. This may require explicit closing of window as a consequence.
cancel: function (e) {
// Not sure why this is needed but otherwise removes row...
e.preventDefault();
e.container.data("kendoWindow").close();
},
schema: {
model: { id: "StyleNumber" // "Any ID Field from the Fields list" ,
fields: {
Qty: { validation: { required: true } },
Unit: { validation: { required: true } },
StyleNumber: { validation: { required: true } },
Description: { validation: { required: true } }
}
}
}
This will solve your problem.
