I'm using Visual Studio Express 2012 for Window Desktop, can't create win32 project.
the windows that welcomes to the wizard has three empty bullets under "these are the current project settings". Both the cancel and the finish button do not work.
The folder for the application is created but no files inside.

I am working on a Xamarin.Forms project in Visual Studio and have recently got another laptop. I would like to be able to edit the project when using my work laptop so I searched online and found Visual Studio Online.
The problem is I don't know how to import my current project into the Visual Studio online to get it on the other laptop. I have tried watching tutorials but all others explain how to create a new project and couldn't find any tutorials online that explain it easily.
The first step is to sign up for Visual Studio Team Services and create a new project:
Make sure you select Team Foundation Version Control during this step.
Once the project is created, you can head over to Visual Studio and make sure you're connected to TFS (Team Foundation Server).
Open the Team Explorer panel if it isn't already open (you can find it in View->Team Explorer) and click "Connect"
Once you do that, a window will open that will allow you to sign into your Microsoft account that you used to create the TFS server. Once signed in, you can select your project and click "Connect"
Your project should open in the Team Explorer panel where you should then click "Configure Workspace"
Click "Advanced Options" and then change the Local Folder to point to the folder that contains the solution you want in source control.
Click okay and say no when it asks you if you want to get latest from source control.
You can now go to the "Pending Changes" page in the Team Explorer and click on "Detected XX add(s)" and then click "Promote" in the resulting dialog.
The final step is to add a comment and check in everything!
Your code is now in source control!
From here you can proceed like normal in setting up TFS on your new computer and getting your code from TFS!
Using Visual Studio Enterprise 2015 Update 3, I create a new project following these steps:
File -> New -> Project -> Templates/Visual C#/ Office/SharePoint/Apps
Choose App for Office (.NET Framework 4.5.2)
In Create app for Office window, Check Task pane and do Next
Check Excel, PowerPoint and Word and click Finish
After creating the solution, In Solution Explorer Window, Select the first project (manifest project) and look at the Properties Window.
If I click the Start Action drop down list, I can only see Chrome and Edge browsers (were installed before visual studio).
I have installed FireFox after visual studio and I'm not unable to add it to Start Action drop down list. I want to debug my Office App in FireFox as well.
How can I fix this issue?
An Office add-in running in desktop Office, which it is where it runs when you are debugging it with Visual Studio on a Windows machine, uses IE under the hood. (For more info, see what-browser-browser-engine-do-office-add-ins-use.) You can't change this. The Start Action setting has no effect. You are always using IE when you press F5. In particular, the Start Action of the manifest project is irrelevant because the manifest doesn't run or get loaded into a browser.
If you want to test the add-in in Office Online, you can sideload it, and when you run it, it will use whatever browser you used to open Office Online.
Well, I am writing an ActiveX component in Visual Studio 2010 and using MFC wizard. When I debug the solution I want to start the actual program ( it is VS 2010) that is going to use that .ocx. In VC++ 6.0, I am able to do that by following steps:
1) Click Project in menubar
2) Select settings in the drop menu
3) Select the debug tab: With Category as General I put the path of VB.exe in box for executable during debug session and in program arguments I would write the path of VB project that uses the said .ocx.
I would like to do same thing, for MFC wizard in Visual Studio 2010. How to do it?
If you right-click on the ActiveX project, select 'Properties', then under 'Configuration properties|Debugging' you can set the name of the executable to start ('Command') and its command-line arguments ('Command Arguments').
You should select the EXE of you VB host program (I am not 100% sure what is the program you need to start)
An alternative is to start the program that uses the OCX and then attach the debugger to it: select 'Debug|Attach to process...' in the main menu, and then select the process in the dialog.
In Visual Studio version 2002 and 2003 "Go To Definition" would find the selected type or member in the Object Browser. In 2005 onwards it opens a source window "generated from metadata" instead. How do I configure these newer versions to go to Object Browser? (In other words, I have the opposite problem to this one.)
Installing ReSharper makes this change, so I know it must be possible, but how do I do it without ReSharper?
As workaround you can create the following macro:

I believe what re-sharper is doing is doing some hooks on that click event with the Visual Studio SDK I do not think there is any simple menu or location that can change that setting.

Creating a VSPackage
...The VS SDK installs a few more project
templates in Visual Studio, one of
them being the Visual Studio
Integration Package (Figure 1),
located under Other Project Types >
Extensibility on the New Project
dialog box.
After this standard dialog box, the
Visual Studio Integration Package
Wizard guides you through creating the
new package project:
Select a programming language. The wizard currently supports Visual
C++ and Visual C#. You can create or
pick a key file to sign the new
package.
Supply basic VSPackage information. The wizard prompts you
for details such as the company name,
VSPackage name, version, icon,
detailed information, and minimum
Visual Studio edition (such as
Professional or Enterprise) that the
package is designed to at this step.
This information goes into the Visual
Studio splash screen and About dialog
box and is also used to request a PLK
for the package (covered later).
Select VSPackage options. A package may add three types of
functionality: Menu Command, Tool
Window, and Custom Editor.
A menu command is a command added either to the menu
at the top of Visual Studio or
to a context menu (right-click).
When the wizard finishes its job, the
VS SDK adds core elements to the
solution to support the new package.
For instance, if you selected Tool
Window as part of the functionality
for the package, the project contains
a user control where you should place
the visual controls for the window.
The project also contains files for
.NET code to handle the functionality
that you will add to the package.
A CtcComponents folder contains
pseudo-C++ files (ctc files) where you
define things like menu, groups,
buttons, etc. Fortunately, Microsoft
is phasing out CTC files and replacing
them with a friendlier, XML-based VSCT
file format (which will ship in the
SDK for Visual Studio 2008).
The wizard creates a few other files
with .NET code required for the
plumbing of the package within Visual
Studio. Some of these files contain
classes that map the C++ constants to
.NET constants and other files contain
configuration information for the
package when it’s installed.
I know it has been a long time, but it appears, at least in newer versions of Visual Studio for the VB (Basic) language, to be an setting in the options.

Place the mouse cursor on the object you want to access on the object browser. Then, use the keyboard shortcut ctrl + alt + j, which will take you directly to the Object Browser window.
Start menu in Windows 7 has a feature: a programs, pinned to the top, can show a context menu with recently used files:

Will Visual Studio 2010 be able to display also recently used Projects and Solutions?
It is possible to pin solution files to the recently used file list.
First make sure you already have Visual Studio pinned to the Start Menu.
Next, drag the Solution file on to the Start Menu so that it is pinned in the main list.
Now select the the Recently Used Files button for Visual Studio so that the list is showing.
Drag the solution file from the main list into the recently used file list.
You can now remove the solution file from the main list.
Beta 1 doesn't seem to support this yet. Its easily possible by using the new Taskbar APIs and specifically the custom categories feature. I think their main problem might be that the solution files are associated with an app called VSLauncher.exe (this small app determines what version of VS to load when you launch a SLN file).
If you want to "pin" your fav solution files to any version of VS, one option this is (I currently used this with VS 2008 and 2010 Beta 1:
Open Explorer and browse to any SLN file you want to pin.
Drag it and pin on the taskbar (it will pin to VSLauncher.exe; this is okay)
Now just repeat the steps for other SLN files.
When you click on a SLN file from the above pinned program's jumplist, another instance of VS2010/VS2008 will launch. It won't show your recent projects or solutions, but atleast it allows you to pin your fav/recent solutions manually. I think you can use this for CSProj or other project files as well.
